Back in Business… of being a crappy blogger

by SkinnyRunner on May 10, 2012

I’m finally back in business, unfortunately for you guys, after switching to a new host/server which should make the blog run a lot faster and populate quicker.

Don’t even mention the last 10 “dead” days… it was pretty frustrating and I’m sure there’s a billion more efficient ways to handle the process than what transpired by all working parties involved, but I’m telling myself it’s a patience and humility lesson: your blog isn’t your life and life actually goes on without it.  shocking.

Anyways, while I was away, I spent some time in Arizona with family (future posts coming), did some working out and running that you don’t really want to read about, and finished up my doctorate thesis entitled, “When you don’t blog everyday, you take significantly less pictures of yourself, surely a good thing.”

Some other awesome things that happened during the week:

***My friend Reese sent me a Sodastream machine just because.  I’ve been wanting one of these bad boys for a long time, but Jaybob said I’d never use it and it’d be a waste.

Yeah, I showed him who’s boss.  I’ve drank so much sparkling water in the last couple days we go through a Costco pack of TP in 24 hours.  I just bring my pillow to the bathroom and sleep in there.

Pizza No More

by SkinnyRunner on May 1, 2012

{Like I mentioned on twitter, I’m moving to a new server and host and a bunch of other technical crap today so things might be a little weird on here… like dumber than normal if you can even imagine}

Yesterday before we headed to the airport, we had to make one more quick stop: Pre’s Rock.  This is where running legend Steve Prefontaine (who ran at U of O and was from Coos Bay, OR) died in car accident.

It’s neat to see but also sad because he died so young – 24 – and under tragic circumstances: drunk driving.

There were a lot of mementos including races bibs and medals from Sunday’s race.

We thought it was only fitting to add something so Emily set out a tube of Nuun while Sarah and I took a few pictures.

Then it was time to say goodbye to PR city and head home.  Sarah was able to switch flights and leave a little earlier with me so we parted ways with 3:08 and then boarded our flight.

On many of the smaller commuter planes there’s two doors to board (why don’t big planes do this?!) and I tried to catch a picture of Sarah boarding her door, but she was too fast for me.  I think I also heard her muttering something about she “wouldn’t be caught dead on that stupid website of yours.”

Showed her who’s boss.

During our layover in Portland we listened to quite possibly the World’s Angriest Traveler who yelled multiple times and I quote, “I want to kill Alaska Airlines” and a whole bunch of other un-child friendly words.  Oh, and she was an old lady.

Anyways, I grabbed a salad for the next flight at the Riverfront Café.  I always like their salads and since I pretty much ate only pizza all weekend long, some greens were long overdue.

Sarah and I were talking how between pizza at Ragnar last weekend and pizza for 2 meals on Sunday, we both could probably survive without eating it for awhile.

Nicole, Margot, Me, and the PIZZA

I bought a BBQ grilled chicken salad with spicy ranch dressing on the side – really good with jicama, corn, tomatoes, and black beans.

It was a really fun, geeked-up-on-running weekend with these PR mamas and like I said yesterday, I was just happy to experience it with them:

We were calling this the “Mom Pose” with mom Margot and her three children.

But I was also really happy to see my little family last night when I got home to SoCal:

Oh wait, wrong picture.  That’s my nephew Button – how adorably hardcore does he look?!  Don’t cross him the wrong way bro; he will melt your heart out.

Jaybob picked me up, dropped Sarah off and took me to my happy place, Red Robin.

Unfortunately JJ had a bender while I was gone and started drinking soda again.

kidding.  That’s unsweetened iced tea.  He asked our waiter for the “mondo size” and that’s what he got.  I had a banana milkshake because it just sounded really good.

It was dang good too.

Track times two (the recap)

by SkinnyRunner on April 30, 2012

WORKOUT – Ran

outside on a nearby track

7.0 miles/61 mins

easy, post-race, BORING miles

There’s a nice local track right down the street from our rented house in Eugene so I decided to run this morning and see if track running is really as boring as it sounds.  By golly, Holmes, it is.  Reminds me why I don’t do track workouts.

EUGENE MARATHON RECAP

Eugene wasn’t even on my radar until a couple weeks ago.  I ran the race last year with my brother and was focused on Man Up Week, but then a place opened up in the house and suddenly I was registered.

The original plan was to go for a PR if my legs felt like it, but then Margot asked me if I would pace her.  I run almost all my runs alone and I’m very selfish in my running so anytime I can run with someone else and get the focus off of myself, I feel like it’s a good thing.

So I said sure thing.  I don’t think I had any superfast running in my legs anyways and there’s always another race for that.

We got up early and left the house around 6am all ready to run some big PR’s.
