Off to celebrate Texas style…

WORKOUT – Kickboxing class ~ 1 hr

I am a complete loser when it comes to trying new workouts; I haven’t taken a class in years.  So when my friend Jamie took me, I had to man up and try something new.  And it was fun!  Although I looked completely spastic I’m sure…

Tomorrow is the inaugural Dallas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.

So let’s check out some tips for beginning marathoners from Outside Magazine, courtesy of fitsugar.

  • Training to run 26.2 miles takes commitment. Elite running coach Terrance Mahon told Outside, “The more consistent you are [with your training], the easier it will be to conquer the marathon.” Keeping a training log, suggests the mag, is a great way to stick to your plan and stay on track with your training.
  • Olympic marathon bronze medalist Deena Kastor told the magazine, “You need to balance the workload with optimal rest.” So do “curb your enthusiasm” to avoid overuse injures that come with overtraining.
  • The next best thing to a personal running coach, according to Outside, is a training partner. A running buddy “keeps you accountable” and you do “learn a lot by talking to other runners.”
  • Don’t skip out on your long run, and every training plan, no matter the distance, has one long run a week. These long runs “prepare you both mentally and physically.”   Kara Goucher told the magazine that long runs are the “most important workout that you do.”

For you marathoners and half marathoners, what are some of your go-to tips??

WORKOUT – Ran outside in Dallas 1 hr 9 mins/8.1 miles

I haven’t done much running outdoors in Dallas, and I’m not sure if they changed the elevation to mimic Colorado’s since last time I’ve been here, but I was sucking air big time today.  I couldn’t catch my breath if it was speed walking.

At this rate I won’t be posting any world records in Sunday’s race.  But that’s ok because gold isn’t my color anyways… platinum, baby.

We’re staying with our friends in Plano who live about a half mile away from a nature preserve which made for a fabulous outdoor treadmill.

*fake running*

What’s your favorite outdoorsy race or place to run?

I’d probably say the Birch Bay Marathon up in Western Washington that I ran last month.

Ya’ll we’re in the Houston Airport.

I can tell we’re in Texas because…

And that’s just the food in the airport!

God bless Texas and all their tasty food.  (I pulled all these pics from google images; we didn’t actually eat at all of them.  bummer, I know)

You want to hear a story??

At LAX waiting for our flight…  Sitting near a Cinnabon’s store….

Smells sooo good…  husband bought one… Didn’t take a single bite… The End.

sad story, huh.

If you want to save a couple bucks and make one at home, here’s a recipe called “Clone of the Cinnabon”

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup margarine, melted
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start.
  2. After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Roll dough into a 16×21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  4. Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving.

Ok maybe that story wasn’t so sad after all…
What’s your favorite airport food?
I’d probably say Cinnabon’s; good thing I ate a huge breakfast or I’d be tearing that joint up.

WORKOUT - Bike ~ 60 mins

I don’t know how Lance does it because riding a bike for an hour is kinda hard.  And I think the Tour de France might even be hillier than the gym floor I was riding on.  and longer than an hour

I got through it because I pictured myself looking good like Pink (out riding with her husband Carey Hart) in her pink outfit:

Or at least this pink outfit….

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have to go pack all this now.  in a crappy old duffel bag with safety pins.  What can I say, I travel in style.
Or at least comfort…
Channeling the 80’s, wet hair, and crappy photography all in one, I just knew today’d be a winner.
Flashdance, here I come!
Or at least Dallas…
Because I’m procrastinating and don’t want to pack for our trip to Dallas tomorrow, here’s some CELEBRICIZING:
AnnaLynne McCord was at the first annual Triathlon For Life, to benefit San Jorge Children’s Foundation.
from here
Kelly Bensimon was out jogging the streets of New York.
from here
Now let’s play a game: If you had to have one of their bods, which would you pick??
WORKOUT - Ran at DP Harbor 1 hr 32 mins/11.6 miles
This run felt really good, I don’t even know why but I think I’m about ready for a PR this weekend.  Porfa please??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I came home and decided to make a smoothie with my bombastic Margaritaville machine.

Vitamix, go on and grind walnuts and cinder blocks all you want, I can make kick bootay margaritas. Vita what?!?

Because you’re dying to know what’s in it, I’ll tell you:

~1 banana

~1/4 avocado

~1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder

~1/2 cup 0% Fage

~1 cup lite vanilla soy milk

~2 T flaxseeds

~3 cups spinach

~cinnamon and splenda

It made 2 large cups.  I even calculated out the nutritionals for the whole thing:

445 calories, 15 grams of fat, 35 grams of protein

Ok I feel way too healthy now and need to go do something like this:

While in Santa Barbara my little babysitting buddy and I went to the SB Zoo.  twice.

Pretty bird, pretty bird.

Although it looks dead, this condor is just sleeping.  Or at least that’s the story I was telling…

Dad, that is a pheasant.  Not a North Dakota pheasant…

I took this picture in the spiders/snakes exhibit area that doubles as the man cave Jaybeezy wants in our next house.

More pretties:

That’s me and Jimjim in aviary form.  love birds.  or fighting blue parrots, whatever.

“I try to work out as much as I can.  But the biggest change in my body came when I stopped eating processed food.  I don’t eat fast food or anything that’s packaged or loaded with salt and preservatives. I eat as many organic and fresh foods as possible.  I don’t cut out cheese, I don’t cut out carbs, I just eat fresh foods.”

My set designer just bought these white leather chairs for our dining table from Marshalls.  I love the studs in them. They say, “We are so rock ‘n’ roll even though we’re eating fois gras and creme brulee with proper Emily Post etiquette.”

My ma bought me the Easter decorations, but after seeing the picture, we both decided that we should have bought a couple more things to jazz up the table a little more.

Do you have any spring decorations up yet?  Do you decorate for each holiday?

I love to put out whatever little things I have, which isn’t a lot but still fun.  I don’t think Jaybob is as big a fan, but as long as he can stuff his mouth with Reese’s peanut butter Christmas trees, Valentines hearts, Halloween pumpkins, Easter eggs, and whatever other shapes they make, he’s good.

I’m off to run…

I get race envy. There, I said it.  I see someone run a fabulous running event, and I turn into a giant monster of green jealousy.

This happened with the Disney World Princess Half Marathon that took place this past weekend.

So instead of channeling all my envious rage into hating everyone who ran it, (you all looked like beautiful princesses by the way.  and i hate you) I did the next best thing:

I signed up for the Disneyland Half Marathon on September 5, 2010.

Even though Disneyland was started first, we all know Disneyland is like the cheaper, uglier step sister to Disney World…  But, it will still be a fun race.

Made even sweeter by this:  use the coupon code DLTS951 for $20 off registration.  It just worked for me, so hopefully it works for you because this race is pricey, $125.

Now what sort of clothing goes well with green???
