Hello from Arizona!
{I took the weekend off from blogging, but if you just can’t live without me (ahem, Mom), I update the Big F, the Big T, and the Big I more often.}
On Friday I flew out of the little Long Beach airport to surprise my mom in Phoenix for a visit.
The airport’s been remodeled and is really nice now, so nice that I’m going to set up an office and just work there every day. I’m thinking Tom Hanks in Terminal but slightly more sexy.
Yesterday we went golfing because that is what you do when you’re old and in Phoenix. Well, my parents golfed and I basically jogged/walked the course since we had one golf cart and a pushcart. That’s what you do when you’re a runner and not a golfer, right? Please tell me someone else has run a golf course before.
My dad figured it was around 4 miles total? Good thing I had sustenance so I wouldn’t hit a wall…
And the appropriate foot wear:
Next time I’m going to bring my Garmin and see how far it is, fo real. nerd alert.
{Instagram pic of me and my ma. Why is driving in a golf cart so much fun?!}
Remember when I went to the Ryder Cup last fall with American Express and GLAM? I bought my family little souvenirs, and my mom sported her golf towel today:

I would take the Garmin out on the course too, I completely understand.
Ugg! Another Pro Compression sale?! I can only hide how many pairs I’ve purchased from my husband for so long. He is going to find my stash at some point, and chances are it will be a deal breaker to our marriage. What’s a girl to do?!?!
I feel the SAME way! I’ve bought four pairs in the past 2 weeks… oops
Super jealous of your trip to Phoenix! So gorgeous there.
I was basically caught in the rain most of the weekend, not so cool. And clearly not as exciting as your weekend away;) I could use some sun about now.
That sounds like such a fun trip! I definitely entered into the ProCompression giveaway! I have one pair and I love them for after running but sometimes during running I feel like my calves are super tight when I wear them. Do you ever feel like that or does wearing them make the runs better for you?
i havent noticed them being super tight while i run, but i dont think i notice a difference in my running wear them. i definitely do with recovery though.
Ahhhhh now I have to go buy another pair of Pro Compression socks to enter the giveaway…I am very rapidly approaching double-digit pairs of their marathon socks and LOVE THEM ALL! But since the calf sleeves are on sale too, I might venture into uncharted (for me) territory with a pair of those.
I have definitely walked/run a golf course before. My dad and grandpa will get a cart, and I’ll carry my clubs (or put them on the cart) and walk. It’s such a great way to enjoy the grass and sunshine.
My mom has done an organized pre-race warmup where you, with your team, try to be the first ones off the course but you have to finish (scramble style, so you only have to get one ball per hole in). Sounds super fun
I am ready for some flip-flop weather!
I did an 8 mile run on Saturday & then an easy run on Sunday. I also had the most delicious brick oven pizza. I would’ve enjoyed a little warmth & sunshine though!
I ran the Phoenix Half this past weekend. I thought I was having a crappy race, but ended up PRing and missing sub-2 by 15 seconds. Ugh. Perhaps I shouldn’t have drank the beer that was being handed out at mile 11……
This weekend, my brother got married in Michigan, so we spent the weekend battling the cold and snow. Not so different from CT, actually. It was a lot of fun, though.
Pro Compression are always doing some amazing sales and deals. The free shipping is a HUGE deal, especially if you’re not from the states!
How nice of you to surprise your mom!! Sweet!
I was useless all week since I had the flu!
hope you feel better!
Have so much fun in Phoenix with your parents! I bet it’s much nicer and warmer there than it is here in NC!
I ran a 5K this weekend and had a PR yay!
Nothing beats fam time. I didn’t get the SOM but I will def be snatching up some regular marathon socks now and try to win some goods
I was in Phoenix over the weekend and it was lovely. Now I’m back in Antartica (UT) where we have sheets of ice and the sun doesn’t shine. Lame!
Have fun.
I ran the Little Rock Marathon yesterday. Today, I am sporting the nearly 3 pound medal. Yes, 2 pound 12 ounces of pure awesomeness!
congrats!! that is a serious medal.
First of all, I totally thought you RAN from LB to AZ. Just because that’s something you could prob actually do. Secondly, agree – the LB airport is adorable. Third, I can’t believe ProCompression hasn’t created a SKINNYRUNNER promo code. Someone needs to get on that
And finally, GOLF!!! My friends and I used to go w/ my dad and basically play field hockey with our putters on the putting green while my dad shot a few holes. The club wasn’t too happy with us.
I volunteered for 4 hours at a race on Saturday, and had a slow 11-mile run on Sunday. It was a nice and relaxing weekend.
ooh, just signed up on their mailing list.
this weekend was a lot of play and no work! which seems fun…until today. haha.
My dad was in the newspaper a while back for playing “Speed Golf”. Instead of driving a golf cart or walking from hole to hole he runs. He’s an avid runner and golfer so why not join the two?!
sweet! thats what i want to do!
Looks fun!
I spent my weekend “spring cleaning” (even though today we are expected to get 12″ of fresh snow) with a 1 year old bobbing around. I hauled out 4 large garbage bags of recycling/trash but with the 1 year old’s help, you can’t tell I cleaned at all!
I just signed up for their email.
And I’ve totally ran a golf course on the cart paths. We were on vacation and staying right next to a golf resort. My sis-in-law figured if was safer to run on the course than on the crazy tourist traffic packed roads.
I love driving in golf carts, too. I’m heading to Tucson next week to see my dad and can’t wait to take my kids out in the golf cart. So much fun. I also can’t wait to be in some warmer weather!
i signed up for the mailing list! and got in a nice, easy 15 miler
I signed up on their email list
Easy six miles on Saturday and the Seattle Hot Chocolate 15K on Sunday. It was freezing and the hot chocolate was delicious after. Super fun race though! I’m already on ProCompression mailing list (at least I get the emails already)!
I don’t know why but I can not justifying spending so much money on socks!! Every one seems to love them but the idea of parting with $50 (or $30ish) with the code still is mind blowing to me… If only I weren’t cheap!
yeah, CEP are $60 plus shipping!
I got an email today from Active Gearup about a sale on SL3S compression socks.
They’re a little less expensive (around $22) than Pro Compression, but I’m not sure how the quality compares.
I completely agree with you about spending so much on one pair of socks!
This weekend consisted of: bronchial sickness, laying in bed, and watching two seasons of Downtown Abbey. Don’t judge
signed up!
Wasn’t it gorgeous in Phoenix this weekend? We went to the Coyotes hockey game. It was colder inside than out!
The Kidless Kronicles
I got in a 12 mile long run and 3 speedy miles. Also tried a pilates reformer class for the first time and loved it!
My BF was recently on a layover at Long Beach Airport and was talking about how nice it was. Wish NYC airports could be nicer — or have an outdoor area with guaranteed sun!
I used to work at a golf course and would run the front when my last tee time was at the back 9. It was about 2 miles and a beautiful, paved run!
Well, that makes pair #5 of pro compression socks for me. They are my favorite marathon sock (during the race and during the post-run recovery) and I wear them whenever I fly, so I am justifying my ever growing collection..
I ran the Phoenix Marathon over the weekend (I live in AZ). Super fast course, great organization. I PR’d by ~3 minutes and I am NOT in PR shape, so it was a great day. You should run it next year
I ran my first 15 miler! ahh! It was great, feeling good today=)
Hey guys! Want to help raise awareness for human trafficking?
There is a race April 20, 2013 at Maryland Farms in Brentwood Tennessee at 7 a.m. It is called Chik-Fil-A presents Race for Oneless. For more information on the race and on the organization you can go to Onelessministries.org and onelessministries.org/raceforoneless
Thanks for the coupon code. I missed them on the Active.com deals page the other day, and now I get the color I wanted…do these marathon socks also work for long-run recovery?
Thats exactly what they’re best for: recovery.
thanks again! Just ordered an orange pair!
Have fun here in PHX!! There’s a fun (but short) little 17k called Kiss Me I’m Irish up in Glendale on Saturday if you’re around still! Chocolate kisses, Nothing Bundt cakes, and beer for rewards!
Better than a medal right??
Hey there! I have become a loyal follower in the past few months. I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to sign up and train for my first full marathon this year!
I don’t think I will ever run as fast as you, but you’re spunk and general awesomeness are very inspiring!
Thanks!
Thank you. Thats awesome about your marathon!
I’ve run a golf course! It was for conditioning for golf team
(Yes… we conditioned) Your dad is probably petty close with his 4 mile guestimate!
WOOT! Thanks for the ProCompression announcement! I ordered another pair – love them!! P.S. Unless I get an email otherwise, I think they may have restocked because I was able to order a pair of Shamrock!
Nice!
My dad lives in McCormick Ranch and I’ve definitely been the weirdo jogging around the golf courses down there haha.
I was just telling my Hubby yesterday that I needed another pair of compression socks and that he could get me a pair for Mother’s Day… Guess Mother’s Day is coming early, haha!!!
After teaching 3 Xtend Barre classes, I was curled up in bed with a fever all weekend
.
Have a wonderful time with your mom & dad!!
I love Phoenix! It is grey and dull on the east coast as we wait for a snow storm. Soak up the sun for me!
I ran the course for my upcoming half marathon yesterday and somehow injured my foot. After consulting Dr. Google, I’ve narrowed it down to cuboid syndrome or pelonear tendonitis. Sucks either way. Wish we had some sunny weather around here. During my run yesterday it was snowing, windy and 19 degrees. That sucked too!
This weekend I competed in an Olympic distance triathlon in La Quinta, CA. I shaved 15 min off my 1st tri and it was my first open water swim tri, 2nd tri ever. I looked like a total newbie in my surfing wetsuit.
great job!
I’m so happy you surprised your ma!! I bet you made her weekend. I used to drive the golf cart at a golf course and secretly wanted to run the course. Thanks for making me feel a little less nerdy. Enjoy your time with your family.
I would never run a golf course, because driving the cart around is just TOO fun!
LUV your zebra print bag in your airport pic!!! Where is it from?
thanks, its from kate spade.
I did a half marathon with Rocket Racing in Santa Monica. I liked the low key nature of the race. I somehow screwed up the turn around point and was only at 12 miles when I got to the finish so I shouted as I ran past that I had a little more to do. Oops. Trusted the Garmin to get me the full 13.1.
Ill be wearing the Shamrocks in LA too. Would be fun to get a pic with you, RER, and Stuft mama all in our St Pattys day socks!
With all the PC promos I’ve collected almost every color
Thosesocks are awesome, but I could never justify spending that kind of money on them.
I live near Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place WA. They have a public trail that runs around the golf course that I love to run. Has everything you need: hills, flat, mountain and water views and multiple bathrooms and drinking fountains. Can’t ask for more!
I would bring the garmin too. I love the mix of snacks..Jr. Mints are on of my favs.
I was in the wind tunnel for seven minutes and then I did a skydive on Sunday (should have done more, but oh well). My arms and chest hurt hurt hurt. Ouch!
Big run tonight.
I always run on the golf course. I think my husband is embarrassed when we play because instead of riding the cart, I just carry a club (doesn’t really matter which one the way I play) so that I can hit the ball – run – hit….More fun and activity that way!
BTW – I just tried my first pair of compression socks. I like the way the feel except at the very top – do they cut into your leg at the top?
Long run with a buddy on Saturday followed by a rather-be-forgotten race on Sunday.
Skiing @ Morzine!!!
I just so happened to run my very first Half (well last weekend)! I did the Princess Half at Disney, and it was ungodly humid! I think it was between 95-100% humidity and 70 degrees. But I finished! Also, I used to run/walk golf courses since my father-in-law owns a few. Just be careful, people try to walk on ours at all times (since we’re in a community) without realizing it’s private property and if they get hit by a ball, the course is not liable. You wouldn’t believe how many phone calls we would get from people trying to sue b/c they got hit.
congrats on your first half!!
wow, thats cray about getting hit with golf balls.
Time to jump on the PRO Compression bandwagon. I’m about to purchase my first pair.
I just bought my first pair of calf sleeves this week, woot! I love Pro Compression socks, have used them in my first two half marathons this winter. And I’m signed up for the newsletter! Excited for this giveaway!
I signed up for newsletter, now debating on which color socks (I already have a pair of sleeves)
i just purchased the purple marathon socks – i’m already in love with my marathon sleeves that i got for christmas!
