Long Beach to Phoenix

Hello from Arizona!

{I took the weekend off from blogging, but if you just can’t live without me (ahem, Mom), I update the Big F, the Big T, and the Big I more often.}

On Friday I flew out of the little Long Beach airport to surprise my mom in Phoenix for a visit.

The airport’s been remodeled and is really nice now, so nice that I’m going to set up an office and just work there every day.  I’m thinking Tom Hanks in Terminal but slightly more sexy.

Yesterday we went golfing because that is what you do when you’re old and in Phoenix.  Well, my parents golfed and I basically jogged/walked the course since we had one golf cart and a pushcart.  That’s what you do when you’re a runner and not a golfer, right?  Please tell me someone else has run a golf course before.

My dad figured it was around 4 miles total?  Good thing I had sustenance so I wouldn’t hit a wall…

And the appropriate foot wear:

Next time I’m going to bring my Garmin and see how far it is, fo real.  nerd alert.

{Instagram pic of me and my ma.  Why is driving in a golf cart so much fun?!}

Remember when I went to the Ryder Cup last fall with American Express and GLAM?  I bought my family little souvenirs, and my mom sported her golf towel today:

I would take the Garmin out on the course too, I completely understand. :)

Ugg! Another Pro Compression sale?! I can only hide how many pairs I’ve purchased from my husband for so long. He is going to find my stash at some point, and chances are it will be a deal breaker to our marriage. What’s a girl to do?!?!

I feel the SAME way! I’ve bought four pairs in the past 2 weeks… oops :)

Super jealous of your trip to Phoenix! So gorgeous there.
I was basically caught in the rain most of the weekend, not so cool. And clearly not as exciting as your weekend away;) I could use some sun about now.

Christina March 4, 2013 at 8:15 am

That sounds like such a fun trip! I definitely entered into the ProCompression giveaway! I have one pair and I love them for after running but sometimes during running I feel like my calves are super tight when I wear them. Do you ever feel like that or does wearing them make the runs better for you?

Reply

SkinnyRunner March 4, 2013 at 10:54 am

i havent noticed them being super tight while i run, but i dont think i notice a difference in my running wear them. i definitely do with recovery though.

Kailin @ Logs and Thoughts March 4, 2013 at 8:18 am

Ahhhhh now I have to go buy another pair of Pro Compression socks to enter the giveaway…I am very rapidly approaching double-digit pairs of their marathon socks and LOVE THEM ALL! But since the calf sleeves are on sale too, I might venture into uncharted (for me) territory with a pair of those.

I have definitely walked/run a golf course before. My dad and grandpa will get a cart, and I’ll carry my clubs (or put them on the cart) and walk. It’s such a great way to enjoy the grass and sunshine.

My mom has done an organized pre-race warmup where you, with your team, try to be the first ones off the course but you have to finish (scramble style, so you only have to get one ball per hole in). Sounds super fun :-)

I did an 8 mile run on Saturday & then an easy run on Sunday. I also had the most delicious brick oven pizza. I would’ve enjoyed a little warmth & sunshine though!

I ran the Phoenix Half this past weekend. I thought I was having a crappy race, but ended up PRing and missing sub-2 by 15 seconds. Ugh. Perhaps I shouldn’t have drank the beer that was being handed out at mile 11……

This weekend, my brother got married in Michigan, so we spent the weekend battling the cold and snow. Not so different from CT, actually. It was a lot of fun, though.

How nice of you to surprise your mom!! Sweet!

I was useless all week since I had the flu!

I ran a 5K this weekend and had a PR yay!

I was in Phoenix over the weekend and it was lovely. Now I’m back in Antartica (UT) where we have sheets of ice and the sun doesn’t shine. Lame!

Have fun.

First of all, I totally thought you RAN from LB to AZ. Just because that’s something you could prob actually do. Secondly, agree – the LB airport is adorable. Third, I can’t believe ProCompression hasn’t created a SKINNYRUNNER promo code. Someone needs to get on that ;-) And finally, GOLF!!! My friends and I used to go w/ my dad and basically play field hockey with our putters on the putting green while my dad shot a few holes. The club wasn’t too happy with us.

My dad was in the newspaper a while back for playing “Speed Golf”. Instead of driving a golf cart or walking from hole to hole he runs. He’s an avid runner and golfer so why not join the two?! :)

Looks fun!

I spent my weekend “spring cleaning” (even though today we are expected to get 12″ of fresh snow) with a 1 year old bobbing around. I hauled out 4 large garbage bags of recycling/trash but with the 1 year old’s help, you can’t tell I cleaned at all! ;)

Paige March 4, 2013 at 9:45 am

I just signed up for their email.

And I’ve totally ran a golf course on the cart paths. We were on vacation and staying right next to a golf resort. My sis-in-law figured if was safer to run on the course than on the crazy tourist traffic packed roads.

Beth @ Miles and Trials March 4, 2013 at 9:46 am

I love driving in golf carts, too. I’m heading to Tucson next week to see my dad and can’t wait to take my kids out in the golf cart. So much fun. I also can’t wait to be in some warmer weather!

I don’t know why but I can not justifying spending so much money on socks!! Every one seems to love them but the idea of parting with $50 (or $30ish) with the code still is mind blowing to me… If only I weren’t cheap!

Reply

I got an email today from Active Gearup about a sale on SL3S compression socks.

They’re a little less expensive (around $22) than Pro Compression, but I’m not sure how the quality compares.

I completely agree with you about spending so much on one pair of socks!

I got in a 12 mile long run and 3 speedy miles. Also tried a pilates reformer class for the first time and loved it!

My BF was recently on a layover at Long Beach Airport and was talking about how nice it was. Wish NYC airports could be nicer — or have an outdoor area with guaranteed sun!

I used to work at a golf course and would run the front when my last tee time was at the back 9. It was about 2 miles and a beautiful, paved run!

Ashley March 4, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Well, that makes pair #5 of pro compression socks for me. They are my favorite marathon sock (during the race and during the post-run recovery) and I wear them whenever I fly, so I am justifying my ever growing collection..

I ran the Phoenix Marathon over the weekend (I live in AZ). Super fast course, great organization. I PR’d by ~3 minutes and I am NOT in PR shape, so it was a great day. You should run it next year

I ran the course for my upcoming half marathon yesterday and somehow injured my foot. After consulting Dr. Google, I’ve narrowed it down to cuboid syndrome or pelonear tendonitis. Sucks either way. Wish we had some sunny weather around here. During my run yesterday it was snowing, windy and 19 degrees. That sucked too!

I did a half marathon with Rocket Racing in Santa Monica. I liked the low key nature of the race. I somehow screwed up the turn around point and was only at 12 miles when I got to the finish so I shouted as I ran past that I had a little more to do. Oops. Trusted the Garmin to get me the full 13.1.
With all the PC promos I’ve collected almost every color :) Ill be wearing the Shamrocks in LA too. Would be fun to get a pic with you, RER, and Stuft mama all in our St Pattys day socks!

I always run on the golf course. I think my husband is embarrassed when we play because instead of riding the cart, I just carry a club (doesn’t really matter which one the way I play) so that I can hit the ball – run – hit….More fun and activity that way!

BTW – I just tried my first pair of compression socks. I like the way the feel except at the very top – do they cut into your leg at the top?

I just so happened to run my very first Half (well last weekend)! I did the Princess Half at Disney, and it was ungodly humid! I think it was between 95-100% humidity and 70 degrees. But I finished! Also, I used to run/walk golf courses since my father-in-law owns a few. Just be careful, people try to walk on ours at all times (since we’re in a community) without realizing it’s private property and if they get hit by a ball, the course is not liable. You wouldn’t believe how many phone calls we would get from people trying to sue b/c they got hit.
