Santa Barbara and a giveaway – CLOSED

by SkinnyRunner on February 4, 2013

WORKOUT -

Ran outside in Santa Barbara -

8.0 miles/1:11

very relaxed pace

1.5 mile walk on the beach talking to my mom on the phone

Yesterday after the race I rushed home, got ready and packed, went to a Super Bowl party, and then drove up to Santa Barbara to work for a few days.  Busy day.

So this morning I did a really relaxed shake out run in SB: I stopped to take pics and even stopped twice to answer phone calls.  nice and easy.

You’re disgusting, Santa Barbara.  And you call yourself beautiful?!  Have some self-respect and start taking care of yourself.

JAYBIRD BLUEBUDS X GIVEAWAY

Awhile ago Jaybird sent me their new Blue Buds X headphones: they’re wireless, Bluetooth-enabled and are the official training headphone of the US Triathlon.

6917118_sa

(Don’t they look like a snake in this picture?!)

I liked the sleek packaging: at first I thought I had ordered a book and forgot about it.

001 (428x356)003 (628x336)004 (360x429)

They come with a nice little magnetic case to store the headphones in; hopefully this will keep me from wasting 10 minutes every day at the gym untangling headphone wires.

Since they’re wireless, they use Bluetooth and are compatible with any Bluetooth enable device.  Cool feature, but at first this made me nervous.  How the heck am I going to set this thing up?!  I barely just got my first smartphone!  True story: my husband puts all music on my phone and ipod when I had one.  I don’t even know how to.

But it’s super easy to set up, even for a technodweeb like me.  All you have to do is turn on your Bluetooth and your phone will search and connect to the BlueBuds.  There’s also voice prompts to help.

20130201_170743 (800x599)

The headphones can go under your ears or over so getting a secure fit is important which is why three different size ear cushions are included.  (I used the smallest ones and my husband uses the medium ones.)

ear-with-bud20130201_172219 (563x800)

{Under and Over}

The sound quality on these bad boys is awesome; I mean, these are not cheap headphones so you can’t expect anything but killer quality, and they deliver.

Another cool feature is the Signal Plus which allows you to have your phone anywhere on your body or even in your bag at the gym near your treadmill.  Kinda sweet that your phone doesn’t have to be glued next to your ear for them to work.

20130201_171421 (800x465)

Even though the headphones are tiny and really light, they still have an 8 hour battery life and can plug into a USB to recharge.

20130201_172415 (800x544)

The last thing that I REALLY like about the BlueBuds X is the lifetime warranty against sweat:

2013-02-04_1301

I have another pair of really swanky headphones, but they’re so nice that I don’t even want to sweat in them so I don’t really ever use them.  With these, if somehow your sweatfest burns ‘em up, you’re covered.

20130201_172437 (598x800)

I’ve been wearing my BlueBuds X for walks (talking with my mom on the phone hands free!) and on treadmill runs, but I didn’t want to review them until I had tried them in the big daddy, the marathon.

I wore them yesterday in a warm, sweaty race and had zero problems.  I turned on my music at mile 16 and listened to it until right before mile 26 when I yanked one headphone out to yell at Matt to run with me.

They stayed in place perfectly, connected and didn’t lose signal or skip.

20130203_095356

The only downside to these is the price: they retail for $169.95.  But if you’re really passionate about music and always listen to it when you work out (like a lot of people do) or on your commute, etc, it definitely can be worth it.  I mean, yeah, they’re pricey, but they’re amaze quality and have gotten great reviews from multiple consumer research sites.

If you want to check a pair out, Jaybird has offered the code SR20 for 20% off in their online store until Feb 11.

And I have one pair to randomly give away to one of you music lovin’ fools.

To enter to win a brand new pair of Jaybird BlueBuds X headphones, tell me

What do you listen to while working out?

A specific band or genre of music, audio books, podcasts?

For an additional entry for each, you can:

*Like Jaybird on Facebook

*Follow JaybirdSport on twitter

*Follow JaybirdSport on Instagram

*Follow JaybirdSport on Pinterest

Leave a comment for each one, please.  Also, if you tweet, blog, Facebook about the giveaway, you can get an extra entry as well.  Lots of ways to enter!

If you don’t believe me, I don’t blame you check out Janae’s review of the BlueBuds X (she always has great music playlists on her blog) and Tina’s.

Giveaway ends Friday 2/8 at 9am PST.  official rules.

Right now I’m listening to all sorts of 90′s music on Spotify. Haha!

I’m a big fan of the random shuffle. I have such an odd bird mix on iTunes and I live the randomness that comes with a shuffle playlist.

Reply

Mona February 4, 2013 at 4:21 pm

I often have my kids make my running playlist – I have four kids so it definitely makes for some interesting playlists!

Marisa February 4, 2013 at 4:21 pm

Anything with a good beat that gets me into a quick cadence will do the trick. (Gangnam Style, anyone? Though instrumental only, of course.) Lately I’ve been thinking maybe I’ll download some books to listen to on the weekends to help keep those long slow runs SLOW…
Thanks for doing this giveaway!

My favorite music to listen to while running is lots o’ music that I would never listen to otherwise…club stuff (JLo, Black Eyed Peas), tween crap…don’t tell anyone (J Beiber…yes, yes I do, Taylor Swift). I think I’ve got some kid rock, G n R…just needs to have a good beat! Love your blog! I read it every day! Congrats on your most recent marathon!

I like listening to podcasts during treadmill runs and music that my friend Ed Meade blends into mixes for my outdoor runs. I do have a Running Music mix on my iPhone, but I’m more apt to pick the blend because it has a steady beat. He does a lot of pop and hip hop, which is nice and energizing.

I listen to almost anything with a good beat on my phone/iPod on shuffle. My go-to last push end song has been sandstorm by Darude forever. I have no idea why because it’s the only thing I listen to by Darude and the only thing I listen to without words.

What I listen to depends on my mood.. today it was Justin Timberlake and anything upbeat.. but sometimes I like to slow it down and listen to some European moody rock.. weird I know. It all depends if my earbuds STAY IN MY EARS!

I also liked these cool kids on fb.. I heart them already. :)

I usually listen to my “fav” playlist which is anything usually that I just downloaded because I get sick of my music pretty quick :) It has anything and everything on there. Sometimes on really long runs if I’m tired of my music I’ll listen to books on tape. Sometimes I get distracted and end up having to play back though so I have to make sure to pay attention lol.

I mostly listen to audiobooks during my running workouts, but I switch to music during the last 20 minutes or so to give me the extra kick. Right now I’m listening to “Fall of Giants” by Ken Follett – nice and long, and the plot keeps me coming back for more. During races, it’s all music all the time!

I listen to books on tape and music when running. Audiobooks help me with the pace and music makes it exciting when actually running a race. Sweet headphones! This is even more exciting than using built in headphones in my ski helmet!

I never win these things, but what the heck! I listen to a lot of running podcasts, Runners Academy, Marathon Training Academy, etc. I recently got a new phone and can watch Netflix on it so that has been helping my trudge along on my treadmill runs. As I was untangling my headphones this morning I was reminded to enter this contest as soon as I get home LOL! Here is to nothing!

Music really drives my running and the environment or mood I am in as well as the weather drives my music choice. If I am in the gym on the treadmill, I typically will listen to hip-hop, pop, dubstep, or house. I like to give my playlist’s silly names that match there music type, for example “26.2 Yo!”. If I am outside on a cold wintery day, I might listen to something more mellow like coldplay, muse, jack johnson… I call this list”Zen Running”. If it is a warm day outdoors, I usually will just hit shuffle on my Iphone and get the best of all worlds!

I’m pretty sure my playlists are different than the norm. I enjoy listing to hardcore metal when I run. The fast tempo and aggression gets me going. Although I do randomly add a few songs from my daughters’ pop playlists. A well placed Lady Gaga or Black Eyed Peas song can do wonders for performance!

Definitely music, when I run. Pitbull, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga are on my workout playlist, but I also like to listen to different stuff (with a good beat) like Irish (though I’m not Irish) “The Galway Girl”, “If I should Fall from Grace”, “I’m shipping Off to Boston”, and my favorite running song right now is “Nah Neh Nah” because it is fun, and because my 5 year old loves to dance to it and when it comes on, I can’t help but think of his dance moves and smile…. no matter how sweaty and tired I may be.

My playlists are always 50% hip hop and 50% country. The hip hop gets me going, and then the country is for singing along to in the late miles of a marathon, making everyone think I’m insane.

Reply

I listen to Teach Me How to Dougie station on Pandora. Which is really strange coming from a girl who usually listens to nothing but country. But country songs are sometimes too depressing to run to!
