Great running info from people that aren’t me

by SkinnyRunner on January 30, 2013

WORKOUT -

Xtend barre -

60 mins

Ran outside -

10.2 miles/1:28

easy pace, hills

I took another 6am barre class from Bri: today we did clockwork lunges, lunges with bicep curls, lunges with shoulder presses, lunges with backflips, lunges with 360s and 1080s, more lunges and more lunges.

Then me and my man calves ran a slower 10 miles outside near my house.

It’s hard being this stylish all the time.

LINK LOVE

***I tweeted this already, but if you’re looking for some running motivation, check out my friend Jacqueline’s post on it.  Her first tip is to sign up for a race – MY FAVORITE.

If you’re local in Southern California, check out race place.  If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, check out race center.  I always look at Marathon Guide to lust over marathons that I want to run, and there’s also Half Marathons which is similar.

Just today I signed up for the LA Marathon and the Eugene Marathon – not new races for me, but they’ll be fun!

***I’m obv MFL FTD as we all know.  Some people have asked me about the differences between the new Wave Rider 16s and the older 15s.  The Miz has had some missteps with some of the Wave Rider line (I didn’t like the 14s), and this is a great post from Running Escapades about the differences between the two shoes.

***Janae has a great post on “10 things I wish I knew as a new runner”.  Good info, check it out!

“Not every race is going to be a PR…”  My first three marathons were all PRs: 3:40, 3:29, 3:23 and then I crashed on the 4th one (expecting another PR) and I CRASHED AND BURNED on the 5th one.  ouch.  I still have scars from that one.

You have any great posts/reads you want to link to?  Any love to give?

You’ve been so consistent with the barre classes, that’s great!

Just checked out Jacqueline’s post and it is GREAT.
She mentions it, and I totally agree – the way I get myself out the door when I have zero motivation is to read blogs. there’s nothing better than reading about someone’s long run, swim, bike to get yourself motivated!

I have my first race that is over 6 miles in April! I’m so excited. I’m running the Capitol 10k here in Austin Texas followed by the Austin 10/20 the next weekend. That’s right. 10 miles/20 bands. I can’t believe I will be doing my first race over 6.2 miles in a couple of months. You should definitely check out my progress if you already havent done so…

I’m running LA too – I signed up a while ago, then read your two reviews of the race and had second thoughts… but the deed had been done. Hope it’s going to be a good race and it won’t RAIN!

On getting psyched up to run, besides blogs (but of course), I’ve been reading running books like there’s no tomorrow, most recently Chrissie Wellington’s book (she’s the 4x Ironman World Champ). Nothing like reading how someone runs a marathon after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 110 to make you think “Meh” of my scheduled 20-mile long run :)

Hahaha man calves. I’m part of that club too. I can’t even wear cute leather boots half the time since they don’t fit! What the heck. It’s called being an ATHLETE!

Any advice on spring races in Ohio? This place is a dead zone until May! I need a 5k and 10k and they are hard to find!

Amy did a great review of those shoes, so I recommend everyone go check it out (Running Escapades).

There is a 5k/10k at Malabar Farms in Lucas Ohio April 13. It is a beautiful place and I am thinking it is going to be a road/trail race? I have not personally done this one, but I am going to try to do the 10k this year. It will be my first one :) I usually stick to the short races but after following a few running blogs I am motivated to up my distance! Cincy’s Mini Heart Marathon has a 15k in March. I believe they also have a 5k and 10k as well as a half.

Ooh, those new Mizunos are pretty! I love my Brooks, but I wish they’d take a note from Mizuno regarding shoe color (although the Pure Project shoes aren’t bad.) Good luck with your marathons! I’d love to do Eugene someday; I’ve heard really good things about that race.

Signing up for a race is the ultimate motivation… So is having a blog. Nothing more motivating that knowing people are following your running journey and wanting to hear about your exercising and training!

Just finished my recap of the Vibram Hong Kong 100km – I was a volunteer and it was one of my best experience in the running world! Being a volunteer, helping out is such a fulfilling and enriching experience and Morgan (in the comments) sums it up best. Here’s the link

Can we please meet up in Eugene?? I loves meeting you in Vegas and can totally recommend perfect pizza for the night before the race. I’m only doing the half, but I’ll cheer for you at the finish!!!

Yes. Signing up for the first race is the toughest. One of my best friends, over a couple of years, has gone from a 10k to ultra marathons. Incredible.

God, I LOVE how easy your comment format is on my stupid phone! Seriously.

I’m all about spreading some love – I love Mizunos, I love blogs, and I LOVE Janae. I’m sure I’d love barre class if I tried it. I love how you do your thing despite hazers. I don’t, however, love chia. Gag.

I don’t remember the last time I did a lunge. I really want to do LA… I guess that would mean I have to run more than 13 miles…. haven’t done that in a long time. PS we are going to be down in March and April. I’ll start planning all of the things we are going to do together.

I follow that advice of signing up for races. I have already signed up or 2 5ks and a 7k all before March. That’s my motivation.

As for love, I find my motivation from other runners and their great stories. Keep it up everyone! Much love!!!

Faithful stalker, first time commenter. Thank you for such a fun, funny, running blog! The 15 vs. 16 post is just what I needed. Have and love the 15s, but have been teeter tottering on whether or not to get the 16s! Mizunos for life, baby!

You are loving this Barre class! I would love to try it out, but it’s so expensive here so I just stick to yoga…even though that’s expensive too!

Hot Dog, you are doing to LA as well. I am signed up and if I make it to the start line it will be my first. I have fallen behind on my traning sched due to an injury (longest run so far has been just over 13 miles). Should I give up hope or do you think I still have time to work up to Marathon miles in the next 6 weeks?

Thanks for your fun blog, you are always an inspiration. :)

Reply

SkinnyRunner January 31, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Well itd be really hard, like you would need to do long runs the next four weeks (15, 17, 19 and 21) or something, but if you’re healthy and feel good it is possible.

Wen February 2, 2013 at 9:28 pm

I just finished my first FULL marathon ever. I have to say unlike you it will probably be my only full marathon. I need to thank you for your blog as you gave me tips along the way. I stuck to what I knew and I didn’t deviate from what I knew worked – regardless of what people or training plans said.

Thanks in part to you http://greenlakegirl.blogspot.com/2013/02/maui-big-day-full-marathon-day.html was made possible.

I can now call myself a “Marathoner”. :-)

PS – for a GREAT course (does have hills) that is super scenic and is the best place in the world to recover from the Maui Oceanfront Marathon (or the MOM) is perfect.
