The weekend and a giveaway!

by SkinnyRunner on January 28, 2013

This weekend ended up a little different than planned but was still a lot of fun.

On Saturday we had passes to go to the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, but play was suspended all day because of fog.  <-craycray for San Diego weather.

20130126_123501 (800x600)

It was muddy and a little damp but not cold at all.

{We watched the guys practice and saw David Faherty//Salad Nicoise at the clubhouse//coffee with Kahlua//the leaderboard}

20130126_131051 (800x600)

We also saw Brandt Snedeker who won last year’s Fedex Cup tournament… and the $10 million prize.  Heeeeeeellllllllllloooo, there.

20130126_130915 (800x590)

We didn’t see any actual golf, but it was still fun to see all the plaid pants be there; I had never been to a golf tournament before.

20130126_151814 (800x576)

On the way home, the husband made a pit stop at Michele Coulon Dessertier in La Jolla, the bakery that made our wedding cake, and we shared a slice of the Gateau Eileen.  It was one of the three flavors we choose for our cake and it’ so unique and different, although I’m still sorta surprised I didn’t ask the French baker for a Funfetti cake with extra sprinkle frosting.

20130126_154541 (800x596)

The weekend ended with an impromptu dinner party with friends: the man grilled blue cheese encrusted filets like a boss, I made twice baked potatoes, and they brought me gorgeous flowers!  love me some fresh flowers.

GIVEAWAY – SHROOM TECH SPORT//HEMP FORCE

A couple months ago I was sent a bottle of Shroom TECH Sport, a clean energy supplement that uses the caterpillar mushrooms (Cordyceps Sinensis) to increase aerobic capacity, energy and ultimately, performance.  (You can see a list of the ingredients here and some of the research as well.)

2013-01-28_0744

Shroom TECH Sport by Onnit provides cellular energy through the production of ATP, helping the body improve oxygen utilization so you can go longer and recover faster.”

20130128_050411 (553x800)20130127_162205

I’ve been taking it for longer workouts (running 30 miles), recent marathons and half marathons.

We wanted clean energy, ingredients with a history of use in high-level competition, and general health benefits; we believe we have found it in our exclusive combination of cordyceps sinensis mushroom, adaptogens, antioxidants, and methyl B-12.

techhempforce

Onnit Labs is giving away a 30 count bottle of Shroom TECH Sport and a jar of Hemp FORCE protein that is valued at $75 to one of you!

I haven’t personally tried Hemp FORCE, but it’s a cocoa, maca and hemp protein superfood.  You can read about the health benefits and research of each here.

2013-01-28_0745

Hemp FORCE utilizes a rich and complete protein isolated from organic hemp seeds. Containing all of the essential amino acids, all three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and both essential fatty acids (Omega-3 and Omega-6), the protein profile of hemp seeds makes them one of the most nutritious sources in the plant kingdom.

You had me at ‘nutritious’ and ‘chocolate’.

Onnit (based out of Austin, TX, like this lil thang) makes a ton of different products including organic coconut oil, Himalayan salt, sustainable coffee, Vega shakes, organic teas, vitamins and supplements, energy, bars, fitness gear and more.

Right now you can use the code SKINNYRUNNER and save 10% on Onnit supplements.

For the giveaway, all you have to do is comment on this post and tell me one healthy supplement or food that you take (or would like to).

With running, I’m all about joint health so I take glucosamine daily.

You can get extra entries by liking Onnit’s Facebook page and following them on twitter.  Just let me know in the comments.

The giveaway will close Thursday 1/31 at 9am PST.

I thought of you when I saw that play was suspended. My hubs & I were laughing yesterday as the announcers were talking about how cold it was. We looked up the temp & saw that it was 56. People would be ecstatic to have 56 here, but I get that it’s atypical for San Diegans. Too bad you missed it though, my family goes to Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Tournament every year & it’s always such a good time.

I’m not currently taking anything but would love to find a multi-vitamin that didn’t feel “hard” on my stomach. I’ve taken both one a day women’s and the generic version and even if I eat first, my stomach feels blah after taking them. I guess I’ll pop some Flintstone’s until I find a “grown up” vitamin I can handle.

And Hemp protein is great. I don’t eat much meat and love that hemp is an excellent plant protein source!

Reply

I take iron daily and also Vitamin D. There’s not much sun where I’m from so absorption of an adequate amount of Vit D is impossible without supplementation. I’m looking for a new protein supplement and would love to try the hemp out! I have never really enjoyed any of the whey formulas.

When I go running my calves usually get tight really fast, I think due to low potassium. So, since I can’t have bananas I would like to try cactus sometime in the near future. I’ve been told it is very high in potassium and some even say it should be a staple in every runner’s diet.

Hania January 28, 2013 at 9:47 am

I don’t take any supplements but would love to give a try! Instead of this I’m very careful with my diet, lots of peanut butter, bananas, chocolate, flax seeds, almonds and… chicken! :) I think chicken is my supplement ;-)

I take glucosamine for my knees and I’m trying to get better about taking fish oil as well. I would love to try these.

I take fish oil and a multi vitamin ever day. I also eat a ton of kale.

Speaking of funfetti, have you tried the funfetti dip? It so good! Just use equal parts (I usually use 1 cup of each) greek vanilla or plain yogurt and cool whip (low fat if you want to be healthy) and then add in a 1/4 cup of the dry cake mix. You can always keep adding yogurt, cool whip or cake mix to taste. I serve it with animal crackers.

I take cinnamon daily- it helps support sugar metabolism, as well as circulatory and heart health. As a PCOS sufferer, I’m in love with sugar and my body doesn’t process it well… bad combo leaving me zapped before my morning runs even begin! Cinnamon daily with a little food about an hour before my runs!
