Last week I was invited along with a group of bloggers to LA to tour the Nature Made headquarters and learn more about the company and their newest product VitaMelts which are tiny, smooth dissolving tablets made with natural flavors that taste good and are actually fun to take. Fish oil pills=not fun.
At the headquarters we were able to meet Erin O’Malia Gehan, VP of Marketing and John Welk, the Director of Insights who’s also a marathon runner. Wahoo for runners!

Nature Made’s mission includes two main points: science and quality. Their goal is to produce pharmaceutical-grade vitamins and supplements that pass the most stringent standards (including third-party verification testing) and that science has proven are beneficial to our bodies.
We also met Louis Ndife, Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs and Jones Chan, Director of Research and Development. It was really interesting to talk to Jones in the research lab and watch how Nature Made tests things like the solubility and efficacy of their products. We also saw how they made the VitaMelts prototypes:
There are six VitaMelts products offered on the market right now: Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C (immune support), Relax (L-Theanine), Energy (Vitamin B12) and Sleep (Melatonin).
- VitaMelts Zinc delivers 15mg, 100% DV of zinc which supports a healthy immune system; it comes in a natural honey lemon flavor.
- VitaMelts Vitamin D has 1000 IU of Vitamin D3 which supports bone and immune health and has a natural creamy vanilla flavor (my favorite flavor)
- VitaMelts Vitamin C contains 60mg, 100% DV of Vitamin C which also supports a healthy immune system. It comes in a natural juicy orange flavor.
- VitaMelts Relax is made up of 200mg of L-theanine which helps relax the mind, and it’s a natural green tea mint flavor.
- VitaMelts Energy is formulated with 1500 mcg of Vitamin B-12 to support cellular energy production by helping the body convert food into energy. The flavor is a natural mixed berry.
- VitaMelts Sleep contains 3 mg of Melatonin, which may help support more restful sleep; it comes in a natural chocolate mint flavor that is my second favorite flavor.
These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any diseases.
What I like about VitaMelts is that they come in portable, small containers that can easily be thrown in a gym bag or purse. They make taking vitamins accessible and easy for busy, on-the-go lifestyles, they’re fun and taste a heck of a lot better than traditional vitamins!
After learning how dedicated Nature Made is to making high quality products at affordable prices, I was asked to become a Nature Made Brand Ambassador. As one I was also asked to create Healthy Pledge for 2013 and mine is to commit to strength/toning training classes this year. I’m obviously dedicated to cardio (running) but tend to lose interest in anything else. After hitting the dirty 30 last month, I need to do some strength training!
Nature Made is all about “setting higher standards” with their product research, their scientific testing, and their customer service. For me, setting personal higher standards means becoming a little more consistent and dedicated to healthy choices on my ‘off’ or rest days. I seem to not eat quite as well, not drink as much water, and skip the vitamins on my rest days so I want to keep that healthy mindset even on days when I’m not running a lot of miles.

I’m going to look into the VitaMelts Sleep for sure! Anything that will help me sleep better but still be natural!!!
Thanks for the info!
i put the vitamelt sleep in my bedside drawer for those nights when im just restless and not falling asleep.
I am intrigued by the energy one. Is it something you could take before a workout or run? Or more of an all day thing?
The Kidless Kronicles
Congrats on becoming an ambassador! I, too, have trouble making sure I eat well on my days off. I’m usually extra hungry and have no problem reaching for an extra scoop of ice cream or something else. I think that’s a great pledge to commit to. My coach told us yesterday “you need speed and with strength training comes speed” so I’m really going to work on that this year too.
I’ve been wanting to take more vitamins lately. This looks like a perfect way to do it when I’m on the go, which is all the time!
i tend to be really good about taking them in the morning after i workout, but on rest days i get this “why bother?” attitude which is dumb!
Those look really cool-I’ll need to check them out! I feel dumb though…are they like a liquid or a chewy deal? (Blonde…ugh!)
they’re like a fast melting mint. theyre not liquid, you could chew them but they melt really fast.
Oh my gosh that is so cool that you got to go do that! What an amazing experience, you’re pretty much famous
I recently started taking melatonin and I love it so much. I should try NatureMade’s version. I take so many vitamins, it’s ridiculous.
Sorry, this has nothing to do with vitamins, but you look fantastic (as always).
Looks like a lot of fun!
It might sound weird to do this with supplements but I bought one of those “days of the week” pill boxes and I put my supplements in there. My multivitamin, vitamin D, B12 & glucosamine. That way I have a reminder if I’ve taken them yet or not. It has really worked for me and thus I’ve rarely forgotten to take them.
i brought my vitamins with my for the couple days in a little sandwich zip bag! and bianca from mizzfit.com actually brought her pill case too!
How fun! I’m intrigued by the “Relax” for those extra stressful days at the office…
Your commitment to strength and toning classes is awesome! Not that you need to be even more awesome at running, but nothing helped my speed like strengthening!!!
I take Nature Made vitamins, but I don’t think they are the vitamelts. I may need to look into these, thanks for the info.
I win the award for the nerdiest looking Nature Made ambassador in that factory photo! Loved meeting you last week.
Interesting Combos, will look into.
Wow! I want to try both the sleeping and vitamin c. I hate taking pills so I know i can deffinitly replace some of my vitamins with the melts. Loving that they have melts now.
Sounds interesting.
I am more than interested in the relax and sleep. Being diagnosed with anxiety and taking prescriptions is no fun. I would prefer a natural way to ease the tension.
I would love to try two of those, the energy even though I do have a lot of energy some days I’m without any energy, and of course the sleep because for those days that you can’t sleep.
I use several of the Vita Melts. They are the greatist. With the smaller containers, I am happy to take them with me on trips.
I take Limbitrol .5 mg can I also take vitamelts relax?
I can’t answer that since im not sure what limbitrol is? but when we were asking the researchers at nature made questions, they made it very clear for specific cases, to speak with our own doctors on specifics. so i guess thats what i would have to say too, is to talk to your doctor about it.
I’m going to try the VitaMelt D.
My pledge for 2013 is to start a walking program as soon as I recover from this horrible flu.
I’m going to look for these the next time I go to the store! Especially the sleep and energy!
I didn’t know they had so many different varieties. I am definitely going to try the Energy!!
I’d love to try the sleep formula, perhaps the energy as well.
I am going to try the sleep ones too. My husband has such trouble sleeping, and I hope that these will help him!
