WORKOUT -

Elliptical -

60 mins

(yesterday)

Ran on TM -

30 miles/4:05

1.0 incline

Yesterday was a blogging day of silence  so I stepped away from all social media for the day to show my support in a very miniscule way for those who’ve been so tragically affected in the Connecticut shooting.

{Edited to Add: Please send donations to United Way of Connecticut instead of Scentsy}

Reader Ranae sent an email about a way to support the children of Sandy Hook Elementary:

scentsy-logo

“In light of the horrible tragedy in Connecticut , Scentsy consultants are coming together to try to do something neat for the surviving students upon their arrival back at school after the holidays.”

Our goal is to have a Scentsy Buddy sitting on the desk of every student upon returning to school next month (and hopefully excess for siblings and friends that were also impacted).  A fellow Scentsy consultant who teaches at Sandy Hook is collecting the donations since we are unable to send directly to the school during the investigation.”

“Scentsy Buddies are currently BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE, so your donation would be going to two children at Sandy Hook Elementary.  If you order, please order from the “Buddies for Sandy Hook Elementary” party on my website.  All hostess rewards will be used to donate additional Buddies to the students.”

“My website is http://www.wicklessrusk.scentsy.us if you need any help when ordering please let me know. To get the buy one get one free just type in BOGO into the search bar.”

Ship to:
Heather Bishop
9 Goldmine Rd
New Milford, CT 06776

“Thank you so much for helping support these students and this community during this horrible time. Please continue to pray not only for Newtown, CT, but our nation as a whole.”

YESTERDAY

Yesterday was also my 30th birthday; thanks to all (Margot!) for the birthday wishes.

I rang in my third decade the only way I knew how: shedding some tears over my 20’s, staring at my wrinkles in the mirror and running 30 miles…

on a treadmill.  Never said I was smart.

20121217_062109 (569x800)

{My view for 4 hours and 5 minutes.}

It was raining and storming and windy and plain nasty outside so I went to a local gym and started running at 6:30am.  This is what the run looked like (the treadmill restarted after 65 minutes):

65 mins/8.05 miles -  8:04 pace

65 mins/8.05 miles – 8:04 pace

65 mins/7.9 miles – 8:13 pace

50 mins/6.0 miles – 8:20 pace

I didn’t have any music to listen to, but at least there was TV so I watched the news the whole time, most of which was special coverage from Connecticut.

I came home and iced like an Alaskan would, with frozen halibut fillets and banana Nuun, thanks to Sarah:

002 (800x650)

I don’t post many pictures of my family on my blog anymore, but I had to include this shot my SIL took of my brother and I from last night:

Happy birthday to my 3 year older twin!  (We share birthdays)

Happy birthday!!!!! If I were to ever run 30 miles…on a treadmill…I’d need endless supply of snacks, a bigger TV, Jillian michaels (or skinny runner:) screaming at me to finish (starting at about mile 5) and probably a 1 million dollar check at “the finish line”. That being said, WAY TO GO!!!!

University of Connecticut (UCONN)
Has started a scholarship fund for all the kids, siblings and dependents of the teachers. UCONN security is also helping out the town.

As someone who lives in Connecticut, its so sad. Our schools will never be the same.

Happy 30th! I had to re-read that…30 miles on the TM…I guess you’re “that person” that ignores the 20 minute per machine limit…kidding…If I tried to run my age on a TM I’d have to miss the party it would take me so long.

Reply

SkinnyRunner December 18, 2012 at 9:50 am

yeah i was worried about a time limit so i asked the gym employee if it was ok actually. she said bc its such a small gym (in a warehouse in a really small town) that they dont have any limits. they only had 4 treadmills and for most of the time, i was the only one of any of them!

Happy Birthday. FYI- Your blog is very inspiring. I thought I was crazy doing most of my first half marathon training on the treadmill. Do all treadmills cut off at sixty five minutes? It is super annoying to me and I have been trying to figure out a way around it for some time now. I enjoy the treadmill since it’s better on my knees, safer, and climate controlled. I can’t imagine it with no tunes though. More power to you!

Reply

SkinnyRunner December 18, 2012 at 1:35 pm

i think some might go to 100 minutes? all the ones i have run on at the gym(s) go to 60 minutes and then have a 5 minute “cooldown” so i just reset it after that. gives me a nice little break in between hours!

FYI, you might want to post the Scentsy thing… They are not accepting any kind of Scentsy buddies. All donations are to go to the United Way of CT. I sell Scentsy and just tonight Scentsy sent out an email about NOT trying to help by donating Scentsy Buddies. We are asked to not to do this. If we wanted to help we could donate to the United Way of CT.
I know we are all trying to help, but just for your FYI.

That’s cool that you and your brother share a birthday! My Dad and his sister share a birthday (in December) and then his two brothers also share a birthday (in the spring), and everyone is at least two years apart.

Try and stay dry while you’re in Oregon. All that rain is good duck weather…and for the record I use that expression for all rainy weather, not just rainy weather in Duck country.

Happy 30th!! Just curious, did you consume anything during your TM run?

yeah i grabbed some random stuff from my moms house: a banana, a pack of fruit gummis and a clif bar and if i had had more, i would have taken in a bit more. and 4-5 bottles of water.

Hi! Just had to let you know of a strange coincidence… My birthday was also on Monday, and it was my 3-years-older brother’s birthday too! Weird. Hope you had a happy day.

Happy Birthday! You are my new idol for running that far on a treadmill. That is insane!! My personal record is 13.1 (the .1 was just to say I did a half-marathon – ha ha)

Happy birthday! I turn 30 in August and you are such an inspiration to me. I only started running in June to prepare for the Tinkerbell 1/2. Super excited for my first half and I wanted to send you a quick comment to say thank you for helping me by sharing your life here on your blog :)
