Tonight I’m flying up to Oregon for a little more than 2 weeks.
I tried to pack light in order to have room in my suitcase to bring back Christmas presents.
But being gone 2 weeks means that half of my suitcase is going to be dedicated to cold weather running gear. priorities.
Good thing my mom has a washer and dryer… and only charges $2.25 per load.
This is what I packed for working out:
1. Saucony running gloves (on sale), Red Ledge rain jacket and Pro Compression fleece running hat – I’m pretty much counting on running in the rain at some point.
2. Two long sleeve pullovers (this one and this one)
3. compression socks
4. Two long sleeve technical shirts (race shirts)
5. Two pairs of capris (one Nike, one from here) and a pair of Nike running tights (these are similar but much nicer)
6. Two tank tops for possible gym days – I’m hoping to get a cheap visitor’s gym pass.
7. One pair of shorts
8. 4 sports bras (all MC)
Man, that’s a lot of gear just to sweat in for an hour each morning. Why didn’t I become a swimmer so I could just pack a speedo?!
Good thing I have a little room left over for other clothes…
Whenever the temperature dips below 60 degrees, I act like I’m in a commercial freezer so I’m bringing lots of long sleeve shirts (love Splendid tops) and sweaters, sweatshirts and long sleeved button-ups. When you’re in the PNW, you wear plaid. you just do.
And some Christmas morning apparel. can’t forget that.

have fun in OR…oh how i miss p-town. get ur voodoo on for me while u’re there!
I was a swimmer my whole life & there is SO much stuff to bring with you! When I switched from swimming to running I loved how much less I had to travel with. Funny how that works
Have a great time with your family!
I live an hour from my parents so will be there most of the time!
Ugh. I only have one MC bra. I need 800. I have DD’s.
Where’s the hairdo gear?
Enjoy Oregon! Thought I’d chime in that I’ll be locked in a freezer for the holidays. A freezer known as Fairbanks, Alaska. I know you feel my pain. Sure right now it’s 21 degrees but this weekend the HIGH will be 38 below zero. Snow and cold for the holidays is SO overrated!
I can’t wait to move outta this place and say “remember those winters where it was 40 below all winter? Yeah – I don’t miss THAT crap!”
Have a great time in OR! I’m heading to the East Coast next week to visit mine and my husband’s families for the holidays. I’ll have to pack lots of cold weather gear too, since we’ll probably get some snow!
I miss spending Xmas and New Year in a temperate country; love my uni days in UK and holidays in Europe. The closest I came to “colder” Xmas/New Year was 3 years ago in HK. Will be spending the hols right here in tropical Kuala Lumpur.
I’ll be spending the holidays at home here in Michigan with family although I must say that I miss the snow! Most enjoyed our unusually warm winter last year but this snowbird would love to see some snow make an appearance for Christmas. Hope you have a lovely time in Oregon!
Have a great time away! I’m spending Christmas day with my husband and friends this year in London and catching up with family later in the week. Very excited about the holidays. Enjoy!!
I am going to New Zealand tomorrow, and have packed a lot of running/workout stuff- I’m hoping the laid back vibe over there will mean it is acceptable to wear capris/tanks all the time. Also packing 5 sports bras- too many for 2 weeks?
I will be spending the holidays at home here in Iceland. All of my family lives close by (10-30 minute walk) so there’s no need to travel anywhere
Have a great time in OR!
We are staying home. My family is all here (about 60 of us), And part of his family is here too.
I will be locked in a freezer…upstate New York! Thankfully it’s for only a couple days, so if I don’t run very day it’s not the end of the world. I will bring a list of workouts I can do inside without equipment and stay in shape.
Love Oregon- it’ll be great to spend so much time with your family! And if you’re staying at your parent’s house, at least they have the Nike outlet nearby!
I’m spending Christmas in a freezer called edmonton, where I live. On the bright side, it looks like a beautiful white Christmas!
I cracked up about the flannel, totally see where you’re coming from on that one, except I’m from Wisconsin and once you get to the northern half of the state, flannels just… Happen. Not for a fashion statement, just because they’re warm and we can.
I’m spending the holidays back and forth alllll over Wisconsin.. from my moms house to my dads house to Andy’s dads house to Andy’s aunts house and then finishing it all off with a trip to Mexico right after New Years.. Not a bad way to start the year
Have fun! We went to Oregon for our honeymoon and loved it.
I think the Northern Illinois freezer is broken so far (knock on wood).
I call it COLD when it gets to the point of wanting to cry because it’s so cold but refuse to cry because the tears would instant freeze to my face.
This is going to be my first Christmas in Minnesota (aka a freezer). But on the bright side, 2 weeks after I’ll be in Florida for Disney marathon weekend
I’m going to Colorado to our family’s cabin and getting married there!!
congrats!
I will be spending Christmas visting my family in OR as well! Also coming from warmer weather my suitcase contents will be very similar. It is tough to pack light when packing cold weather clothes, even tougher when you have to leave room for Christmas presents. I leave all my warm coats in OR and make my Mom bring one to the airport when she picks me up.
Enjoy!
I wish I would be locked in a freezer!… All the family lives local so in the good ol’ Shenandoah Valley Virginia for me an my family.
I also have your holiday pjs!…
I’ll be going to Vegas and L.A. after Christmas. Vegas will be during the lull-time before everyone goes over for NYE. It should be pretty chilly, but not unbearable.
Since we moved, we get to spend it at “home” this year! Arizona.
The Kidless Kronicles
Fun that you get to go spend that much time with your family. We are staying home this year which is nice. Super excited for staying up late putting all the toys together Christmas Eve and then seeing the look on baby girls face (almost 2) when she comes out Christmas morning. Can’t wait.
Thanks for the reminder, needs some cute matching family Christmas Jams – those are a must!
Spending the holidays in Seattle and Yakima. You’re right about plaid in the PNW, it’s the first thing that goes into my suitcase! Merry Christmas!
Ugh I hate packing! Just looking at your clothes laid out gives me packers anxiety! (It’s a real thing I swear).
Luckily my immediate family lives four miles away, so there’s not a lot of travel for the holidays. Unfortunately, we are locked in the New England tundra, so it will be chilly.
I’ll be spending Xmas in the Seattle area since well, I live here. Let me say, that even though I live here, I still wear clothing like i live in the frozen tundra. I always feel chilled and walk around in fleeces, cardigans, etc… It’s stupid. I hate the weather. Unless it snows then I’m okay to look overdressed in puffy vests.
Did you pack at least 2 pairs of running shoes since one pair will obviously get wet.
What is the lowest temperature you have run in? And how did you dress for it? When I run in cold temperatures, not only do my hands freeze, but my entire forearms are like ice! They get so uncomfortable that I usually just run on a treadmill in winter (live in PA). But I really prefer to run outside. I would love some tips for cold weather running.
i have not run in really cold weather ever. like maybe 40s i bet.
I’m spending the holidays here in Beaverton, Oregon. Running in the cold is a bit of a bummer but add in the rain and its a downer. I’m running in the Holiday Half this Sunday and its supposed to be freezing and rain!! Enjoy your time here in Oregon. BTW-I don’t wear plaid…:)
Have fun here in Oregon! Weather hasn’t been to bad, but then again you’ll be in Astoria and its dang cold there! Have a Merry Christmas!
I’m spending the holidays at my parent’s house…not in a freezer. Funny how us So Cal’ers think freezing is anything under 65 degrees…I’m in the same boat!
I’m hosting a 12 days of giveaways leading up to the holidays, check it out!
Have fun in Oregon, SR! I bet it’s so pretty at this time of year…and freezing cold!
I just did the same thing as you last night/this morning. I packed for Arizona this weekend and more than half of my stuff is for working out. Have a fun trip. Look forward to seeing photos!
I loathe packing. I always overpack. #losing
Considering I literally have lived out of a suitcase the past four years (bouncing between two houses), I’ve gotten awfully good at packing. A week long trip can be packed into one carry-on sized piece of luggage now. It’s a great life skill to have.
I’ll be spending Christmas within one hour of my house, so no thoughts about what to pack will be involved.
Safe travels, everyone!
I’ll be chillin’ up at home in Boston. That’s pretty much a freezer.
welcome to Oregon!!! not sure which part you are coming to, but I live about an hour south of Portland, and today is actually the first really cold day we have had. I typically start out in a tanktop with a thin longsleeve over it and gloves, but I usually end up with just my tank on by about half way and ditching the gloves. I tend to get very warm when running tho, so layer up is my best advice!
enjoy and hope you have a great trip!
I’ll be heading home, to my Freezer for Christmas-New Year’s. I mean, who doesn’t want to ditch sunny SoCal to go spend the holidays in Toledo, Ohio?!
Spending the holidays in Hawaii and New England, but I wish that Oregon was a stop along the way. I love it there! Spent a lot of time in Eugene and I miss it alot, beautiful place, great wine, food and great people!
AHHH! I wish I could see you on this Oregon trip! I loved meeting you at Veges RNR. Too bad you couldn’t come out on Sunday to the Holiday Half in Portland, I’ll be there, in costume, with lots of other crazy runners! Have a safe trip, have so much fun with your family!
Hahaha! I get the same way! I will be spending the holidays at home this year, woohoo!
My husband and I started the tradition of going away together for Christmas 4 years ago- no big family decisions necessary. We waited to long to book airfare, so we’re driving to Phoenix to stay at the Biltmore. Should be relaxing!
Staying in warm FL this year. TN is usually a grab bag for Christmas weather. Sometimes it’s freezing and other times it’s shorts weather.
I don’t even like packing for a weekend away, 2 weeks would be so hard! Have a great trip! I’ll be home for the holidays aside from a day trip out to Jersey, but I’m sure I’ll still be running around like a crazy person. Tis the season!
Spending the holidays here in NJ since our family is within an hour of each other!! Love all my Splendid long sleeve shirts and believe I am getting some more for Hanukkah tonight!
I live in Portland but am spending the holidays with family in Denver! The weather here has been surprisingly nice and I ran 10 mi last week in a tank top and capris so I think you’ll really enjoy it! There are a bunch of LA fitness gyms around and they offer a free 3 day pass. I’d the Pearl District one cuz its huge and has really nice equipment. Happy Holidays!
I will be spending it in the Midwest with family. But I will miss spending it in my OR home.
It’s been so warm here in IL this year (as in the high 40s/50s) that I’m ready for some cooler weather! BRING IT ON!
(I may regret that statement later so please feel free to remind me then….)
So true about the plaid, it’s everywhere up here! Does your hubs get to go also?
Have fun in my neck of the woods! I recommend running the waterfront (there is a great 10mile loop) or the Leif Erickson Trail. I did 10 miles on Leif Erickson t his morning and it was great! 36 degrees and rain/snowing, but it was great!
SR, I live in South Dakota and despise dreadmills! I don’t know how you do it! I just started blogging and talked about my cold running gear. I might have to try out some of yours!
