A VIP Christmas Party

by SkinnyRunner on December 8, 2012

WORKOUT -

Ran outside -

11.1 miles/1:38

hills, slow, terrible

3 minute plank

Everything about this run was terrible: I just couldn’t get my body to move at all.  Just slow, creaky and crappy.

So I came home and did a 3 minute plank to see how close I’d get to dying.  Dying during a plank, by the way, would be a really lame way to die.

PARTY SEASON

Thursday night I went to a “VIP Christmas Party” at Road Runner Sports in Laguna Hills.

Seriously, join their VIP program: it only costs $1.99 and you get 10% off year round, free shipping and other perks.  And let’s be honest: if I’m a VIP, they’re letting anyone in.

016 (800x448)

I met up with Monica and by the time we arrived, there was a line out the door.  RRS is the place to be.

I was afraid they weren’t going to let us two hoodlums in.

019 (428x800)

Once inside we got the party started.  By that I mean I was really hungry and ate a bunch of Dove chocolates and candies.  party on, dude.

Everything in the store was 20% off and they also had a tree where you could pick an “ornament” with an additional discount up to $10, but you didn’t know how much it was for until you opened it.

017 (447x800)

Mine was for $5 off:

020 (800x438)

021 (450x800)

Monica might have been peeking and looking for the biggest discount because at the top of her Christmas list: a treadmill.  (Actually I have no idea if that’s true or not.)

022 (450x800)

{This is the treadmill I want but it’s $3800 and I’m so poor, all we exchange at Christmas is glances.}

Besides some great sales, there was a bunch of vendors there with their new products and the important stuff, food and wine!  There was everything from hummus and cheese to cookies, chocolate and champagne.  Man, I love running.

025 (800x433)

024 (450x800)

I kept my losing streak alive and intact by not winning any of the raffles, but I got to see my friends so that’s sort of as cool as winning…

Thanks RRS for a fun night!  And for letting me in the door….

What the what??? Look at Monica!! She looks super thin in the pic by the tree!! Trying to figure out if I just haven’t been paying attention to what’s going on over at RER or if I don’t usually see her in a fitted shirt??!!

Aww…. looks like so much fun. I bet the one down here had a little party too. Dang it. I want a new treadmill in the worst way. When is Santa going to start handing those out?

Hey, I got me a losing streak, too! I just hope to win it big sometime with one of those grand prizes in magazines or even a blog giveaway.

I wish there was an RRS near me! Our running stores don’t have any parties :(

I want one of those fancy treadmills that have courses programmed into them, they allow you to pretend you’re running special routes.

and PS in the olden days, I used to not have to log in my name/email/website every time that I wanted to comment on your blog, but for some reason the last couple months I’ve had to log in each time. Wonder if I need to change something with the cookies setting on my computer, I wonder if everyone else has this situation?

Do you think your ‘slow, terrible’ run could be your body telling you to takea day off?! Seriously dude. Typically people who just ran 30 miles in a day take a few days off after.

Reply

SkinnyRunner December 9, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Thanks Dania for your concern. I did take 2 days off last week and didn’t even leave the house or change out of pajamas so they were true rest days.

Yesterday’s run was terrible and slow because my head wasn’t in it all. I was thinking/dealing with life stuff that never makes it on the blog.

And lastly, I’d like to think I know my body really well. I’ve run 30 miles before and PR’ed the next weekend. In fact, after yesterday’s terrible run, I PR’ed today.

Life stuff always takes the zippyness out of my body! Hope all is okay! :)

Yep! Glad to know I’m not the only one it brings down from time to time :)

Looks like a super fun party!!! I’m really impressed with your plank-I’ve gotta work my way up to that!

Well, at least if you died during a plank, you wouldn’t have far to fall, so your face wouldn’t be all smushed and ruined. Bright side!

For a second I was like “omg! I’m fast! I ran 11 miles in the same time SR did!” Then saw it was a crappy, slow run for you. Rats :/ it was a pr for me.
All that to say you’re awesome and I kinda idolize you!

SkinnyRunner December 9, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Haha we only compete against ourselves so congrats on 11 miles. That’s great!

Question real quick,
Do you think that running primarily on a TM this winter will be ok if I’m training for a half in March? I know you can whip out a half in your sleep, but I wonder if a TM will make running outside harder for me? Should I keep it on an incline? I’m looking to run faster than last year and I never set foot on a TM until just recently.
Or is it NBD at all…just curious what you think…
Thanks!

I run at 1.o% incline to offset the treadmill factor (no wind resistance, perpetual motion, etc) but i think you can definitely train for races entirely on treadmills. i know janae from hrg trained for her first marathon that way.
