{Early morning elevator shot headed to the gym}

I’ll have a race recap up this afternoon or tomorrow morning; we’re headed home from Vegas now.

PIZZA PIZZA

After the expo on Saturday we drove over to Grimaldi’s, to the location off the Strip.

We had been to one in NYC last year and knew their thin crust pizza was where the party’s at.

051 (800x449)

We arrived at 5:45 and there wasn’t a wait, but the place was already full.  By the time we left, there was a line out the door.  Who needs clubs in Vegas when you can eat with the early birds and still have all the people packed in line?!  We are so old and lame.

20121201_175130 (599x800)

We started off with a glass of Prosecco for me and a Peroni beer for him.

Then we ordered salads: I ordered the large Mediterranean and the waitress asked if it was my entrée because it feeds 3-4 people.  um, no, not in my world.

20121201_175656 (767x800)

Appetizer salad… for one.

20121201_181047 (800x600)

done.

And then we ordered a large pizza: half pepperoni and half margherita.

20121201_181255 (800x600)

20121201_182343 (800x600)

done.

As if that wasn’t enough food to feed a pack of hungry wolves Yorkies, we ordered another large pizza to take back to the room.

carbo loading, done.

What’s your go-to pre-race meal?

I know pizza is for this girl.

Grimaldi’s is so amazing. You know we have them in Phoenix?!! There’s one right next to my part-time job in Chandler, and it’s a daily struggle not go there every damn time I get off work.

You’ll have to visit one of their PHX locations the next time you’re visiting your folks here.

Pizza is great! I’m a big fan of spaghetti, always works for me. Beer works too :) That is a huge salad, but looks tasty!

Is it wrong that I would eat (almost) that much on any given night (…last night comes to mind…). Seriously, pizza is my weakness and I always – always – have 3 slices (ok, I’d be lying if I said I haven’t eaten 4 in one sitting – then I’m usually in pain, but it’s oh so good….!!!) Hey, we only live once, right? :-)

Pizza! Thankfully I married a guy who has serious pizza making skills. He makes it from scratch every week. Yum!!!

OHHHHHH Grimaldi’s…YUM!! Is the one in Vegas as good as the one in New York?? We were in St. George, Utah a couple of months ago and I told my hubby to drive me to Vegas for Grimaldi’s. He thought I was joking but NO, I was serious as a heart attack!!!

Yumm that pizza looks so good! Whenever I need carbs I usually go for tortellini though.
Random question: did you wear your Mizunos all day? I remember you writing about not wearing running shoes for anything else but running!

i wore other clothes and flats in the morning but at the expo i wore my mizunos and i was too lazy to change to go to dinner so i did wear them for half the day.

Wow…that pizza looks incredible! Great way to carb load. Wish we had a car so we could explore a little more of Vegas while we are in town.

That picture of you behind the pizza is too cute!!! Can’t wait to hear your recap and hope you had safe travels!

I can also do a number on a salad….and thin crust? obviously, it’s thin, so you can eat more. Isn’t that the point?

Never heard of this magical place, but apparently I need to go.

My pre-race meal is pasta with chicken. I tried pizza before my last race and it didn’t sit well.

That is one big-ass pizza!!! haha!

I think italian food is the way to go before a race. I always try to have either pasta or gnocchi with red sauce. Accompanied by a Guiness (for the carbs ;) ).

Definitely pizza or pasta!! This past weekend, it was a huge portabello cheeseburger on brioche, and I won’t do that again, thank god there was no embarrasing story resulting.

Pizza or spaghetti. I feel so predictable right now. But I like thick-crust pizza. Now that’s really spicing things up.

You must have a stomach of steel! I have to avoid salads and pizza before a race because it does not sit well in my stomach, ugh. I usually order a small protein and plain jane pasta! After the race is a different story though! :)

Pizza is always our go-to pre-race or pre-long run meal. So delicious and filling.

That pizza looks TO. DIE. FOR! I want some NOW. As far as my pre race meals go I usually go with typical spaghetti. Boring, I know.

I had pizza before my marathon over the weekend, too (except yours looks WAY better)!

That pizza looks amazing. I’ve had pasta in the past before races, but an excessive amount of pizza sounds better to me at this point.

jessica@momtomarathon December 3, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Wow! I would have never thought of eating pizza the night before but I think I must try it out. I have my first full marathon in January so I will try eating pizza the night before my long run. Your amazing and I wish I could run as fast as you. I struggle just to maintain a 10 minute mile and get super excited if I maintain a 9 minute pace for my shorter runs. Have you always been so fast or did you work up to the speed?

Ha. I was just thinking that I only east pizza these days before a race. Can’t wait to hear how the pizza treated you! :) Love that you hung at the Pro booth! :)

I love Grimaldi’s! There is one close by. I hear they have a chemist on staff to re-create the NYC water. I have no idea if that’s true. They use fresh mozzerella too! It’s the only pizza that doesn’t make me feel icky for eating it. Love their salads too!

Brennan @ Yum Run December 3, 2012 at 8:04 pm

Hahaha! Too cute!!! Your dates are a lot like mine with my hubs, except my hubs doesn’t help much with finishing the pizza. He leaves the dirty work to me.

Yum, I love pizza! I’ll have to hit up that place next time we’re in Vegas. We like the pizza in the New York, New York…it’s tasty and close by (we usually don’t have a car when we go to Sin City).

Homecooked dinner of noodles with stir fried tofu, mushrooms, assorted veg and a side of cashew nuts or peanuts. If I’m away, pasta, noodles although I’ve indulged in Indian bread (naan, prata, capati) and curries.

I’d have to say pizza has become my favorite post race meal! That one looked yummy!
