WORKOUT -
Ran on TM -
7.5 miles/60 mins
1.0 incline
early morning miles
I started out at 8:30 min/mile pace and kept speeding up until I was sprinting at the end and finished with 7.5 miles.
Right after the gym I met my friend Katie for coffee. This is us but definitely not today as Katie was dressed all cute and professional to head to work and I was a sweaty, pimply mess, per usual:
Katie is an NP and can I just say that although the DR’s office makes me so nervous and I hate going, you all in the medical field have tough and stressful and important jobs so THANK YOU for what you do.
Moving on to way more important things, I had my first Shellac gel manicure yesterday. I know, breaking news here. I had a $5 off coupon so I decided to get wild and go for it.
I was all set with a grey color and then at the last minute decided to go with gold glitter to match my Vegas costume…
Bad decision. I don’t like it on my stubby little nubs. oh well, beats the hangnails that were there.
Keeping the beauty train rolling, I went to Sephora last night for some new makeup. The closest Sephora is in a JCPenney so I walked around and checked it out: there are a lot of cute clothes that are really affordable. I was surprised, lot of cute workout gear too…
{Click on each picture for links, but all these are between $10-20.}
Anyways, I ran out of the Clinique foundation I was using and had a gift card for Sephora; I really wanted to try HD Make Up For Ever so I bought the complexion starter kit.
I’ll let you know if it turns me into a supermodel…
Has anyone used HD Make Up For Ever?
What make up do you use?
How often do you wear makeup?
If I leave the house, I usually have some makeup on, but if I’m just at home I don’t.

I use Bare Minerals and I LOVE IT!! It is the only thing that keeps from acne prone skin clean and fresh looking without causing breakouts.
Me too! Between the Bare Minerals and my Clarisonic, I finally have clear skin! The Clarisonic gets my skin SO clean!
It’s amazing what can happen when you’re not putting butt-loads of chemicals on your face and never washing them off all the way, hahaha.
Bare Minerals here too! I wear it every week day because I’m in an office. I skip it on the weekend. I love it because it’s breathable and my I have never had a major breakout since switching.
Jennifer ::)
I use Bare Minerals. Love it!
Ahhh they are a fun colour! I’ve been wanting to try Shellac but I’m nervous that it will damage my nails…please report back once you’ve have it taken off and let us all know what you think! Love buying new makeup, sounds like you had a good day.
hi there. wanted to assist with the shellac answer. i love it! it keeps my nails strong and seriously does not come off ( and i’m a busy mom ). so, it depends where you go. i don’t like for the manicurist to file the top of my nail ( like for acrylic ). i just let them buff it a bit. so, if you shellac every two to three weeks, yes, the nail will get a bit weaker. i peeled my last coat off last month and my nails are recovering well….much better than with acrylic. the nails were a bit weaker and the top of them looked a bit damaged but it wasn’t too bad. i’m thinking if i had not peeled it off and let the salon take it off, they would have turned out better. i hope this helps.
Hi Jenny, thanks so much for your answer, that’s interesting to know. I think the weakness thing puts me off doing it regularly but I’ll be tempted to try it and maybe look into it for holidays or special occasions
. Have a great weekend
Love the gray workout top!
I use MAC foundation, not because I like it better than others but because I always get gift cards for there.
How come you’ve been tm running lately?
This morning I had to run at 5:30am and it was still dark out so thats why I did today. But sometimes I just like to zone out and watch the news on the TM. i dont have to think or push the pace, all i have to do is keep up and not fall off.
Sorry you don’t like your manicure-I hate it when that happens! I’m impressed with those clothes from JCPenney! Can’t wait to hear about how your already supermodel looks improve with your new makeup! : )
I wear Mary Kay or Too Faced foundation. If you use a good primer, it makes a difference with your foundation. I am often modeling clothes for hours trying on clothes and my make-up always stays on with a good primer.
The one time I got shellac it was horrible. I was really excited because I had a groupon for a manicure AND pedicure, but I chose dumb colors for both. On my nails I thought I was getting a subtle slightly-pink but mostly neutral nail-color (if that makes sense), but instead it was just bright pink. Totally not my style. I had to scrape it all off the next day.
I like Makeup Forever products! I use Bare Minerals daily with some sort of BB cream or primer…or Loreal BB cream solo. For ‘picture opps” I use Revlon Photo Ready – makes you flawless!
i LOVE make up for ever! i use the “duo mat” compressed powder and i refuse to wear anything else. it has wonderful coverage and stays on all day!
Shellac tore my nails up just as bad as getting acrylics. Now I just use NutriNail and whatever polish I want and it stays on the same length of time and my nails are way more solid/no chipping or breaking with the NutriNail.
Normal rotation – I use Almay concealer, Bare Minerals matte/spf foundation, usually a Lorac or Victorias Secret blush/eyeshadows, and Loreal mascara.
I have a crap ton of MAC eye pigments and other random stuff but I don’t wear real makeup enough to include them in the normal rotation bag and they live under the sink in a big case.
I RARELY wear makeup….only special occasions or date nights I guess…but its not that I don’t like wearing it or putting it on…its that I want an extra 10 minutes in bed at night.
(Pathetic right…I don’t wear it b/c I don’t want to have to take it off at night!!!
Priorities??? I think so.
I use Makeup Forever foundation on my legs. I have scars all over my legs and before I found their HD foundation I NEVER wore shorts or skirts outside my house. Now I put some on my legs and I’m able to wear cute dresses and shorts when I go out at night. It makes me feel much more comfortable showing my legs. It’s a great cover!
I have a few of those workout pieces from JC Penney! I love them
Lots of great details of high-end workout items, like thumbholes, long legnth, great colors and built-in pockets for iPod, etc.
That’s so funny because I got some new makeup last night too! I have never used that brand you are talking about, but I went to Target and got a new brand called E.L.F. (really cheap so that’s a win) and I’ve heard good things about it! I also got some new concealer which is a little pricier, but it covers really well and it’s called PIXI.
I also painted my nails with a navy color from Essie but I can’t remember the name of it!
Did you get the stick kind of concealer by PIXI?? I was just looking at those and wondered if it was worth the $26.
I used it for my wedding and it was awesome. I never wear anything, so it was a big change.
Every day all day just like blonde hair don’t care. I rarely wear foundation but when I do, I ‘ve been using Maybelline F.I.T. As a woman of color, it’s been treating and matching my skin pretty well.
Eyes are my downfall. Lorac liner (will never use ANYTHING else again) and shadows. Urban Decay shadows. L’Oreal False Fiber Lashes and Million Lashes are amazing. I also use Maybelline Lash Stiletto.
I used to use the Makeup Forever HD Foundation and I loved it, but my dermatologist introduced me to glominerals concealer and powder foundation, and it’s even better!
I usually have some kind of makeup on if I leave the house too. Nothing too crazy but enough to make me look like a normal member of society! I came to realize that I don’t have that “natural beauty” thing going for me! Ha!
Those 80s looking tights are amazing. Also, I didn’t know there were Sephora’s in JCPennys.
I wear eye liner and mascara if I’m leaving the house (most of the time), but not at home. Sometimes I jazz things up if we’re going somewhere fancy (ie I’m not wearing jeans).
Is it really shorts and t-shirt warm there?
I’m terrible about wearing makeup unless I’m going to work or going out. I’m so lazy about putting it on!
I just bought Make Up Forever’s primer in green and the concealer palette in the lightest one. My face gets red sometimes so I try and keep it covered ha. I only bought these products a couple of weeks ago but I love them both! Especially the concealer.
I use the the HD foundation now and its not working out that well for me. I think I actually get better coverage out of my Garnier BB cream.
I never think to go to Penny’s but will be heading there today to pick up that sweatshirt! I have a very chilly Moustache Run in the morning! Thanks for sharing!
Ive never heard of HD, I live in a cave, I haven’t heard of very many trendy things. Nice makeup was one of the first things to go once the kids hit – as much as I love it, I couldn’t justify a $40, 1oz tube of Laura mercier tinted moisturizer, so now I wear aveeno tinted moisturizer, love it. Sometimes I do bare minerals finishing powder, or revlon. I just upgraded my mascara from cover girl to MAC, living large:) what a difference! I wear makeup a few times a week – I used to care about leaving the house without it, but not so much anymore!
Have fun in Vegas! Never been, would love to run there some day!
I wore that JC Penny tank at the gym this morning! And yeah it was like $10 bucks or something ridiculous
I don’t wear make up to the gym in the morning, but pretty much any other time I leave the house. When I don’t wear it out, people always ask me “what’s wrong?” Or “you look tired, you feeling OK?”
If I am out of the house (other than to run) I have on some mascara and a bit of coverup. But home I am barefaced. I love the shellac manis but hate having to go to the salon to take it off…the second it starts chipping I am peeling it off and tearing apart my nails :/
Just a hint instead of going for it and peeling the shellac polish off (I know, it’s hard to resist peeling it)…saturate a cotton ball in acetone nail polish remover, stick it on your nail and wrap it up in tin foil for several minutes then use a wood stick to scrape what doesn’t lift off easily…try to use a cuticle oil like solar oil when you’re done too…it’s a little better than peeling but not as satisfying…lol
Wow- I didn’t realize JCPenny had such cute workout clothes… and for so cheap! That’s definitely a major find. Thanks for sharing
I love Bare Minerals, too!
I wear make-up on the weekends when I have time. On the weekdays my mornings are just too hectic so I tend to skip.
I love Make Up Forever’s lip glosses- I bought a trio a few years back and was hooked.
I could spend HOURS in Sephora. I’ve been know to go in with a clear face just so I could sample tons of products and walk out looking like a movie star =)
I only wear makeup on Sundays for churchiness. The mascara really irritates my eyes. Do you think it’s because I’ve had it for two years?:)
I have the same kit you just got with the HD foundation, etc. I switched from MAC and so far I like it. It gives a more “dewy” look vs. a matte look. I just have breakouts still and can’t seem to get rid of them regardless of what I use! Hope you like it!
My husband was a makeup artist for the NYC Ballet as his first job out of college, and all they used on the dancers was MakeUp Forever. I also used their HD foundation for my wedding and was happy with it. Other than that, it’s Clinique all the way
I love the Sephora powder. And I’ve always loved Clinique face cream.
I use bare minerals and love it.
I tried Make Up For Ever’s foundation and primer. I love the primer (it’s lime green so it balances out any redness you may have) but didn’t really love the foundation, so I returned it for my usual Cover FX (which is the bomb).
LOVE Make Up Forever HD line. Together with its primer, you’d be amazed how well it photographs! I came across it scrambling to find foundation the day before a family photo shoot. My complexion was awful and the foundation I used for years (Prescriptives Photochrome) discontinued. Ran into the best makeup person at a Sephora in Soho and the rest is history.
I am terrible at make-up and my sister is obsessed with products, her make-up is always perfect. So I usually just use whatever she bought too much of or tried and didn’t like – I get all her left overs. It works.
Ya JC Penny has good stuff and tons of selections for workout stuff. I was surprised too but would go there over Kohls any day.
I hardly wear makeup unless I’m going out. I guess I never know what to pick at the store!
Make up forever is my favorite!! I love it because I can put just a little on and it will look like super natural, or on bad skin day I can add more and get a lot of coverage.
When I bought makeup forever a while back, they told me it was originally made for cirque de soliel performers and was totally waterproof and sweatproof. I could wear it all day and actually have makeup on at the end of the day. I loved that… just so much easier to use bare mineral I could brush on
I use bare minerals and love it. Just got sugar lip gloss/chap stick and love those.
I just started getting the gel manicures a year ago. Before that it has been I think 15 years or so since I got a manicure. Every time did I got chips and peeling. I get a gel manicure every two weeks. I do not have them file my nails. And I get opi. The shellac brand does not work as well on my nails and there are other brands. I think it totally depends on who does it and led lights works better than uv on me. I could go a month without changing but the growth looks funny to me.
I’m a Bare Minerals girl as well. Love how light the makeup feels. As for the nails I am not a fan of the shellac for two reasons: it needs to cure using UV radiation (like tanning bed) and outdoor runners have to be careful about sun exposure and skin cancer so I don’t need any more radiation than I already get outside and at work (Ortho trauma surgeon). Secondly you need industrial strength acetone to remove it which is super annoying and makes you nearly pass out trying to do it at home!
I have used the HD makeup before, but I usually use Clinique. I used the HD when I got married and liked how it looked on that day, so I bought some for everyday use. I found out not too long after that it made me break out, so I went back to the love of my life Clinique. That stuff is made for no breakouts! Love it!
Can’t wait to see your outfit for the marathon(and best of luck and have FUN by the way!)
I swear make-up maybe once/twice a week. I used to be addicted but completely weaned myself off it.
ESTEE LAUDER obsessed here. Their foundation is amazing!
I use bare minerals but I have finally realised what the lady at the make-up counter told me years ago when I first bought it is true, my skin is too dry for powder. It looks terrible by the end of the day, I need something else.
I love shellac, I even love peeling it off when it starts to chip after about 3 weeks. Though I wouldn’t recommend this, it pulls off your nails with it. I was told to get some pure acetone (hardware store) and soak in it for 10 mins to take it off if you don’t want to go back to the salon.
I have the Make Up For Ever foundation and I love it! I also use the Laura Mercier silk creme foundation which is awesome. I usually only use those two on special occassions because they’re pretty pricey. I don’t really make-up on a daily basis because all I do is workout and take care of kids and no one cares how I look.
I wear make-up pretty much everyday M-F for work. On the weekends… unless the Hubs and I are going out somewhere FANCY, I normally go w/o it.
I’ve never had a shellac mani, but I want to! I’ve heard they’re AMAZING!
No foundation type makeup here. Everything else is Urban Decay.
The Kidless Kronicles
I like the shellac manicure if I’m going to an event like a wedding or will be traveling, but removing the polish tends to damage my nails. I also find it to be time-consuming to soak my nails in the acetone nail polish remover and then scrap it off with an orange stick.
My favorite nail polish is julep (www.julep.com), which is toxin-free. It actually stays on my nails for longer than an hour without chipping. I signed up for the monthly maven subscription, and while it may not be the most practical thing ever, I just love getting box with new nail polish each month.
I usually don’t use makeup when I am at home either, but almost always when I leave the house. I use Clinique concealer and Bare Minerals for foundation and then usually the cheap(er) Sephora brand bronzer. It’s been a good combo for me
Cute JCP tops! And thankful they are affordable too. Hopefully Costco will bring back the racerback tanks soon, love those!
I’ve used the Makeup Forever HD Foundation in the past. I really liked it, I just have A.D.D when it comes to beauty products so I’m always trying new things. I use Chanel foundation right now. It’s called Vitalumiere Aqua. It’s fantastic. I wear makeup most days. I take a break some days though.
I’m really impressed with the JC Penny clothes, will have to go to the closest penny asap!
I used to use only bare minerals and loved it, but have been experimenting with makeup a lot more in the last year. I stopped liking Bare Mineral as much and wanted to try to learn how to use something other than just face powder and mascara.
Right now, I really love urban decay pencil liners and eye shadows, makeup forever hd finish powder, tarte blush, missha bb cream, bare minerals stroke of light (undereye illuminator), revlon lip butter, and nars lip pencil. A bunch of those I got as samples from sephora when I bought other things I didn’t like as much. I’m not brand loyal at all.
Still haven’t found the perfect mascara.
Bare Minerals is the best for me, I hate wearing make-up, but I don’t want to scare people.. Lol. I’ve never had shellac done, I bought my own gel polishes and uv lamp so I can do my own nails
I bought Make up forever last summer, it was ok but never really looked just right…..I have worn Bare Minerals, Mac, Bobbie Brown….they were all good but not quite perfect. I heard lots of good things about BB creams and thought I should try them but never thought it would be a “foundation”…..guess again!!! L’oreal BB cream is AMAZING….I LOVE it…put on in the morning and it lasts all day, no greasy makeup on my collars, hands, etc. This stuff is fabulous! and only $10.00….
I love shellac! It’s basically the only thing that stops me from chewing off all my nails and cuticles. Normal manicures last approximately 1.5 days on me, so shellac is the only way to go.
I only wear make up when I’m in the office or out for glam dinners, events, functions. Have a combo of MAC, Maybelline, Loreal, Boots No7, Sakura, Sasa, some Korean and Japanese ones.
I don’t wear foundation or powder, but I put a little concealer under my eyes because I have dark circles. The only one I’ve found that you can’t tell is concealer is the 1.39 Wet n Wild stick! So that’s what I use! My skin finally settled down last year (acne in my late 20′s, ugh!) so I don’t need much else – but even when I had acne I never used foundation because I don’t like how it feels on my skin. I’m so picky!
I had a no chip manicure, and I LOVED it, until I decided I didn’t want it anymore, and my weak nails were trashed.
I have used bare minerals, but wasn’t impressed. I see a lot of people here love it, maybe I didn’t apply it right or something.
That Makeup Forever HD powder is AWESOME! Seriously, you will fall in love. I switch back and forth between Bare Minerals (I’ve used it for like 5+ years and it never gets cakey…ever) but I splurged on this Givenchy HD foundation half a year ago and it is pretty amazing: http://www.sephora.com/photo-perfexion-fluid-foundation-spf-20-pa-P235346?skuId=1162247
I would imagine it is similar to the Makeup Forever HD foundation. They just are a lot more full coverage than I’m used to, so I never cover my entire face with it unless it is a full makeup kind of night!
