Before and After (and smartphones)

by SkinnyRunner on November 30, 2012

I told you in the last post that I bought some of the HD Make Up For Ever and I tried it out this morning for the first time.

I’m not sure if I totally love it forever, but I think I need to give it awhile and see how I like it.

Oh lordy, the Before:

The After:

SMARTPHONES FOR THE NOT QUITE SO SMART

So I finally got a smartphone a couple weeks ago…

The Verizon Turd has officially gone to heaven.  or possibly the Smithsonian, it was so old.

I bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 and I kept my service with Verizon.  I almost switched to Sprint but decided at the last minute to go with the slightly more expensive but better coverage at the big V.

So I pretty much don’t know how to do anything on the new phone – I need serious help.  Is anyone a Galaxy S3 genius out there who could answer a couple questions?

What are the best apps to download?

I’m clueless and don’t know what to use.

My friend Kirsten told me to check out the PicFrame app which makes photo collages.  Any other suggestions?

I believe Meghann (Meals and Miles) has a Samsung Galaxy S3, and I bet she could help you with any questions.

I would definitely get Instagram and there is another pic collage app called InstaCollage. Yelp app, if you like to read restaurant reviews like I do.

Sorry….I have an iPhone but I sure do love my Verizon service! I use Facebook and Twitter a ton on my phone but those are pretty basic…I bet there are some neat running apps? (I really fail at being a smart phone owner…womp womp).

If android has Stumbleupon, you gotta get there. Put running as an interest, and you won’t sleep for several days.

I just did a 3 month review of the S3, if you search my blog for “verizon” you will find several posts with my favorite cool features of the phone!

Definitely download a flashlight app of some sort! It is works like an actual flashlight and is great when you and fumbling for keys or searching for your dog in the dark :)

The make-up def evens your skin tone. You’re so pretty- stinker! ;) Is it a matte foundation or powder? I prefer the matte look- I get greasy err the “dewy” look on my own..

Def download Blogger- or did you go on WP? I blog from my phone.. or try to.. LOL

I can’t offer much advice as I am an Apple on AT&T..

Good Luck chica!

Cozi is awesome for shopping lists. You can access them from phone or computer and if everyone in the family has the app you share an account and everyone can add things to the list. It’s awesome when my hubby goes grocery shopping cuz I can add things real time while he’s there. :)
Another great one is Evernote. You can store all sorts of things: notes, links, pics. It’s another one then that you can access from phone or computer. I send a lot of links for recipes to it so I don’t lose them or I’ll keep a note for movies I want to watch or christmas gift ideas for the family.

Instagram, twitter, FB (all standard), Pinterest, Foursquare… And if you travel a lot, you can get the delta/southwest apps to book flights and check-in. I obviously don’t go anywhere with my phone.

I have the s2 and the hubs has the s3, I like picsart for photo collages. And if you haven’t used Google Navigation it’s pretty awesome.

I just got an S3 a month ago! I love it! What do you want to know? The Waze app tells you where cops are on the road and how long with traffic it takes to get places.
Map my run is great..so is Mint to keep track of your $$.
Google’s Play Music app is awesome..it takes your music from the computer and uploads it to your google account and you can listen to everything over wifi (phone or computer), and download certain songs for play later.
And the social media must haves like Pinterest and Instagram!

I’m glad that I am not the only one that was still holding onto their old crappy phone. I still have an old slider from like 2009…not sure why I haven’t gotten a smart phone yet. My plan is up at the end of december and I am getting one then…so excited but I am going to be such a dummy when i get it!

I use a BB but I guess these are the most used apps that most of us use (regardless of smartphone types): facebook, twitter, whatsapp

I have an S3 and love it. Instagram for sure. Evernote. Wordpress. Dropbox. IMDB. Groupon. Netflix. OpenTable. Reader(Google). TweetCaster. MyDays (for period tracking…gotta love it.) ;-)
have fun, its a cool phone. If you want to take a screen shot just swipe the side of your hand over the screen from right to left. Pretty sweet.

You look great as always! I really like the make-up on you!
The first ever foundation I’ve used was Estee Lauder 2 years ago..and I haven’t dared strayed away!

You must get Shazam – will tell you the name of any song. I also you “Map my Run” to track my running and in place of a GPS watch. Works perfect. Urbanspoon for food suggestions, groupon, and my favorite game is “Where’s My Water”. Good luck and try to get the most out of your phone! You paid a fortune might as well enjoy it!

Omg Amazon!! You can scan things out while you are shopping and it will find the price for you on amazon and you can set it up to buy with one click! I have amazon prime so this I’d very dangerous. Kids need crayons- boom. Sometimes in 24 hours.
I also love mapmyrun, fb, Pinterest, and blogger and ETSY of course.
I’m liking hearing about the collage apps! I haven’t gotten into Instagram yet but I’m making collages on google drawings and editing them on google plus! *dork*

I have PicFrame and like it. Zillow, Starbucks, Amazon. Any of the ones that will scan a barcode.

My husband has the S3 and LOVES it. Like, a little too much. We went on a cruise last week though and seriously, EVERY TIME he pulled it out, someone asked him ‘Is that the S3? Do you like it?’ He got asked those questions several times a day. Which probably makes him feel cool and explains why he treats that phone better than me.

I have no suggestions though as I always struggle when I try and use his phone and can barely use the much less stellar phone I have. I am awesome like that. Good luck!

here are some apps i use quite often:
-Zedge (the funniest and greatest ringtones lol)
-Pandora
-Endomondo (great fitness app, tracks running etc)
-Music Player (download your music from computer to phone and use this to play them)
-Music download (not sure if that’s the correct name but that’s what i typed in the app search bar. Can get almost any song you want)
-Ringdroid (make your own ringtones)
-Backgrounds and wallpaper app (that’s what i typed in search bar great wallpapers)
-Flashlight app (this is awesome, you just click on it when you need a flashlight and your whole screen turns in to one.)
-Handscent (i use this to text. Way better texting than what your phone comes with.)

Hope this helps ya! :) The more you play around with your phone the more comfortable you will get :)

The makeup looks great (but you looked fine with out it too)

Bummer…I must be the last gal with only text and calling abilities on my phone…maybe 2013 will be my turn to upgrade…then, you can help me with the app world. ;-)

Congrats on your smartphone :) I have had one for forever and still barely know how to do anything on it. Also I switched from an Iphone to a Droid Lucid and even though I hate to say it, I would go back to an Iphone right now if I could. Instagram is an amazing fun app which I just started using.

Some apps: Evernote for taking notes, anydo for a to-do list, Flipboard or Pulse for aggregate web readers, Google play books and kindle for reading, MX player for videos, shazam, Crosswords for fun and crossword solver for cheating, angry birds, runkeeper, interval timer, instagram, google maps and navigation, flashlight, mirror!, my days, simple calendar widget, you’ll get the hang of it eventually…

Here are some of my favorite Android apps:
Evernote – for taking notes on my phone or PC
BBC News
Amazon – for adding things to my wishlist, I don’t purchase through it – that could be dangerous!
Battery info – widget that displays the percent left on my battery
Bible – has great reading plans and many translations
IMDB – for movie, actor info
Instant Heart Rate – it uses the camera to measure your heartrate!
Mileage – keeps track of gas prices, mpg
MySword for Android – has different Bible translations and commentaries, similar to eSword on a PC
SwiftKey – a keyboard app that has amazing predictive text!
The Weather Channel
TeslaLED – flashlight that uses the camera’s flash – much brighter than using the screen!
