WORKOUT -
Ran outside -
11.5 miles/1:25
harder effort, mostly flat with a couple small hills
Man, I felt good running today. I ran 1o miles in 1:14 and then a cool down mile and a half in 11 minutes.
I don’t know if it was taking a rest day yesterday, eating an energy bar beforehand, the lack of humidity or the new energy supplement (sounds a little kooky, I know) I was sent that I tried today, but it felt good to run hard.
Just because it was a great run doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard: I kept telling myself to “Get uncomfortable” and “Don’t fall back into comfortable”.
In other news, if I’m ever lost, there’s a really good chance I’ll be found in compression socks, 26.2 gear, and a BIC band.
By the way, reader Marlena alerted me about the ActiveGearUp (the company formerly known as Prince Schwaggle) deal on Pro Compression: 50% off! Check it out here.
Speaking of Pro Compression, they are sponsoring me to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon this Sunday, and I’ll be at their expo booth #336 Saturday afternoon around 2pm hanging out. (The expo is at the Sands Convention Center.)
So if you’re in town, come by, say hi and make me feel like less of a loser than I normally am. thanks ![]()
Last year I ran the race and got pretty stressed out over the lack of corral enforcement so this year I’m going to run purely for fun. It will be my last and 15th marathon of the year so to make sure it’s just a fun run, I’m running in costume… my favorite thing to do!
Now I just have to make the darn thing…

I will come visit you! How exciting! This will be my very first 1/2 marathon and my 2nd ever race, so I am pretty stoked about it. I am running with the CCFA Team Challenge (Colorado Springs team), and I think our team is scheduled to pick up our bibs around 1:45 or so, so I will come say hello. : )
awesome!
I’m doing RnRLV as my first marathon this weekend! I will try to stop by and say Hi on Saturday. It would be so awesome to meet you!
Looking forward to seeing your costume. Red & gold seem like good Vegas colors.
thanks!
Good luck on your FIRST marathon! I wanted to do the full, but I heard they are pretty strict about the 4:20 cut off time. So I’ll be sticking with the half
I’m excited to see what your costume is!
I’d love to come see you! My husband and I are running the half marathon. I started reading your blog after seeing you on The Hungry Runner Girl. I read about you running the marathon in Eugene (where I live) and hoped that I could meet you in 2013 at the Eugene, but perhaps I’ll see you this weekend! Your running inspires me! I ran my fastest 6 mile run on Sunday, because I want to be as fast as you and The Hungry Runner Girl! Hope I see you!
thats awesome about your 6 miler. and hrg is the sweetest, nicest person alive
Hi SR,
need any costume making help from afar?
Quick question – do you always run in compression socks (race and training)? How long do you leave them on for when you stop?
I’ve just started my running again – after that op on my knee I’m training with a coach and running my first 10km in feb 2013 and building up to my first half marathon in August 2013!!!
no i dont always run in them for training but i did sleep in them last night and then run in them. i just wear them whenever i feel like, if its cold out, if my legs feel a little sore, tired or dead or if i have a race coming up. i change out of my socks once im done bc i have athletes foot and a wet sock will pretty much be the death of me. gross but true.
question: how do i make a cape? i have fabric but how do i secure it and to what? should i glue like a piece of velcro on it or make a necklace to go around my neck?
What about trying to use similar tape to what you used to make your minnie mouse skirt nd secure it to what ever top you will wear.
Maybe when I move to the states I can be the SR Marathon costume maker
Thank for the info re socks. I didn’t run in them yesterday when I ran nearly 10km (not far I know but the furthest so far this time around for me) but I did put them on when I got home and left them on for a while.
I would advise against the tie around the neck thing. I think that that will end up driving you bananas after a while. I would suggest tacking on two small snaps in front of each shoulder to attach the cap. That way there is nothing pulling on your throat.
It’s because of your readers notes recently that got me to the Pro compression site! I just ordered my first pair(purple). I am WAY too excited to get them. I definitely need some excitement in my life if this is what it takes to get me hyped! ha!
Me too TorontoRunner!! I just ran in the socks today for the first time and I am IN LOVE!!! I just emailed my husband and told him to order me 2 more pairs for Christmas with the above discount! I have always run in the sleeves, but the socks are SO much better in my opinion!
oooh, so glad you like them!! I’m in Canada(hence the name, haha!) and unfortunately shipping cost 16 dollars. grrrr! I’m mentioning that because I TOTALLY should have ordered 2(or more)..but I decided against it at the time. completely regretting it now!!
TorontoRunner – email us we will take care of the shipping if you would like more. You would just buy them from us direct (same discount) instead of the Active deal site.
Eric,
Do you do international shipping? I’ve been hesitant about buying because shipping across the globe may or less wipe out whatever savings/discounts.
Sue, Yes we do. send us a email info@procompression.com and we will get you set up. It is really inexpensive.
OMG I can’t wait to see your costume! Enjoy the run
Gonna go order some low Pro’s!
Wish I was closer to stop by the booth to say hi! So nice that your being sponsored by pro compression!
Can’t wait to see your costume! :c) Congrats on you 15th Marathon this year….your amazing….and a complete inspiration to so many.
And thanks for the info on the sale…I’m off to get another pair!
What energy supplement are you trying out?!? Ive been looking for a good one on long work/ school days!!!
15 in 12 months?! You’re a beast! I have never run in a costume but imagine it would drive me nuts.
THANK YOU for passing along the ProCompression sale. I ordered a pair of socks when you posted the last deal. I’ve always worn the sleeves, but I ran in the socks today and LOVE them!
This will be my first time trying compression socks (compression “anything”, really). Looking forward to trying them! I thought the deal was too good to pass up & share with others.
Hope the 15th is a lot of fun for you!!!
Do you already have a goal for how many you plan to run in 2013?
no goals at this point but id definitely like to run a 3:10 sometime in jan/feb.
Question for anyone with ridiculous large, muscular calves…have you tried the ProCompression socks and do they actully stay up?
Yes they will stay up…if not we will take them back!
I would totally come by, I’m running the half on Sunday, but our flight doesn’t land till almost 5pm!
Hope to see you around in Vegas!
I am also running in costume…look for a light-up rainbow tu-tu!
You can see it here – http://www.solanaleigh.com/2012/11/28/beast-mode-tu-tu/
Any chance you’ll tell us which new energy supplement you’ve been trying out?
I don’t know, I have to try it out for awhile and see what I think of it first.
I saw the 50% off deal this morning, ordered some purple socks and sent a text to my husband telling him, I ordered a Christmas present from him to me
Dang! Fifteen marathons this year! That’s awesome
Wish I could meet you, but I’ll be running my second marathon in Sacramento this Sunday. Hope you have lots of fun!
I’m running the half!! We plan on going when the expo opens but ill look for you if we go later!!
I’ll be running my first half in Vegas this Sunday! Good luck to everyone running
I’ve heard from a friend that marathon is cah-razy packed, which would be fun for me because I’m slow and dodging people keeps me distracted from the pain, but I imagine it’d be pretty frustrating for you. Good luck and can’t wait to see the costume!
Yay! I had a great run today too!! All the stars were aligned for us! I mean, it was totally the supplements.
The corral experience at RNR Miami Beach wasn’t too bad, just volunteers holding ropes where runners walked over them if need be. But hey, different race different place. Good luck!
Just because it was a great run doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard: I kept telling myself to “Get uncomfortable” and “Don’t fall back into comfortable”.
This quote sums up so much more me. I am always trying to stay uncomfortable and push myself to the limits. It is entirely against our nature to continually push. I think that is why runners and athletes are the vast minority in this country.
Thanks for a great post.
Totally wish I didn’t live in boring Indiana so I could come see you! Best of luck in your race- have lots of fun and live it up. Hopefully it goes better than last time.
Question for you: do you/have you ever used any sort of anti-chafe products?
Ooh, I can’t wait to see the costume!
I wish we were headed to Vegas R&R this weekend! I ran the half in 2009 and the hubs ran the full…the only way I can beat him to the finish is if I run half as far. thanks so much, I’m hooked on pro compression and I hate socks! and I only run (slowly) in capri’s so I look really really awesome! (I can only get away with that look if I’m out of town so no-one I know will see me)… totally off subject…I know you love Jesus, not sure if you know of JJ Heller, but she loves Jesus too, sings like an angel, is young and inspirational (much like you) and is running her first half marathon in LA in January with team World Vision…here’s her little blog…http://seejjrun.wordpress.com/ she’s running for clean water in Sudan, something every runner appreciates and mostly take for granted! Have fun in Las Vegas!
If I am still there, I will come say Hi. I paced a friend for her first half marathon at the IMS in Feb. and I saw you for a few seconds when you ran by us. Yes, you finished the full before we did the half. I had so much fun running it with her at her pace though. Vegas was my first race ever last year & will be my 6th half this year. I’m training for my 1st full in January. Do you know if we can get the same discount on the pro compression socks at the expo? I would love to be able to have them on Sat. and not have to wait for shipping.
I’m not sure but I don’t think they will be on that much of a super sale but they might be on sale.
I’m doing race day pickup or else I would totally come see you! I’m in love with my Pro Compression socks – I even wear them after hours at work. I know, I know, how can my co-workers handle all the sexy that I bring to work everyday.
Hopefully I can spot you (and the mystery costume) out on the course. Have a great race!
I can’t log into the site to get the socks! I will keep trying rhough. I HATE things around my neck, esp when I run so if I were making a cape instead of going around the neck I would make it go around my arms. Like two loops that will rest on your shirt and go under your arm pits… That’s my suggestion. I can’t wait to see it. I’ve been reading for awhile, first time commenting!
Any other races for the rest of the year after vegas? 21km? 10km? Xmas runs?
Looking forward to seeing your costume, have fun in Vegas!
15 marathons in a year…you are CRAZY!! Love it. Have a great ‘fun run’
I was debating whether or not to run the LV Race, but I heard such awful reviews last year that I decided to pass until maybe next year. Hope it’s fun and much better organized. And I can’t wait to see what you create for your costume, they’re always so cute!
Holy smokes- that came fast. Is it really going to be December? SO awesome Pro Compression is sponsoring you! Wish I was running and could come hang at the booth with you! Good luck!!! Can’t wait to see the costume.
way to kick butt out there! u’ve been doing so well at forcing urself to get uncomfortable and that mental training has been paying off in ur marathons…u’re consistently clocking those faster times, able to going out faster and not getting so ‘afraid’ of then how much more the second half will hurt. pretty much just telling the legs to man up.
great job and good luck for the next one EVEN though u’re going in not in ‘gamer’ mode because of the crappy corral enforcement, it is still 26 miles, so good luck, have fun, and most importantly have a kick@$$ costume.
YAY! I just arrived in Vegas today and I’ll definitely stop by to see you on Saturday! I’m running the full, too.
I will be there to see you! Once I met Hal Higdon at a race and nearly passed out I was so excited. So, if I’m celebrity-struck, don’t be surprised
I wish I could come and visit you. Las Vegas half is on my race bucket list, i don’t think I could run a marathon at night. I have walked one throughout the night, it was a little bit miserable!! Good luck, can’t wait to see your outfit!
Did you also experience the mess after the race and the illness that so many seemed to? I hope they have that straightened out this year.
The Kidless Kronicles
we didn’t. we left pretty much right after the race and walked to another hotel and had a celebratory drink so we really missed the overcrowded taxi waiting mess that was at the finish. and i never got sick. my whole deal was just during the race. but i did have friends like beth from shutupandrun.net who got sick and got caught in all the people; i want to say it took her a couple hours to get back to the hotel.
LOVE the tank. Thanks for sharing the link…and it is on sale! So I went and bought myself an early Christmas present
Good luck this weekend!
Can you share what kind of supplement you are using?
I dont want to yet because I just started taking it and I’m not exactly sure what I think of it quite yet. I want to take it for a bit and see how I feel and if it makes any difference, is worth the money, etc.
I was hoping you’d come use my bib and run the Fiesta Half for me Sunday. I have a jacked up back and can’t see the doctor until next week. Bummer!! I want to at least walk it but it’s not looking to good.
Check out my ‘Before & After’ pics from this last Motivate Me Monday post….kinda gross I got so big. Crazy how I didn’t realize how big I looked. 20 lbs. down, 10 more to go.
We will stop by to visit you! We are flying in on Saturday and heading straight to the expo. Such a fan of your blog and looking forward to meeting you before the race! Can’t wait for the race!
I’ll be there too, my FIRST one!! Very excited.
I can’t believe it’s already the end of the year! What a great way to finish off with a bang. Good luck and enjoy being in Vegas!
When I grow up, I want to be just like Skinny Runner! 15th marathon of the year?! Love love love it! I would do more, if someone would pay for my travel and entry! hahaha, who wouldn’t?!
Curious curious curious about what you have in that bag…and what you will dress up as!
I won’t be in LV in Dec. but I will be in Feb for the Color Run. I just wanted to tell you that you and some of your Sister Bloggers have inspired me to run. I just wanted to say thanks! It’s never to late to start…
I am officially upset now that my flight doesnt come in till 4:30 on saturday. I told my husband how excited I was that all the bloggers I read would be in Vegas…. Even tho I am way too awkward and will probably just point and tell him when I see you guys
yep awkward me
Have an amazing race…Im running my first half… so excited!
I’m running the half and am totally going to try to come by and meet you. I’m dressing up too, as the cookie monster! haha!
