Get on your high {healthy} horse

by SkinnyRunner on November 26, 2012

WORKOUT -

Ran outside -

8.45 miles/1:10

nice and easy,

flat but humid

This weekend we went to a Christmas play in Houston called the Sanders Family Christmas performed by the A.D. Players.

2012-11-25_1720

The actors were pretty killer: besides acting (obviously), they sang and played instruments.  They were like a bluegrass band slash actors slash comedians.  no one-trick ponies here.

20121125_140840 (800x406)

show

We also had just a smidge of dessert from Buca di Beppo

buca

{“Twelve decadent chunks of freshly-baked brownies layered with six scoops of vanilla bean and chocolate ice cream, topped with caramel and chocolate sauces then buried in mounds of whipped cream – and we won’t forget the cherry!”}

I had never been to Buca before and they have great Italian food – it’s family style so the plates are so big, they could lethally harm a small animal.  And their salads were surprisingly good too; everything was.  But honestly, how can you go wrong with 12 brownies and 6 scoops of ice cream?!

SADDLE UP THE HEALTHY HORSE

If you’re coming back from an indulgent, long weekend (and really, who isn’t?) and wanting to get back on track and back on the healthy horse, do it today.  Don’t wait until next Monday, after Christmas, or January 1st.  It’s never too late to make great decisions today and you’re never too old (or young)…

Reader Donna emailed me recently: she and her 14 year old daughter Raye started running last year and had planned on running the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio half marathon together until Donna got injured.

But Raye wanted to do it with or without Mom, and she ran her first half marathon by herself at the age of 14.  Congrats Raye!

That’s a sweet deal on the Garmin. I may have to pick one up. Pro Compression is 50% off via Active Gear Up (formerly Schwaggle.com). You have to be a subscriber to get the deal.

I can’t imagine being motivated enough at age 14 to run a half! I’m so jealous.

I totally agree with you on getting back on track with healthy eating TODAY! You really end up feeling so much better right away, and end up with just a weekend of indulging rather than weeks.

Wow, congrats to Raye!! Pretty amazing!

I love plays and live shows. I can never enjoy movies after I’ve been to a good show!
It’s crazy to think that you’re running in humid weather and I’m just soooooo cold these days up north!

The hubs and I got a new laptop! We have been in the market for a new computer for a while now so we thought, why not get one when we can get a great deal!

That is totally his department though so he picked it out and I have no clue what brand he chose, all I know is that it works and that’s enough for me :)

Yeah, isn’t it ridiculous how humidity really does make a difference when running??

Congrats to Raye on her half marathon!

I recently read an article about a ridiculously fast set of young sisters…one is 12 and ran a 1:28 marathon or something crazy fast like that. Not sure how I feel about their story because it sounds like the dad puts a LOT of pressure. It’s a long article, but it’s a good read for a slow day:

We dirty girls got emails for Warrior Dash (all races on sale for $35) and Spartan Race ($25 off with code CYBER25).
My husband bought me some Pro compression socks through the Active GearUp offer; I can’t wait to get them. The “surprise” part of them, since they’re a Christmas present, was that he got to pick the colors.
Team Tough Chik has free shipping tomorrow with code CANDYCANE.
That’s all I can remember that hasn’t been mentioned.

Warrior Dash is $35 for all cities during 2013. No code needed…when you finish registration you’re charged $35 and a processing fee…I think mine was $42 and some change.
