Celebrity schools and portable toilets: all in a weekend of fun

by SkinnyRunner on November 19, 2012

WORKOUT -

(yesterday)

Ran outside in

Calabasas -

7.0 miles/60 mins

easy pace, hills

I love to travel and with all the races I’ve done lately (5 in as many weeks), we haven’t had many free weekends so you’d think that when this weekend was open, we’d stay home…

Nope, we headed north of LA to spend it with friends.

I started the day off with a short run; my girlfriend and I actually both went running at different times and didn’t know the other one was out running.

009 (800x364)

{A quiet, early morning run enjoying the fall colors and taking way too many pictures of the leaves}

PicMonkey Collage

I kept the pace nice and relaxed while trugging up and down the hills of Calabasas.  Canyon country is hilly, who would have thought?!

And being the supreme celeb stalker that I am, I had to snap a pic of the private elementary Scientologist school that Will Smith started and funds and Suri Cruise went to:

007 (800x447)

{My celeb knowledge knows no bounds. and no shame.}

Besides leaf pictures and random celeb facts, the weekend included the best homemade pizza… ham and black olives for the win.

019 (800x644)

And cupcakes.

We made pumpkin cupcakes with maple cream cheese frosting with this recipe; they were good but not great.

The maple syrup in the frosting made it a little runny and sorta just weird.  I thought I’d die over the frosting, but I was a little underwhelmed by it.  Still ate a turdload of it though like a boss.

Tell me something you did this weekend.

I’ll tell you something Marni did: she hung out in a toilet.

Don’t worry, the walker/toilet thing was brand new and unused… or it was before she got in there.

Well your cupcakes look good! We also made homeade pizza this weekend with ham, spinach, onions and mushrooms. I also squeezed in a few training runs. Enjoy your Monday!

I had a great run with my running group on Saturday morning. Seriously, those girls gave out SWAG bags like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve got tons of hair product samples, race flyers, recipes, and everyone got a Bondi Band. Those girls rock!

Then a smaller group of us running gals got together to eat at Pappadeaux’s and pretty much negated all the calorie burning we did in the morning. And we had (grocery store) cupcakes. :-)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Pappadeauxs and the swampthing drink.

That’s a nice and relaxed weekend! I have a bit of an obsession on cupcake designs, those look great!

My Sunday consisted of a loooot of football watching and AMA’s last night because I like to think I’m a fashion critic! ha!

I am really sorry that you like olives. The cupcakes look amazing. I ate 12 cookies yesterday.

Ha! I thought the same thing. No olives :)

awesome that you were able to have a more relaxing weekend. mine was pretty quiet too. ran a half marathon on saturday morning as a training run, but it was local so i could spend the rest of the weekend lounging on my couch.

Hahaha I love Marni’s face in the pic! She looks so guilty!

I went to Kiawah Island, South Carolina this weekend for my friends birthday. It’s a beautiful place on the beach, but unfortunately the weather was really crappy the entire time.

I want some pizza and cupcakes and Marni and toilet!

Okay, not the toilet. Or the olives.

Why do you have a toilet walker thing?? lol, that is hilarious.

Went to the University of GA/Georgia Southern football game in Athens. Apparently we thought we were still college students and had Waffle House for breakfast on Sunday. At least it wasn’t at 2 AM!

I have to bring a few desserts to Thanksgiving dinner and those cupcakes are it! But I say that about anything with cream cheese frosting.

The husband has been on Long Island restoring power so my weekend was spent playing single mommy to 3 gremlins. Wish I could get a run in but the treadmill is buried in the basement!

Oh, the pizza looks good! The only cupcakes I will go near are ones with copious amounts of chocolate. and that whole Scientology school completely intrigues me – had no clue will smith was a scientologist – goes to show blogs are educational.

Did you use real maple syrup or just the Aunt Jemima stuff? you probably needed the hardcore expensive stuff. totally different worlds of maple syrup.

Im Canadian. I would know

Reply

SkinnyRunner November 19, 2012 at 1:24 pm

we actually used organic maple syrup, it was like $9 a bottle! had it been me on my own, i woulda gone with the fake stuff – it tastes so good! or just like sugar, really.

We actually had our Thanksgiving meal yesterday. I know it sounds weird but I’m on call thursday and my parents didn’t want me to miss out on the feast so they rearranged everything so I can celebrate T-day :)

I love olives on pizza! I’m glad you mentioned that the toilet was never used. The germaphobe in me was cringing at first, but Marni did look pretty darn cute! In fact, I’m pretty sure she’s the only dog that could pull off cute sitting in a toilet! :)

Reply

SkinnyRunner November 19, 2012 at 1:53 pm

yeah thatd be pretty nast if it was used, agreed.

The fall leaves are SO pretty!! I ran the Brooklyn Marathon this weekend which was 9 laps around a park up the street from my house… surprisingly it was pretty awesome!

I think cupcakes are the hardest thing to make really well. Everytime I try to make them, I’m somewhat disappointed. Buying them is so much easier. ;) There’s a guy at our church who makes amazing cupcakes, and right now he has a ‘brown sugar cupcake with maple frosting and bacon.’ Sounds weird, but it is ah-mazing!

I spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday driving home from Agoura Hills, just down the road from Calabasas! Love that area! I can’t wait to go back. As for celebrity stalking, you weren’t very far from the Biggest Loser Ranch which we stalked and I got a pic of Jillian. I was so excited! You should also try Sweet Arleen’s bakery in Westlake for cupcakes. I could drive all the way back there just for another oreo cupcake!!

I actually ran the Hot Chocolate Columbus 15K yesterday. This was my farthest distance and completed in my “secret” goal time…less than 2 hours. 1:58:41….ya, I’m a speed demon! Finishing gave me the needed confidence to tackle the 3 halfs I’ve signed up for.
