There are a lot of different ways to donate to Hurricane Sandy relief… I told you about the Virtual Run yesterday (only $10).
And I’m donating all proceeds from my SR shirts; (here’s details) I already have $193 to go to the Red Cross NY!
Now let’s talk about a way to help out and shop at the same time, my favorite thing of all:
BIC Bands and I have created a limited edition set of three bands that are on sale now with a portion of proceeds going to hurricane relief charities.
{And no, they don’t slip or slide or move. I’ve run many marathons with the bands and have never had an issue.}
The set:
I like the linen look of the Minnie Denim band – I chose it because I wanted one band that didn’t look athletic – it still holds in place and doesn’t move as if you’re running a marathon but isn’t as sporty or athletic looking.
It’s great for those days when you don’t wash your hair but are out and about… so pretty much everyday for me.
The next band I chose was the Thin Pink and Blue Chevron print; who doesn’t love a cute chevron print?!
My sister-in-law did her nursery in green, white and grey with green chevron accents and it’s adorable, almost as cute as my dog. almost.
{I wore this band for the Chicago Marathon along with a clearance hat from Target that just happened to match. winning.}
And the last band in the set is the Big Bling hot pink/fuchsia sparkle that I wore in yesterday’s marathon:
I put on makeup for races, I wear way too much pink and own an ungodly number of running skirts and I’m so down with it because I think that when you feel good, you run good (sorry English teachers, “well”) so if you like sparkles and pink and looking a little girly, go for it.
You can still gut it out during the last six miles of a marathon and sweat like a dude but look like a chick. And sparkles are just fun… no one’s ever said that about a jockstrap.
The three bands separately cost $37, but they’re on sale for $30 for all three with $1 from every band going to hurricane relief charities for the month of November.
This is something Sandy has done since she started BIC bands; it’s not just a recent thing. love that. Also love supporting a small business – BIC Bands started in Sandy’s garage as a means to raise money for a race charity.
And because Sandy’s a stud, she’s said that if you already have the hot pink sparkle band, you can request a different sparkle color in your order.
So you get three different styles and different width bands on sale with money going to hurricane relief. boom.
With Christmas coming up, a band or the set might be great for your running partner, a neighbor, a Secret Santa gift, your kid’s teacher, stocking stuffers, etc. I personally think my dad’s going to love the fuchsia Big Bling.
There’s a limited number of this set and sale and as far as I know, once it’s sold out these bands won’t be available again.
Once last thing: if you have a Minnie band like this one (one of my favorites), you can layer it over a thicker band for a new look:
{Crappy photography, yes, but if you came here for the photography, you’ve got bigger issues.}
Get your shop on here; thanks!
And if you’re doing some sort of fundraiser for a charity, let me know about it in the comments.

Nice to see so many people helping out! Thanks for helping out New York appreciates it!!
Love BIC bands!
Just bought the bands, THANK YOU for supporting the hurricane victims!
thank YOU, not me!
Love those bands, and love that she always donates money to a worthy cause.
Glad you posted this today because I was headed to her website to order some more bands this morning! I am still shocked every time I put one on that it doesn’t move. Anytime I have tried to wear the around-the-head bands in the past, they have always shot off the back of my head as soon as I started moving or swallowed. Not the bic band. It’s magic.
Just ordered the Bic Bands. I’ve been wanting some for awhile, I’m glad I waited till now so some money will go to a good cause! Thanks, SR!
I concur. I have been waiting (and stalking the site) for them to go on sale. And the fact that these support a good cause is a double-win. Yay, SR!
this is awesome…been wanting to order some of these and this was the perfect excuse. can’t wait to get them.
You are too funny! Love your blog and I’m going to get some bic bands!
This is awesome. Go SkinnyRunner! I’m definitely getting these bicbands!
BOOM! Ordered the bands. Layering the bands? That’s like having a NEW band. Only a genius would think of that…wait, or someone who isn’t very intelligent to think of doing it (ME!)! Thanks SR!
so dont tell anyone but i might have stole that idea from someone else. but ill totally take cred for it
I’ve really been wanting to get some BIC bands because I always wear headbands and they usually slide back after a big (perhaps my head shape is unusual??).
Thanks for this sale!
I just bought some yesterday, darn. Should’ve waited.
Thank you for providing so many different ways to help!
The Kidless Kronicles
thanks for helping me with my Christmas shopping! putting together a runner’s themed gift for my ballerina turned yogi turned runner. Already received the “heartstooth” Runningskirts running skirt…just ordered the bicbands set (thanks for putting this together – I was having a hard time choosing which fantastic colors/prints)…now, I wait to see what Procompression has coming on special…if someone happened to see her running in January she might be mistaken for you…oh, except she’s a brooks girl.
Tammi,
Pro compression has the argyle socks 40% off right now. Code – SOM112
BOOM! ordered pink argyle! Thanks!

I’ve had my eyes on these for a while – perfect excuse to finally buy them!
How cute! My office is matching dollar for dollar up to $5K if we donate $ to the redcross so I’m planning a hefty donation this afternoon! Also, I got the procompression argyle discount this morning! I can’t wait to run in them
I just placed my order! So excited for the BIC Bands and excited to help out the Red Cross in any way I can.
thank you!
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been wanting to try these. Hope they’ll arrive in time for my race this weekend!! Any word on when the Pro Compression sale will be??
its coming out TODAY, i just dont have the code yet but when i do, ill let everyone know.
Well… I’m not… but my awesome friend Carolyn ran her own personal marathon on Saturday for NY! She is a former NYCer, and was supposed to do NYC as her first full ever, and she ran 26.2 on Saturday all on her own, asking her friends to donate $2.62, $26.20, or even $262.00 to a relief fund of their choice in honor of her race. I am so proud of her… did her first marathon all alone, and is encouraging people to give at the same time. Here’s the article from her local paper: http://www.newstimes.com/local/article/Danbury-woman-runs-for-Sandy-relief-4007168.php She’s on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/CarolynRunsForNYC/
that is awesome and a POSITIVE way to run and do something.
Will I be as fast as you if I wear the same bic bands?
you might chafe as much as i do. omg my armpits/armflaps were on fire yesterday!
*sigh*
2 days *after* I buy 3 Bic Bands…
Still a great deal/cause. Thanks for sharing!
ahhhh bummer.
YAY! Shopping for an awesome product and a great cause. I’m heading over to buy mine now- thanks SR!
thanks margaret!
Just bought mine! ~K
Ooooh!! Me likey!! I love the pink one. LOVE.
Which moving comfort bra is your favorite? It seems the Fiona is more for larger breasts
. I’m more like an A/B. I’m inclined to think Vixen would be a better choice.
i have both and think the same thing – i think the vixen is better suited for smaller girls. the fiona has a lot of support and is just more of a bra than you probably need. but both are really comfortable and their job well!
What a great idea! I’ve been wanting to get a new Bic Band for a few weeks now and this just gave me the perfect reason to actually do it!
Love all three of those!! Great designs!!
LOVE those-and the fact that we’re doing good while buying them makes it even better! : )
