Have you got in on the Oakley sunglasses giveaway?  Get on it!

Yesterday the Halloween decorations went down…

026 (800x446)

Which means Christmas decorations have starting going up…

wreath

oh lordy. on November 2nd.

In all fairness, my neighbor made this wreath (it has white crystal-type rocks on it that you can’t really see) and I didn’t want the door hook to be empty once I took the Halloween wreath off.  Taking the hook off the door would seem to be a simple solution, but I don’t do simple… or logical or practical…

But I feel good about my November 2nd wreathing because yesterday we received our first Christmas card in the mail!  The Salvation Army is all over their cards this year.

cards

I usually tape all the cards on this tile wall (the man loves that, I bet), or at least when I’m feeling confident about our number of friends and acquaintances.

By the way, just in case you want to know, DirectTV now has the Holiday & Happenings station playing.  Not that I’d know or anything. nope, not me.

MARATHON, TOMORROW

After some quick searching and emailing, I’m going to run the Santa Clarita Marathon tomorrow with a couple friends.  I didn’t even know about it until yesterday morning, but it should be a good run hopefully.

OTHER MARATHONS

If you’re looking for a new race, reader Erin emailed me that the BCS Marathon on December 9 in Bryan/College Station, Texas.  They will offer discounted registration for NYCM runners:

“We are extending an offer to run the BCS Marathon or Half Marathon for just $25 if you can show us an entry confirmation from this year’s NYC Marathon.

Email us those at info@bcsmarathon.com.  This is a very tough situation for all involved, and our thoughts and prayers continue to go to the victims of the hurricane.”

Has anyone else heard of any other races doing anything specific for the NYCM runners or just other possible races in the next few weeks?

One last thing: if you’d like to get an SR shirt (the hot pink and grey shirts here) I will donate 100% of the profits to the Red Cross NY.  Just email me at sr@skinnyrunner.com to make sure I have your size.

FYI… The Dallas Running Club will offer $65 entries to their half marathon tomorrow if you can show a valid NYC marathon confirmation. Check out their Facebook page for more info.

When I get Christmas cards, I just wedge them in between the branches of my Christmas tree. It’s an old tree and even with all the decorations it doesn’t end up looking full. The cards make it look fuller and I like how the lights make that cards look.

Glad you found a new race to run! Good luck!

If anyone wants to run the Richmond marathon in Virginia next Saturday (one week from today) let me know and I’ll pace you for a few miles :) It’s an hour and 45 minutes outside of DC.

I already have a few buddies coming town to run it, so excited.

Good luck in the marathon tomorrow! Glad you found another one since you aren’t doing NYC.

Do you have any tips on staying injury free? Seems like you are putting in millions of miles and somehow don’t get injured….I am never so lucky. :(

Seconding Katherine on the Richmond Marathon. I know quite a few people who were going to run NYC but are coming to do Richmond instead.

And as a bonus, I’ll be at the finish handing out medals since I couldn’t run thanks to a broken foot.

=)

The Soldier Marathon and Half Marathon which is next Saturday, November 10, in Georgia is offering FREE registration to anyone that was registered for NYC! You have to pay $1 through Active, but their Facebook page said they would even refund that when you picked up your race number. :)

My husband is running the Santa Clarita Marathon tomorrow also. He ran the half last year and said it was well run and organized.

I am doing the Philadelphia marathon on the 18th of this month and I believe they might have charity spots open. Not sure if they have any deals for New York runners but you could always check!

Heather @ passthedressing November 3, 2012 at 6:39 pm

That’s a pretty class act about the discounted entry.

I ran like 7 miles today and the only thing that kept me going was that you run like 100 on a daily basis. Ugh.

The Brooklyn Marathon, slated to happen on Nov. 18th, is taking waitlist registrations and is trying to open up their field. They want New York to have a marathon experience. As a little note… the race is being put on by a race company that is new, called NYC Runs, and they are super amazing. Check it out: http://www.thebrooklynmarathon.com/

I’m running Brooklyn! I’m glad there’s an alternate race option for NYC runners and hope they’re able to open the field! I love NYC Runs!

I just wrote about the Santa Barbara International Marathon on Nov. 10 offering a discount (unknown amount — come race with me everyone!) and the Tucson Marathon Dec. 9 offering an $85 discounted entry.

I also linked up to a helpful article about how to train for a marathon 1-4 weeks away after you’ve already tapered for NYC.

Richmond’s marathon is November 10th (it is AWESOME and I’m returning this year to reclaim the course following last year’s injured finish), Harrisburg, PA is November 11th, and Philadelphia, PA is the following weekend.

There are many more to choose from here: http://www.marathonguide.com/races/races.cfm

I liked the Sunglasses Shop page on Fb. I’d love to win those glasses!

In other news, I saw a jar of Dill Pickle Dip on clearance at Target yesterday and thought, “What the HECK is Dill Pickle Dip?” and then I thought, “SkinnyRunner would probably like that.” ;)

Seattle City Marathon is the weekend of Thanksgiving (they are changing the course this year should be interesting)
Good ol’ Las Vegas RocknRoll or what I affectionately call the largest $… show on earth. (not a fan of the night race on the strip).
(I did both last year – my experiences are up on my blog)

Good Luck -
