Hello from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin!
I wish I had more time here because the resort is beautiful.
I made a quick, long (how does that work?) trip here yesterday afternoon and carpooled in Chicago with my driving partner.
We hit traffic but made it to the ZOOMA Great Lakes race expo just in time.
I picked up my goody (messenger) bag, looked around for a bit, saw these two fabulous writer runners, and then it was time to go to the Ladies Night Out which was at the hotel as well.
At LNO, there was wine and appetizers and lots of other women runners to chat with. Dimity talked about the importance of cross training, and then a short informational session was given by Trek Women where I *attempted* to model some biking gear.
I learned how to clip in! I sorta really want to get into biking now… since the padded crotch shorts are pretty awesome.
Dimity did a great job speaking; I on the other hand, got all nervous and pretty much acted a fool. per usual.
After the event, I was able to meet a lot of readers. Thanks to everyone who stopped and said hello! It means a lot when you take your time to do so… and it gives me a big ‘ol head because I feel super VIP.
With the adorable Megan
With Morgan (did I get your name right?) and Alyssa; thanks girls for the picture!
With Jeni who’s volunteering at the race, how nice is she?!
With Sam and Shelly; good luck girls!
Nicole (I can’t find your blog, Nicole, but add the link in the comments and I’ll link to it) and Kate who stopped to say hi and talk about blogging for a bit.
With Lauren and her supersweet cheerleader of a mom
With the super nice Shauna
Thanks again to everyone who added to my enormous ego by saying hello, and I hope I got your names right.
A big thanks to ZOOMA for having me be a part of this event.
It’s a race series started by 2 sisters, run by only 3 women (the two sisters and Tricia) that’s dedicated to putting on the best possible event for women and to empower and encourage women.
I’m off to run!

Holy readers, Batman! I guess you met a lot of them!
Isn’t clipping in/out fun? Granted, I’ve only done on spin bikes, but still. Bikes shoes make spin class a way better workout. It’s like the only cardio class that kicks my ass almost as hard as running. Almost.
Good luck with the half this weekend? (not sure if it is today or tomorrow)
Looks fun!
Happy Running
That’s so cool Trek was there! Biking is an amazing cross-training activity. It’s one of the only ones I can do when my knee is acting up and even swimming bugs it.
Once you get over the fact that you feel like you’re wearing a diaper, cycling bottoms are actually quite comfy!
Good luck running today!
I have a Trek and love my bike, but haven’t ventured into the apparel yet. I might have to do that.
The Kidless Kronicles
I just got a bike & be warned, running may get jealous. What a super blasty, esp. w/friends. And if u wanna drop a bunch of $ in a hurry. Do it! Maybe your Jaymo will venture out w/u. I’m still workin on mine, he’s only interested in the motorized kind. But seriously, get a bike
!!!
That’s so awesome that you got to meet so many reader’s-really great! Looks like you’re having a great time and I can’t wait to hear how your run went!
Meeting readers must be a really cool feeling!
Enjoy the race!
I did a short bike trip with my friend. She had diaper shorts and I didn’t. We all know who got the last laugh..
Super cool that everyone came up to say hello to you. Good luck to all!!
I need one of those TREK bikes!
How cool that you got to meet so many readers! I’ve been wanting to get into biking. It seems like a great cross training exercise and fun!
Wow! Have a wonderful race!! I wish to do a Zooma race one day! I also hope to meet you one day SR! Great pics!
I’m so happy I made the blog!!!! You rock SR. Hope you enjoyed Lake Geneva. I love living here! Hope you have time to go out and explore….we should of got a drink but a hot shower was calling my name. Now I’m off for sangrias if you’d like to join :=)!
What fun to meet so many readers!
I want a bike now – after going downtown to watch the women’s ITU grand final yesterday, I’m keen! But those super-athletes make it look so easy. It was amazing to watch them run too.
I hope you have a great race!
Great meeting you this weekend. This was a super fun race to volunteer for, the staff was awesome, and who doesn’t love a race that has a winery as a sponsor!
Did they feel that cycling was the best form of cross training or did they suggest something else as well?
Happy running!!
I ran Zooma Cape Cod this year and it was a really neat experience. The first race I have ever run where you are given a pep talk that gets you fired up and believing in yourself. The wine at the end has me believing it has recovery drink written all over it!
awesome! it was a really fun experience today too, lots of really friendly runners who are all out there supporting each other and sweating together (and having wine, yes please!)
I see people with padded crotches in spin class all the time, and I’ve never been so jealous of padded underwears.
Oh yeah! This is the first step into the world of triathlon. You said it…you kinda wanna get into cycling. The diaper shorts are a definite plus! You can pee your pants and no one has to know. You already know how to run…the rest is way easier. I highly recommend it.
Also, hope you’re still up for coffee in a few weeks when you come up to SLO for the PR marathon. Drop me a line and we’ll figure it out. Good luck in your next run!
You did awesome as our model! I didn’t come up and say hi but I should have. However, I did get to look like a super stalker since I sat behind you and actually made it into one of your pictures, or at least 1/2 my face did.
Congrats on second place at the ZOOMA race!
Haha, after so many times coming to your blog everyday, it’s so funny to see my face on it! I was so excited to meet you – you are just as nice and funny in person as you are in your blog. Congrats on a great race (and please let me know when those white sparkly BIC bands are out – it was SO cute on you!!!)
My dad is a biker and he does all that clip in stuff, but I am way to hesitant to do that, I don’t trust myself quite yet!
ps where is that shirt from?? I love the color!
it is from Trek too, very soft and thin. i wore it in the race the next day too.
Looks like a blast to meet a bunch of your blog readers! Biking is fun too, and great for cross-training.
Zooma races seem like fun — I’ll have to check their website and check out locations.
I really don’t want to stalk you..but if you keep coming near my stomping grounds, first Chicago, then LG which I’m like 10 mins from…I’m eventually gonna seek you out
This weekend’s weather is awesome, you definitely came at a good time! Enjoy!
I’m jealous! Sounds like a fantastic weekend! Wish I was there!
Looks like an awesome event!
We got one of those trainer things for my mom for Christmas last year. She LOVES it in the winter.
YESSSS!!! you WANT to be skinnyspinner as well. Wait…that sounds dirty….
Seriously, I HATED biking until I started doing longer rides…it gets addictive. Especially with the added gear-shopping required.
Don’t even act like you didn’t learn the proper term for the padded diaper…
Shammy….didn’t you retain any of your information or were you too busy walking the runway?
I used to work at The Abbey! How did I not know about this race??!
I love love love cycling! Love! I got into spinning when I injured my knee running 10+ years ago and it effectively rehabed my knee to get back to running. I liked the indoor bike so much I bought a road bike and can now be found most Saturdays out with a local cycling club riding 30-50 miles. Love it. I now have 2 road bikes, an obscene amount of gear and many many cycling events completed including 65 mile Livestrong Austin last weekend. Its very complimentary to my running muscles and I believe it has kept me without injury since. Do it!! Its addicting.
