Here I am, San Fran

by SkinnyRunner on October 13, 2012

I made it to San Francisco without dying!

I’m not sure why I’d die in the first place?

005 (370x800)

My man dropped me off at the Orange County airport this morning where I took a short little commuter plane ride up to San Francisco.

009 (800x409)

I like flying on smaller planes because they automatically a la carte/bagtag your roller bags since they don’t fit in the overhead bins.

So you don’t have to pay to check a bag or do the luggage hustle shuffle trying to find an open bin for it.  That’s what Miley Cyrus would call the best of both worlds.

008 (450x800)

Once I arrived in SF, I took the BART (metro) into the city like a big girl.  I wanted to take a taxi but they cost like $7000 and BART was only $8.

Made it to my hotel which is a short walk to Union Square where the expo and start of the race is.

010 (800x450)

The hotel borders China Town, according to the map they gave me, and you can tell the Asian influence in the hotel.  For a more business/financial district hotel, it’s very pretty.

020 (800x447)

021 (435x800)

013 (800x341)

And I can see the water from my room!  I have to go to Alcatraz one of these times I’m here.

017 (800x450)

The room:

015 (800x448)

016 (800x416)

I want a lounger/sofa thing like that in my house.  That’d be my office because I would just never get up.  Get me a catheter, a stack of takeout menus, and I’d be good to go.

018 (800x420)

But the most important thing… in room coffee.  I swear I worry more about pre-race coffee than most people worry about their retirements.

019 (800x490)

Alright, now that I can sleep in peace tonight knowing there’s caffeine four feet away, I’m off to a blogger dinner and then the race tomorrow morning!

Love the hotel! Last time I was there I stayed at Union Square. I wonder if the expo is better. There wasn’t much to it in 2010.

Good luck tomorrow!!

You should definitely tour Alcatraz…its really very interesting. And I am not much of a “tour ” person.

I’m also staying in the financial district in one of the less extravagant hotels. The reviews said it was clean and quiet, no frills. No frills includes no coffee pot! I’m beside myself on how I’m going to cook my instant oatmeal as well as get my caffeine intake before the race!

Now that I’m an “experienced” runner (you may feel free to die laughing) I ask about things like coffee pot in the room. At the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge last year, I heated water first and made oatmeal, then I brewed coffee. We actually brought our own coffee in case the supplied coffee wasn’t strong enough! That was one of my strongest races, and I credit the coffee. I was certainly wide awake, anyway.

Love San Fran…make sure you get to run across the golden gate bridge at some point. That’s where the photo for my blog header was taken. Great views.

Have a great race! It makes me feel bad that you dont have a cheering squad there with you. Okay, not trying to sound naive but doesnt having coffee the morning of a race make for bathroom issues during the race?

Reply

SkinnyRunner October 13, 2012 at 9:15 pm

no, coffee helps you get your business done beforehand.

Awwww…..gotcha. Have a fantastic run this morning!

I stayed in the exact same hotel when my boyfriend and I visited San Francisco last year. I thought the sliding door to the bathroom was kind of weird. Didn’t really give you much privacy so good thing you’ve got a room to yourself, lol. Have fun on your race tomorrow!

Oh…you’re gonna have a great race! Know how I know that? Because they have LaVazza (world’s best coffee)! Also, because you just run a crap-ton and you will rock SF! Have a great run! Oh, and when you do the Alcatraz tour, take the night one…it’s just one level creepier!

Hope you didn`t have to stand around in the queue as other runners did, I heard there was a lot of traffic going on. Have a great race, also!

Hi SR,

If you have time, go to Brenda’s French Soul Food! It’s only a 15 minute walk from your hotel and it’s legendary!

What brand tanks/cami do you wear? I love that they are longer. Do they stay down?

Reply

SkinnyRunner October 14, 2012 at 5:52 pm

its actually a long sleeve shirt from nordstrom rack. i think its splendid.

but i love the hinge brand tank tops at nordstrom. they’re really soft and longer and a little tighter so they dont bunch up but they’re $26 each.
