How to deadlift heavy objects

by SkinnyRunner on October 10, 2012

Last post about Chicago…

Some official race photos from marathonfoto:

“This is fun!  I love running marathons with Pam!”

2012-10-10_1544

“Yeaaaaaahhhhh… not quite as fun anymore, at least not as much fun as Red Shirt is having.”

2012-10-10_1545

“I wonder if nuclear cold fusion is possible?  Is Ambassador Susan Rice’s career over?”

2012-10-10_1543

“Who cares?!  I just finished another marathon!”

BREAKFAST, AGAIN

Monday we walked around in search of breakfast food.  We’re normally not big breakfast eaters, but each of the three days we were in Chicago, we chowed omelets somewhere.

The man found Brunch on yelp so that’s where we went since it was the closest.

044 (450x800)

042 (450x800)

Who recommended Intelligentsia coffee?  Good stuff, definitely strong.  I grew a few (new) hairs on my chest after 2 cups.  Then I went outside and deadlifted a smartcar.

045 (800x450)

I had an omelet with ham and veggies; it was good but I don’t think it was any better than Eggsperience, but the hus thought this place was heaven on earth.  They make their own salsa which Jaymo made out with, he loved it so much.

And our waitress was really nice: we waited a little bit for our food (not that long) and she took 20% off our bill for it?!  sweet.

One last picture just for my nephew:

Boy LOVES all things Halloween.  For Christmas I’m just going to give him an old Costume City catalog and call it a really cool picture book.

That first pic is great!
Love your fashion sense btw :)

Do you always hold your phone(or whatever it is you use for music) in your hands during a marathon? Is that hard at all?

SkinnyRunner October 10, 2012 at 4:37 pm

i have a really janky busted ipod for music, and i normally dont bring my phone with me, only at really big races where meeting up with j at the finish could be an issue.

Nice photos! I have an uber-bad race photo to send you for your collection. How do I do that?

Awesome photos! Im just curious, how long did it take you to train for your first marathon? I just ran my first 5k last month and I know that I am no where near marathon ready, but I would like to run one sometime!

hannah October 10, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Aww, I think you look great in all of them. Seriously. Me? Not so much. I had a coworker who looked at them and ask, “…and you want me to run? So I can look like this?” I basically looked like I was in excruciating pain. I swear I wasn’t but too late. :/

Great pics! I don’t know how you manage to look good. I wonder who it was that first had the idea to take pictures of people doing something that feels mostly miserable??

Monica October 10, 2012 at 5:46 pm

I recommended Intelligentsia & Lou Malnati’s pizza (although I agree with you- thin crus is just soooo much better), and I’m glad you liked it! Great job on the marathon!

Fabian hates when I’m on the phone too. Especially if we are out anywhere. Maybe we can go on a double date, you can talk to my husband and me and Jaymo can look at our phones all night.

My seven year old just told me that we needed to work harder on our outside Halloween decorations. That spider may be what he had in mind.

My husband was on his phone on our first date and it was almost a deal breaker. I didn’t go on another date with him for three weeks because I was not impressed with that behavior.

Halloween is my ablsoulute holiday! I love everything about it! My house is always the funniest/little scary but not terrifying for the smaller kids. We never do anything until the day of so it’s a surprise. Parents bring their kids back year after year. I can’t wait to get into a new house so we can be a part of it next year!

Your legs look amazing! Besides running crazy miles, what else do you do to work out your legs?

I mentioned Intelligentsia on Twitter! I love, love, love the stuff – since it’s made by special hipsters (it literally takes them 10 minutes to make a regular cup of coffee at the actual shop), I like to think it has major powers:)

Beka October 11, 2012 at 3:57 am

Nice race pics! I saw Intelligentsia mentioned on Twitter by Mary (foodandfunontherun.com/ @marybaum20) She liked it.

I’d like to go to Eggsperience – or Chicago for that matter.
Ate at Omelette Parlour in Santa Monica outside one morning and it was pretty fantastic despite the so-so reviews. Portions are huge – big plate of medicore taste > dainty food that tastes good. But I like to eat – a lot. :-)

So…just got my first two pairs of pro compression socks! I did 10 miles in them the other day. They felt a little thin on the bottom (like tights). Do you wear another pair of socks under them for added cushion?

Reply

SkinnyRunner October 11, 2012 at 7:10 am

i don’t, but when my husband was in scotland, he wore 2 pairs (the shorties from pro and then the marathon socks) for warmth and to keep his feet dry.

so i prefer a thinner sock but you definitely could layer if you want something thicker, just make sure they’re running socks so you dont get blisters, chafing, bunching, etc.

Rebecca October 12, 2012 at 5:55 am

Thank you!!! I must admit that I am completely in love with the hot pink marathon socks…even if they do feel thin. It’s really all about style anyways. I’ll try my shorties on underneath then today!

My fiance used to answer his phone when we were at dinner and it drove me crazy. Thankfully, he stopped when I told him how much it bothered me :-)

U and red shirt guy are a little like that photogenic marathon guy that were all over the news, kind of like you were out jogging for a shoot- not a marathon :)

Speaking of breakfast places, I am so excited to get to go to San Diego this weekend, and besides Sea World, I cant wait to go to Snooze in Hillcrest. Have you tried it? Im not really an egg person, but every single thing ive had there is pretty wonderful :)

Oh my gosh, you look ridiculously good in those race photos. Way to go on finishing another marathon! So Impressive!

I barked out a laugh when you said you “dead lifted a smart car” because I know that feeling all too well from strong coffee. I am such a light weight with caffeine, though.

Blaire @ Just Been Running October 11, 2012 at 9:35 am

Those pics are great! You always look like a champ in your race pics, no struggles at all! I would literally be horizontal in those pics instead of vertical because I’d probably be on the ground dying.

Big K and I have something in common, I LOVE HALLOWEEN too!! It’s one of my favorite holidays, I think because Fall is my favorite season and I love candy.

That photo of Jaymo on the phone is exactly what my husband does every time we go out!!! I think in addition to funny race pics you should have segments called “pics of husbands on iPhones at restaurants ignoring us.” Let me know when you’re ready…
