Round Two at the Ryder Cup

by SkinnyRunner on September 27, 2012

Part 1.

Part 2….

Like I said in the last post, yesterday I was invited to the Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, IL, with American Express who’s a title sponsor and all about creating an even better experience for their cardmembers.

{Walking in the front gates}

The Ryder Cup is a tournament between (the best players of) Team USA and Team Europe and takes place every 2 years in different locations.  In 2014 it will be in Scotland.

{The teams}

023 (800x448)

The grounds are really beautiful and the weather was perfect, but if you go to a golf tournament, be prepared to walk a lot!  I know, super duh, huh, but I was surprised how much walking you could do.

025 (800x450)

Even though the tournament doesn’t start until Friday, there was thousands of people there watching the pros practice.  On Tuesday Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were there.  dang it!

027 (800x450)

I saw Bubba Watson, one of my favorite golfers.

028 (800x443)

And then saw him again.

030 (800x449)

And again.

032 (800x418)

Seriously, Bubba, you have a wife and child.  Get yourself together and stop following me.  Your stalking is starting to creep me out.

I had to get away from my stalker so we went into the American Express Hospitality Chalet for lunch.  Cardmembers can buy a ticket to use the lounge all day which was super nice.

034 (800x432)

All you can eat food, drinks, desserts including a freezer of ice cream treats(!), lots of areas to lounge, plug in electronics, watch the tournament on TV and get out of the heat.

037 (800x450)

After walking around so much, it felt soo good to sit and relax.  Plus, the place was gorgeous.  I might get into golf more if all tournaments were like this.

035 (800x463)

{Bloody Mary bar}

036 (800x533)

Plate one of two.  There was lots of salads, wild salmon, beef and pork, gourmet mac and cheese, wraps, all sorts of good stuff.

038 (424x800)

042 (800x434)

We watched more and walked and eventually headed out in the late afternoon.

Thanks to GLAM Media and American Express for inviting me yesterday; it was a lot of fun and totally different experience (I felt like a VIP!) and I know my husband is so jealous right now.

Dang girl, you are celeb status! I hate playing golf but I actually don’t mind watching. I’d be all about it at a venue like that! How fun!

Did you walk with a particular flight/group during the tournament or were you pretty much watching at a particular or a few holes only? The grounds are beautiful! And the tent, food etc – looks great. You’re so lucky!

we walked around and then hung out at the hospitality chalet, but some people would follow one golfer all day long and others would post up at a specific hole.

You should come to Seattle! Bubba Watson is besties with my pastor and he is preaching at our church the second week of October! Then you can MEET Bubba Watson :) He is super awesome.

p.s. Love your blog… my dad is an ultra runner and he told me to look at your blog because he thinks you’re hilarious. Trust me, it’s a big compliment! :)

Wow the course looks beautiful!
I wonder how much a ticket to the lounge/food area costs, did you ask?

It’s seriously too bad your husband couldn’t come! I feel like you’re living his dream!

My husband was there Wednesday! I opted for a HOT yoga class in the city with a friend but if I would have known The Biebs hung out at places like that I may have tried to sneak in!

What a cool experience, SR. J must be beside himself right now! I would never have left the Hospitality Chalet. I’d be the one taking a nap in the corner with that mac n’ cheese in my tummy.

So jealous of your VIP experience! I was at the Ryder Cup Tuesday and got to see the celebreties, it was very cool. I’ve been playing since I was 5 (I’m 28) and going to tournaments about as long and this was one of the best. Maybe now you’ll want to play with Jaymo more? :)

Wow that VIP lounge is nice! Much nicer than the one I snuck into at a Nascar race once ; )
