Crappy Reader Race Pics
Nora:
I thought this one really was a winner. So much so that i thought about purchasing the picture so I could remember not to try a stunt like this during a race ever again.
My friend and I ran what was supposed to be a half-marathon but was cut down to just 5 miles due to insane heat and humidity this past 4th of July. Had the race been the 1/2 marathon – I doubt I would have had the energy for the attached pose.
I swear both large and small motor skills were developed – but not evident in this picture. I also tried sporting a coordinating outfit for the first time. Conclusion? I need to drop some lbs and run in capris. Where were those shorts heading anyway?
ACHIEVEMENTS
Kelsey:
I can officially say now that I have completed my first 10K! On Sept. 1st, I ran the Women’s Rock 10K in St. Paul, MN along side my younger sister & we completed the race in 1:06 which I was more than happy with. Since I couldn’t run for 2 consecutive minutes this spring without stopping, running 6.2 miles without stopping was a huge accomplishment!
We even made it on the Women Rock Facebook page (there were 5000 runners). And to top it off, I signed up for the Monster Dash 10 mile run at the end of October….I think the addiction has started!!
Here’s a pre-race photo in our hotel room about 5:45 a.m. & then our photo that one of their photographers took at the finish…I love it!
Love that pic!
Love reading first time race recaps? Check out Kelly who just completed her first marathon.
It was so much harder than I thought and took me a half an hour longer than I anticipated, but I’m so happy it’s over with. I did this. No one else could do it for me.
FUNDRAISERS
Corey:
I’m running the 2012 Marine Corps Marathon to raise funds for Team Fisher House which builds “comfort homes” near military medical facilities so that families of service members can stay near them when they are hospitalized.
I feel lucky that I’ve always lived near family, for everything from babysitting to holidays to medical emergencies. Those who serve in the military often are not that fortunate.
Please help me reach my $500 goal in support of this great organization. You can donate here.
My friend Aubrey served as an officer in the United States Army and has deployed to Afghanistan as a Military Police Officer.
She was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Thanks to modern medicine she is feeling stronger … strong enough to run a 1/2 marathon. She is fundraising with Team in Training and any help you could give her in spreading the info would be SO appreciated.
You can donate to her fundraising page here.
I’m running the NYC Marathon this November, and my fundraiser is benefiting 2 Million Dogs – an organization raising awareness/research for Canine cancer & how further research on dogs can help aid in human developments as well.
My family recently lost our beloved pet, Pookie, to canine cancer this past May & she is the reason for my choosing this wonderful organization.
You can donate here to 2 Million Dogs and help Sarah and dogs with cancer out.
Kristin is running the NYC Marathon with Team for Kids; you can donate to the cause here.
She’s also holding a fundraising event in NYC next Wednesday; all details here.

Love my fellow Minnesota girls.
Love the pic of Kelsey and her friend crossing the finish line. That is so kick ass and super motivating. Great job to all you ladies for your running and fundraising! You’re all an inspiration.
Whoop Whoop Kelsey and Nora!!! As a fellow Minneapolis, MN runner I can TOTALLY sympathize with the heat we experienced this summer! I ran the Women Rock 10K also and it was a BLAST!!! Best Part = PR of 46:40. Keep running fast and making MN pround!!
Thank you so much for including my submission for my friend Aubrey. She reached her goal of $4000 in 24 hours! Now she is aiming hire to bring more money in to fight this horrible disease. Thank you SO much again!
Your rock, SR! Thank you for the shout out.
My new goal is to reach $1,000 in donations for Team Fisher House. They do so much for people who sacrifice so much for our country.
Congrats to the first timers! Nora: running skirts don’t do the “quad creep” thing.
Aubrey, you’re an inspiration! Best to the fundraisers for your awesome causes!
SR – I think what you do to support your readers and fellow athletes is so rad. You are funny, dedicated to your sport, REAL and have heart – you rock! Thanks for keeping us laughing and motivated.
