{Last post on Palm Springs, promise.
But I’m amazing at breaking promises.}
Yesterday morning after running we chow hounded down at the hotel’s restaurant Lantana.
Since we didn’t end up eating dinner the night before, we both were ready to chow down on breakfast.
The Sunday brunch (beverages included) was $22, and an omelet and coffee was $19 so we went with the buffet. Good choice because I ended up having 3 plates. girl was hungry.
{salmon}
{Oatmeal, fruit and an omelet}
{More eggs, more watermelon, felt very Monica-esque}
The hubs had a plate of pancakes after his omelet and while eating he asked who created pancakes in the first place because they’re “so delicious and taste like heaven.”
I didn’t know the answer so I just said Martin Luther and left it at that.
I’ve never been a pancake fan really and prefer savory breakfasts like eggs and smoked salmon any day.
After brunch I sat out by the pool for another hour while football was watched by the Dude in the hotel lounge. I was reading the October issue of Runner’s World and came across The Ultimate Guide to Pancakes… weird coincidence.
And to make things even more of a coincidence, the article talks about where pancakes originated and their history. Now if only I could blurt out a bunch of random numbers and then win the lottery.
A couple of highlighted flapjack hot spots:
We went to the Gazebo Restaurant in Maui last year and even though I’m not a ‘cake lover, it was insane. If you’re ever in Maui, you have to go here.
And we’ve also been to the Kerbey Lane Café back when we lived in Austin years ago.
We also went to another great joint, the Magnolia Café. Really randomly, one time we were there that my husband spotted a huge piece of artwork on the wall that he thought my younger brother would love so we bought it as a birthday gift from my mom.
On our drive home I had Reading Circle Time and read some of the pancake article out loud and then we stopped at a fruit stand on the side of the road. I always want to stop at random little roadside joints especially when they sell CANDY.
We picked up some peaches for .99, 7 tiny avocados for .99, yams for .39/lb, a bag of baby carrots for .99, a meat marinade, and a pickle.
Oh yeah, and my favorite health food of all:
“Some research has found that a particular type of cinnamon, cassia cinnamon, may lower blood sugar in people with diabetes…. Laboratory studies have found that cinnamon may reduce inflammation, have antioxidant effects, and fight bacteria.”
These are all natural, right? Wax has to be good for you….

Wow – talk about good timing. I am going to be in Maui next week – not kidding! Thanks for letting me know an awesome place to eat, will definitely check it out.
OOh I will have to tell my hubs that we have to make a trip to Austin to try Kerbey Lane. We love trying places that people recommend in new cities. We were in Austin for Labor Day and tried going to Salt Lick- 2 hour wait! We passed..
Why did you guys leave Austin?
the salt lick is amazing!! we’ve been there once and i think it’s worth the wait…
Jenny my 6 year old wanted to but my husband would have gotten tanked in 2 hours.. lol and we still had 3 hours to drive home
boo.
i wanted to move closer to the west coast near my family and jaymo got a job transfer to socal. and i dont think austin was the best fit for us.
I would have done the same thing. It’s nice to be close to family- even if it is just being the same coast. We currently live 7 hours away from family.. Just close enough.. LOL
Thanks for replying
The carnauba wax is there to make you more water repellent. You know, just like waxing a car. LOL
i feel heathier already.
My husband hates pancakes, so I rarely ever have them. When we go out to breakfast after 20+ milers, though, I usually order an omelette and a short stack of pancakes. It’s amazing and always freaks out the waitress when I eat it all.
Wax is natural, so it’s got to be good for you, right?
I love when the buffet is basically the same cost as a meal, but then I hate it because I eat so much!
I am much more of a sweet breakfast lover and never turn down pancakes. I also love the Mac Stack from Cheeseburgers in Paradise!
Sometimes, you just gotta have pancakes. Or french toast. I love little fruit stands like that. Quite the score!
The Kidless Kronicles
Oh my gosh I love pancakes!! I really like waffles and french toast too, so it’s a toss up of what’s my favorite. I also love hitting up places on the side of the road, it’s so cheap!
Palm Springs looked gorgeous! I’ve been there when I was little and when we used to live in Cali…I don’t really remember much about it other than it was hot, dry, lots of golf courses, and there was a lazy river at our hotel. Heaven for a kid…or an adult..in fact, I’d love to be in a lazy river right now!
My hubby makes pancakes or waffles every weekend and is always looking for variations! Pumpkin and apple are his latest batches.
Happy belated birthday to your Bro!
I just ate at magnolia cafe this weekend. i took my grandma. It is delicious! Also Kerby lane is pretty delicious too. Why did you leave austin?
dont tell Jaymo, but he’s looking very Tom Brady-esque to me in this photo of him. maybe it’s cuz I have Patriots on my mind cuz of their loss yesterday, i dunno. but he’s looking like tom brady a little bit to me. anyhoo, sorry, that has nothing to do with anything in your post. i am just kinda obsessed with matching people with their celebrity look alikes. and side note you are way hotter than Brady’s wife Giselle
Looks like you had a great time! Love all the pics! Have an awesome week SR!
Yummy! I love dried fruit and nut stands (as well as jazzed up pancakes). I enjoyed all the Palm Springs posts!
I know this has nothing to do with running, but call me nosy! I’d love to know how you two got together and ended up in California when neither of you are from there!
we met in prison and as soon as our parols were up and we could cross state lines, we fled.
I hear artificial flavor #40 is WAY better than #41, so there’s that. I prefer #39 myself.
I’ve never heard of anyone else that actually likes cinnamon bears but you, so the grocery stores and roadside joints thank you for turning their stock over.
Oh, and random…I will be back in Austin for 3M in January and I’m going to the Salt Lick on your recommendation the first night. Pretty sure I’m going to have to buy my husband adult diapers to contain his excitement. He and BBQ have a very close relationship.
i was just at costco today and they have a great selection (and pricec) for adult diapers, men and womens style. serious face, not kidding.
My whole family loves cinnamon bears. Like ~unbelievable that bag is demolished before you can blink~ fans. Add Hot Tamales and man… I’m in heaven
If I went to a buffet with watermelon it would be on!
So I know this could be answered with a quick google search, but were you right about Martin Luther? I’m Lutheran, and I like to give him credit for lots of stuff. Is that why we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday???? Or does everyone do that?
I had salmon for breakfast (for the first time) two weeks ago while I was in Chicago. My brunch was also accompanied by bottomless mimosas. I think it’s safe to say it was my personal version of Heaven.
SR, I’ve said it a million times before, but seriously, you inspire the crap out of me. I’m so impressed with how dedicated you are to staying fit, even on vacation! Now, on to pancakes. I am such a huge fan, but alas, have had to break up with them for awhile. Pancakes are kind of a-holes when it comes to helping you lose weight. Also, your bro is cute as can be but that mustache of his reminds me of The Lorax for some reason. Let’s keep that between us.
Of COURSE wax is good for you. That’s why I continue to eat my Red Hots cinnamon candy. It’s runner’s fuel.
hahah thank you
yeah the mustache looks like a little homeless….
Sorry chica…not one healthy or necessary ingredient in ur yummy gummy bears…
Its now been 9 months and only just had something I.e. tofu chocolate mousse with sugar…what was it?? chocolate cocoa 85% cocao beans..totally dif then reg chocolate!!! And the mousse..YUMMY..
Pancakes make me feel fluffy. I don’t like feeling fluffy. Give me eggs and oats any day.
I love cinnamon bears.
$19 for coffee/omelet?!?!?! That’s just $3 for brekkie…simple maths, I’ll take the buffet. And pancakes.
