Da Team for Vegas

by SkinnyRunner on September 17, 2012

On November 9-10 I’m going to run the RAGNAR Relay Las Vegas as an ULTRA team with some ultra sexy mamas.

And heck yeah, we’re gonna go for another big W.

Maybe it’s just me talking out of my rear, but I think we can win the overall womens title and finish in under 24 hours.

2012-09-17_1617

THE TEAM:

Emily from Sweat Once a Day

2012-09-17_1622

You know that crazy Ironman who’s going to run a 50 miler soon and eats 50ks for breakfast?  Yeah, ultra relays were pretty much made for her.

20120429_093159_thumb

Sarah from OnceUponALime:

2012-09-17_1625

Nobody coordinates an ultra relay like Sarah does or has the saint of a husband to drive and deal with us lassies the whole time.  She kills a spreadsheet just as she does the miles.

Kristina, the lone non-blogger:

2012-09-17_1631

She’s training for CIM with Sarah, but even more, if she can put up with all of us turd smugglin’ bloggers for 2 days straight, she deserves a crown.

Margot from TheFasterBunny:

2012-09-17_1638

Margot’s running the NYC Marathon the weekend before Ragnar like the boss that she is.  I’m confident she’ll rock both as long as we don’t let her off the ferry by herself…

20120325_112515_thumb

Lauren from HealthOntheRun:

2012-09-17_1639

I’ve never met Lauren, but word is she’s gunning for a 3 hour marathon… good enough for me.  hot dang.  And she just ran Hood To Coast where she ran one of her legs in all sub 6 minute miles.  I don’t even understand what a sub 6 mile is; is it humanly possible to run that pace?!

So that’s the team.  This relay we are having only 2 big sponsors and thankfully they’re companies that I use and dig big time…

THE SPONSORS:

PRO COMPRESSION

pc-tall-socks-350w-200x150

I love the socks: they’re the only compression socks I wear any more.  You can usually find a great deal on them and there’s always new colors coming out… like purple.

2012-03-05 001

Even my studmuffin mama likes the socks.  My mom had her best friend who’s an RN and on her feet 12 hours a day try a pair out, and I gave her two pairs to wear during work.

Plus, I like that it’s a small company and I LOVE how supportive Pro Compression is of the sport, the local running scene and us bloggers.  Let’s face it: none of us are going to become hot shot athletes, but Pro treats you like you are one.  (or maybe that’s my ego talking…)

Compex Muscle Stimulator

2012-2054 Digital Banners for Compex-Train_Recover_Complete_728x90

I met Matt, the head business dude at Compex back in April as I was gearing up to Man Up and needed all the recovery help I could get.

027

I also ran the second half of the San Diego RnR Marathon with Matt… the day after he worked on Ryan Hall who was dealing with plantar fasciitis.  no big deal.

DSCN9557-360x640_thumb

{Matt dressed as Elvis, I’m sure he still beat me in full costume}

How Compex works, my super unofficial explanation:

Electrical Muscle stimulation (EMS) sends an electrical (duh) impulse that makes your muscles contract (my legs twitch crazily sometimes depending on how tight they are) which helps you recover quicker by eliminating lactic acid, increasing, blood flow, stimulating endorphins, and pumping AWESOME into your veins.

You can read more about the clinical research and science behind it here.

I like Compex because I feel like it works and it’s super easy – you put on the electrode stickers and sit there.  No stretching, no icing, no nothing.

And since this is SR and I do love celebrity gossip and Mark Sanchez has started dating Eva Longoria

1BF47E18

…here’s NFL QB Sanchez talking about Compex:

So that’s the team and our sponsors.

Anyone else running RAGNAR Vegas or doing another relay?

Ever tried Pro Compression socks or Compex muscle stimulators?

I haven’t ran a relay but would love to run the Ragnar- Miami to Key West becauuse it’s closeby. It’s in January and each January I am running another marathon (Disney, Miami), and I can’t run back-to-back races like you! Looks like a kick-butt team! I think you girls will take the win!

Abby @ Change of Pace September 17, 2012 at 6:50 pm

Fun relay and fun relay team!
Sanchez and Longoria- there must be a huge age difference there?!

Y’all are going to have a blast…and most likely get that W…even if some people wind up waiting at exchanges or missing boats ;-)

What a fun group you’ve compiled!

W in the bag. Done and done.

Interestingly enough I heard the news of Mark and Eva from my boyfriend … something about hating Mark Sanchez and fantasy football? I am clearly behind the times if the fantasy football community knows about this relationship and I don’t.

You are amazing in your runningness, I want to be you when I grow up.

Anne Marie September 17, 2012 at 7:55 pm

Holy schnikeys your team will dominate. I’ve never done a Ragnar Relay but I really want to try the FL keys one or the Hood to Coast relay…and then get electric shocks and stuff.

I *might* be there. We will see!

um, whoa. 6 minutes miles. i’m going to pretend you meant 6 mph miles, since that’s the speed i’m currently struggling with.
in all seriousness, you all sound like an amazing group of women, and i can’t wait to hear about the race!

Sounds like you have a great team! I have purchased a pair of pro-compression socks at your recommendation. But I am short and find most of these socks too tall for me. My suggestion would be to make a short person size. I went to physical therapy a few years ago and they used the electric thing on my legs. It felt really funny the day it was turned up too high and my legs started twitching.

Kailin @ Logs and Thoughts September 18, 2012 at 4:28 am

Swiftwick makes some compression socks that aren’t quite as tall as Pro Compression’s socks. I have two pairs of both brands and they are pretty comparable in everything else. But Swiftwick offers different heights so you know what you’re getting (12s are 12″, 7s are 7″, etc.). Might be worth a look.

Can you sweet talk Matt into loaning me the Compex for a couple of days? I missed an opening on a drain cover and bumped my left heel last week; the bruising has subsided but there’s some inflammation in there. Have been having the Chinese physician massage the h*** outta it and it’s on the road to recovery…but would love to give the Compex a try.

You guys will bring home the W for sure…is this the same one you did last year with most of the same girls? If so, I can’t believe its been a year already….have fun!

Pro Compression is an amazing company…I totally agree!! LOVE them!! (yes, in a weird way..)

Kailin @ Logs and Thoughts September 18, 2012 at 4:22 am

Sounds like an awesome, fast team!

I am running Ragnar TN, from Chattanooga to Nashville, at the beginning of November. My ultra team is called Ultra Stupid…because we might regret by our last couple legs having only 6 runners. But it is such a fun race and environment, and I know almost half the route like the back of my hand. Hopefully it goes well and we don’t finish last :-)

Kari @ Running Ricig September 18, 2012 at 4:59 am

I love ProCompression socks so much. I’m pretty much convinced that they cured my tendinitis.

You guys are going to rock Ragnar again!

Reply

Karen @ Runner Girl Eats September 18, 2012 at 6:26 am

That’s a helluva team you have! You guys will def dominate. One of my goals is to run the Miami to Key West ragnar. January on the water in South Fl=dream race.

Reply

Lacey @ FamilyFitnessandFoodery September 18, 2012 at 7:13 am

I have a feeling that you ladies are going to dominate at the relay! Also read OUaL so it will be cool to see both of your views of the relay.
Never tried compression socks because I am still working up my mileage. Don’t think I will need them until I start doing at least 10 milers.

Reply

Blaire @ Just Been Running September 18, 2012 at 7:22 am

You guys are going to rock it!! I haven’t really used compression socks yet, but I’ve been thinking about it. I would absolutely love to use Compex because back in college I did an internship at a Physical Therapy clinic and they used that on all the patients. It’s crazy how much it seems to help and since I have an injury right now I think it would help me a lot!

Reply

Alli September 18, 2012 at 8:24 am

You ladies are gonna do great! I’m not familiar with Ragnar races. What’s the distance total and how is it split up??

Good Luck!!

ohh and thats weird, I’m pretty sure that celeb gossip is wrong. Mark and I actually dating…..or maybe that was in my dream last night. dang it

Reply

SkinnyRunner September 18, 2012 at 9:29 am

its about 200 miles so each girl runs 3 legs with total mileage anywhere from 30-40 miles.

Mindy September 18, 2012 at 8:25 am

We are running the Vegas Ragnar too but we aren’t hardcore enough to do it Ultra! I will keep an eye out for you as your team flys by us on our third legs :)

Good luck ladies! That looks fun! try as I may, I can’t seem to convince my friends they want to run for 48 hours while living out of a van! Anyone in New England want to form an East Coast Ultra team?

I think the team has got this one in the bag. If not, at least you’ll have fun running it!

Love Pro Compression! I wear them for recovery, running and work as an clinical exercise physiologist. I’m on my feet for 9-10 hours and my legs have never felt better since wearing them. Great company and a great product!

I am running the Vegas Ragnar! We just got done at the Napa Ragnar last weekend. We are far from Ultra and you will probably finish before we even start lol. But we are HOOKED! I will look for you!

I ran Ragnar Vegas last year and it sucked big time. The course was bad and many of the exchange points had no volunteers manning them. I’m told that they changed the course and made a lot of improvements for this year, so I hope it’s a fabulous experience for you ladies! I’ve done Ragnar Wasatch Back for the last couple years and am signed up for next year. Can’t wait!

Kylea September 18, 2012 at 2:35 pm

I am addicted to my ProCompression socks. Thanks to your recommendation, I am hooked on them. As a baker, I work on concrete floors for 10 hours a day and they are awesome! At 4am (my early days), sometimes the only part of me that is truly awake would be my calves all dressed up in their ProCompression. Call me crazy, but I think they help with my plantar fasciitis too.
Thank you for sharing all the awesomeness of ProCompression!

michelle kim September 18, 2012 at 5:11 pm

I love love love my Pro Compression socks! I actually bought two pairs when you put up a link (they were selling them for half off or something).
Woo hoo! Your team looks awesome!

Reply

Kash September 18, 2012 at 5:56 pm

Do you run in the compression socks or just recover in them? I bought compression sleeves at the recommendation of my friend who loves them but she said they’re more proven to help during recovery. I didn’t notice a difference in my calf pain either way, but I am a student nurse so I’m interested in alleviating leg soreness after shifts!

Reply

SkinnyRunner September 18, 2012 at 7:37 pm

i do both, run in them and wear them post-run for recovery.

I’ve never tried compression socks or the muscle stimulators. The muscle stimulator looks too hard core for me =) I definitely need to try the compression socks though now that I’m running more. Sounds like it could help with some soreness.

So, I read in your last blog post that you’re from Austin, TX. Just wanted to spread the word on The Austin Thong Jog (www.austinthongjog.com), a 5K that my husband’s company (Austin F.I.T.) is hosting. Didn’t know if you or anyone you know might happen to be in Austin October 20th, but it should be crazy fun! The ad for the event: http://youtu.be/kKDOXI5TbTY

It does inpire me to get “fit” and if I could run, I would!….I have a bad knee. (I am going to start at Weight Watchers again on Monday)

I just snagged the Pro Compression deal to add to my collection (dark purple). I reasoned that I wouldn’t sweat in these & that they’re my recovery pair… we’ll see how long that lasts. Thank goodness I can break out the boots soon for when I wear them out!
