BUILD MY MUSCLES

You might have seen Premier Protein around the blogworld and like clockwork, they asked me to try out some of their products as well.

I tricked them into thinking that my opinion matters so they sent me some protein to build up my massive muscles chicken flap wings.

Premier Protein Shakes

Premier Protein Shares

{160 calories, 30 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, low sugar, 24 vitamins and minerals, 8 essential Amino acids, good source of calcium}

Premier Protein Bars

Premier Protein Bar Review

{30 grams of protein, 280 calories, 7 grams of fat, no trans fats, hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup}

What I liked?

I liked the chocolate shake and the nutritional facts: for 160 calories you get a lot of protein (30g), but the vanilla flavor was a little too sweet for me (I didn’t try the strawberry.)

I also like the yogurt peanut butter crunch bar best, but at nearly 300 calories, I’d cut in two and put the other half in a baggie and eat it later.

food (800x727)

I think these bars could be good recovery “mini-meals”, but I like to keep my energy bars around 200 calories so half of it was a good pre-running snack.

Hi-re Premier Logo

{They’re available for sale online and in Costco and Sam’s Club stores.}

**6 bars: 2 bars in each flavor (Chocolate Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate Crunch and Yogurt Peanut Butter Crunch)

I would give up chocolate over bread. Give up alcohol over sweets. Before I had kids I wouldn’t have said that but going 9 months without alcohol twice now, I know I can do that. I would give up dessert for one week. I need breakfast.

I’ll give up bread. As much as it saddens me to say that, bread and tortillas have been making my tummy upset for the last couple months so I’ve pretty much already cut them out :-( Chocolate on the other hand is like coffee: dont care if it makes me sick, i must have it! :-)

I’d give up bread, sugar, and breakfast. As long as I’ve got some chocolate and some booze around, all is good!

Reply

I wonder if I’d be allergic to those protein bars like so many others…. hmm.
I’d give up chocolate over bread (thank goodness you didn’t make me choose between bread and cheese). Alcohol over sugar- I probably have had 6 drinks this entire year, so that would be easy. I can skip desert safely, but no one is safe if I don’t get breakfast!

Hands down I’d give up bread for dark chocolate.
I’ve given up both alcohol and sugar. The first permanently the second not so much permanent abstinence. Occasionally I do indulge in sugar in it’s finest form- Georgetown Cupcake when I travel home to DC. While in my southern exile I make do with cake from Publix. Not GC but it will do.
Breakfast or dessert? Tough. Breakfast is a new habit. Dessert only if it looks REALLY good. Like a Coconut Georgetown Cupcake- I’d sell one of my kids for that, baby!

I would give up
Chocolate for one month.
Alcohol (I don’t drink so is this considered cheating?) for one year.
Dessert for one week. Because, let’s be honest, stuffed french toast may as well be dessert.

Reply

I’d give up bread over chocolate! Dark choc (Swiss) is the BEST–oh and with some hazelnuts. Mmmm.

I wanna win! :)

Reply

Meagan@ irun4chocolate.wordpress.com September 1, 2012 at 11:33 am

I would give up bread for chocolate (not a bread person; rarely eat it!). I would give up alcohol for sugar. I would give up dessert since my breakfast every morning is like dessert (deep chocolate vita top, scoop of natural skippy peanut butter, and a little whipped cream)!!

:)

Reply

Michelle Adams September 1, 2012 at 11:34 am

MMmmm, bread, alcohol & dessert (which contridicts the chocolate choice – ROFL!)
Thanks for the chance!

Christine September 1, 2012 at 11:42 am

I could give up chocolate for a month – I think. Ugh that would be really hard. I don’t think I could cut out all bread for a month – that’s just crazy talk.

It would be easy to give up alcohol for a year, I’ve done it multiple times and I wasn’t pregnant – sugar would be impossible to give up for a year.

Breakfast I could never give that up. I sometimes eat two mini breakfasts to keep my stomach from growling and prevent me from becoming a complete witch.

I’m looking forward to trying some new protein bars and drinks!

Reply

kathy September 1, 2012 at 11:46 am

Easy…..

Bread would be gone in a month.
Alcohol would be history for a year.
Dessert would be hard but manageable to be without for a week.

I need my chocolate fix!!!

Reply

Kailin @ Logs and Thoughts September 1, 2012 at 11:57 am

For a month, bread–chocolate is too tasty! For a year it would have to be sweets becaus I already don’t drink alcohol so saying that wouldn’t be giving up anything–but I don’t know whether I’d actually succeed. I have found that the more fruit I eat the less I crave sweets and treats. For a week I could give up dessert–early-morning workouts + no breakfast = one very grumpy Kailin. Plus as it is I eat breakfast at least twice before another late-morning snack, so I just couldn’t do it.

However, I wouldn’t want to buy them in bulk unless I was in love with them. I see Pro Compression socks advertising on here. Do you know the mmHg in a pair of them? I sent them an email to check, because $50 is a LOT for socks. Thats probably the reason I only own 2 pair haha.

Glad to see you are enjoying yourself up there with your family. I too am doing the same out here in desert-heat/valley-flat/boonieville-farm-land.

Here’s my answer to your questions:
I’d give up bread over chocolate (it’s been awhile since I’ve had chocolate though, SHOCKER).

I’d give up sugar because I LOVE my wine (takes a quick sip of cool white wine). This statement, coming from a former sugar-addict.

I need breakfast, so I’d give up dessert. Although I consider exceptionally sweet fruit as dessert. Yesterday I was standing under my mom’s fig tree, searching for that sweet fig nectar. Since we are all fruit-aholics, there were only two that were ripe. Sweet and ripe, they truly are.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

I would give up bread over CHOCOLATE any day. I can also live without sugar but since it’s in CHOCOLATE I would have to give up alcohol. Then I would give up dessert cuz I could make my needed breakfast with Nutella and have the best of both worlds!! Oh, BTW I could never give up coffee either. Just sayin’

As much as I like chocolate it has to go. I need bread! (Hello former fat kid food issues!)
I could give up booze, but not all the amazing stuff with sugar in it. (FYI- Wine is basically just grapes. Right? Doesn’t count.)
Dessert is amazing and I could eat it 5 times a day, but I have to eat right when I get up or I turn into a beast! So bye bye dessert.

So with that, I ask of you to pick me, pick me ;)

I’d rather give up bread since I don’t eat that much anyways. I’d rather give up alcohol than sugar since I don’t drink that much anyways and there is sugar in so much stuff. Though I’d rather give up desserts for a week than breakfast. I get really hungry in the morning. I’d start eating lunch at 9:00am.

Would you rather give up chocolate or bread for 1 month? Bread without any hesitation!

Alcohol or sugar for 1 year? That’s tough. A year without wine hmmm or a year without froyo, chocolate, yummy goodness. Okay wine. I give up wine.

Dessert or breakfast for one week? Breakfast! I’ll survive without it.

Bread, sugar, and dessert. I couldn’t live without chocolate, beer, or breakfast. The 300 calorie bar sounds dangerous to me- that’s like a 4-mile run for me, and the reason I run is to burn calories, not pack them on with a post-run snack. But, I’d love to try the shakes- I always wonder about them.

Thanks for the giveaway and happy trails!

Reply

Amy September 1, 2012 at 9:02 pm

I love me some wine, so definitely, I would rather give up chocolate over alcohol (one of the reasons we don’t have kids yet-that, and the whole “being pregnant” thing) and, breakfast foods are my favorite-I work nights, so I give myself license to eat them at any time-so I would way rather give up dessert!

If I had to choose? Goodbye chocolate, alcohol and dessert!

I think I may have gotten kinda lame in my old age. I’d miss chocolate a bit I think, but I prefer it in small chunks of the insanely bitter stuff, so I don’t know if that even counts as the same thing other people are eating as “chocolate” anymore.

Happily this is not a requisite of winning the protein stuff or I’d be completely out of luck!

Reply

Chocolate; Alcohol; Dessert.
There’s too much calories in those bars. Actually even the calorie count for the shake seems to b on the high side – mine is 25g protein for 120 or 122 calories. Caveat: it’s soy protein though.

I am always looking for new products to check out! These look like a good change from my usual Muscle Milk!

I could give up alcohol for sure, since I hate it anyway. I could give up chocolate too, I love my bread! I like the calorie content of the 160 shakes. 30g of protein is awesome! I would love to try them!

First time to leave a comment but love your blog. Can I ask how many miles you average a week? You are so thin-do you watch your sugar and carbs. Would love a post on your nutrition.! Thanks

The alcohol would be the easiest for me to give up because it’s not as tempting annnddd around here you have to drive 239084723895 miles to even get any!

this one is easy!
bread > chocolate
alcohol > sweets… light weight these days!
dessert > breakfast

Yum!!! I’m on the search for a new protein product. I would love to try these out. All of the flavors sound delicious. :)

I could give up alcohol for sure.
I’d give up chocolate over bread.
I’d give up dessert over breakfast (but that’s a really hard one!!!).

Ohh, these protein bars and drinks sound great and I’d love to win and give them a try!
If I have a very dark chocolate (80-90%) bar (along with my salad and proteins) I am fine without having sugar, bread, alcohol, or salty snacks.

I’d give up chocolate, sugar and dessert – guess my sweet tooth isn’t that strong. I can’t imagine living without beer and pizza!

I’m looking for some new protein bars–getting sick of my usuals!

I just saw those at Costco but I worry about buying that much when I don’t know if I like it or not. I’ve been burned before (hello giant bag of protein powder)

Give up bread…… Now that’s crazy talk. Thanks for coordinating the give away!

Alison September 3, 2012 at 9:17 am

Tough choices!

I would choose to give up bread over chocolate. Sugar over alcohol and dessert wins over breakfast.

Jen September 3, 2012 at 9:19 am

I defiitely couldn’t give up chocolate!

I’d never give up bread, are you kidding me? Alcohol over sugar – I’m a runner! I need sugars and gels and gummy bears! – and I could do without breakfast and dessert really.

Melissa Z September 3, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Chocolate or bread is a really tough one, but I think I’d give up chocolate. On day 32 though you better believe I’d be swimming in a vat of it!!! I’d give up Alcohol over sugar. There’s too many things with sugar (even just a little) to give it up completely!!! And I NEED my Bfast, so easy choose to give up dessert!!!

I would give up chocolate over bread…but it would definitely be hard!

Reply

Kelsey September 3, 2012 at 5:51 pm

The easiest thing for me to give up out of the things you mentioned would probably be alcohol. I love everything else more!

TiffanyS September 3, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I would give up bread for sure. I don’t eat a ton of bread as it is. But, give up chocolate or beer/wine..uh, no! One of my Ragnar vanmates had this brand of drink in our cooler, but I didn’t try one. I’d like to give it a go.

I’d give up chocolate and dessert. Alcohol or sugar is a tough one bc most of the alcohol I like has sugar in it. :(

Jill September 4, 2012 at 5:56 am

I’d love to try the shakes! I’m always looking for ones that I can actually enjoy.

And you’d be crazy to think I could give up bread. That’s like asking me to give up bacon! And

Definitely bread. Can’t give up that chocolate!

I would give up bread, sugar and dessert. Although if I give up sugar, I guess I can’t have dessert. Trick question.

Would love to iwn the pack!

I could give up chocolate for a month.
I could give up alcohol for a year (I wouldn’t like it, however).
I could give up dessert for a week…fo SHO!

I’d love to win some protein stuff. :)

I’d give up chocolate, alcohol and breakfast out of the above. I’m not a huge chocolate person unless it’s in ice cream, alcohol isn’t that important to me and I usually only really eat breakfast on weekends anyway.

Reply

Julie S September 4, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I already don’t eat bread and alcohol. Dessert, on the other hand, would be hard. I love it!

Reply

Mary Anne September 5, 2012 at 7:04 am

I’d give up bread over chocolate and give up alcohol over sugar……..a day without chocolate is a day without sunshine!

Easy peasy. I’d give up:
Sugar
Chocolate
Dessert

Seriously, Alcohol, Bread, and Breakfast are very high on my list of food items/categories I enjoy.

I’ll keep my chocolate, thank you very much. The rest I could go either way.
