Show me whatcha got (link it up)

by SkinnyRunner on August 23, 2012

Just stopping to say a quick howdy doody before my dog takes me for a walk.

And then I’m gonna take myself for a run since yesterday was an “implant myself on couch” rest day.

WINNING!  AT LIFE

If you’re into winning free stuff, go check out Gina’s giveaway for a couple pairs of my favorite compression socks.

It looks like the purple socks are on sale only until the end of the month with the code SOM812.

I wore my purples ones running the Gansett Marathon and then my mom stole them from me.  I’m working on forgiving her since she was my personal hydration specialist during the race…

{All about compression post}

I’M SMART, I PROMISE!

I have some fun news that I’ll tell you about this afternoon so check back to see how lame I am.  Here’s a hint and the cutest USB memory key ever:

PLEASE DON’T STOP THE MUSIC

I’ve received a lot of emails recently about why I’m so dumb (“Baby, I was born this way.”  Thanks, Gaga for help on that one) and what music I run to.

I actually haven’t run with music in months, since sometime before I left for Alaska.  This post is all about why and how I started running without music.

running-with-music

Yes, that’s an actual silhouette of me… what perky buns I have!

Do you have a post, recent or older, that you want to share/are proud of/just plain like?

Include a link to it in the comments.  It could be a race recap, a travel post, a product review, a totally sweet picture of yourself post, whatever.

In light of my second half marathon this weekend, I wanted to share the recap from my first half marathon. This is my first year of running really consistently and doing more than a 5k, and the half was my second race of the year and a very good learning experience on how not to run a race, especially mentally.

I’m not sure why I like this post so much, but for me it means a lot because I really really want to get to the point (once my IT band feels better) to start training for a marathon. It’s my ultimate goal and the entire reason I started a blog in the first place.

I’m a very motivated person and goal oriented as well so my injuries (2 IT band issues) have been frustrating to say the least. I usually like to keep my blog a little more care free with some sarcasm here and there, but this one is a little more serious.

http://theroadto26-2.blogspot.com/2012/06/62-miles-down-20-more-to-go.html

Thanks for the opportunity to share my blog!

(Also, do you and/or anyone else out there have any tips for IT band injuries other than rest, anti inflammatory’s, foam rolling, icing, and stretching?)

Reply

Leonor @FoodFaithFitness August 23, 2012 at 11:17 am

I have dealt with this injury a few times. It depends on how bad your injury is. If it’s really bad, then you should get ART (active release therapy). If it’s the beginning, what worked for me was rest (no running), foam rolling, and stretching.

I had to run without music this morning because the battery in my MP3 player was dead, and I didn’t realize it until I was already at the track. Wasn’t too bad at first, but I was really ‘needing’ some music around the 4 mile point.

Beth @ Running with the Sunrise August 23, 2012 at 11:00 am

Those purple socks looked great on you–bummer you “lost” them.

I never run with music outside, except for races. I mostly do it for safety reasons (there are lots of really bad drivers where I live), but I think it’s a really good mental workout to do longer runs without music. And, if you do listen to music when you race, the music has an even bigger effect on race day.

This is my recap of Seattle RnR this year, but I’m not posting cause I love the recap, it’s more of the reason why I run Seattle RnR every year and about the group Wear Blue Run to Remember, running for the service and sacrifice of the American Military. Seattle is such an emotional race for me and this Saturday will be 3 years that Lisa Hallett (mentioned in my post) will have lost her husband to the war. He is missed by many.

I’ve lost 28 lbs since I started running. I gave up just about every food I loved for the past 9 months. I now make a dessert once a week and indulge a little. Here’s my all-time favorite dessert – Ruby Berry Cobbler and it’s made in the microwave (important for southerners in the summer). http://www.runonerunall.blogspot.com/2012/08/ruby-berry-run.html

Here’s a post about my transformation which includes some killer cholesterol numbers! And how I lowered them! :) By running of course!

I need help with recommendations for blog designers…especially those on the cheap. Awesome combo (being sarcastic!): good and cheap.

I’ve recently started LIVING for compression socks. Mine are hot pink but I’m due some extra pairs. Btw, love the blog!

Here’s my pathetic attempt at sticking to my half-marathon training while in Italy for a wedding… epic fail!!! http://www.2itchyfeet.com/2012/08/pizza-pasta-gelato-pig.html

I recently posted about turning 30 & the internal conflict I’ve been having regarding figuring out when to have a baby.

This is a post I did about racing in Athena divisions. I understand it’s a regional thing- so if you don’t know what Athena and Clydesdale divisions are, don’t worry! :) they’re weight-based divisions in races, opposed to age divisions. Check it out! :)

I finished my first-ever triathlon last Sunday and posted a short recap with my time breakdowns. I wasn’t the fastest one out there and I wasn’t too pleased with the race organization, but the amount of pride I felt finishing was (and is) totally overwhelming.

I’m a new blogger and a TOTALLY new runner. I did a blog post about the Portland Rock N Roll. It was my first ever 1/2 and a learning experience of all sorts for me. I’m such a huge spaz. I’ve always been the funny chubby girl. Now I’m learning to be the funny fit girl. It’s hard work. :)

All I got is a pic of a nasty quarter-sized blister on my toe after hiking 105 miles.

I’m training for my first half marathon which is September 15th! My blog has been a little of everything but mostly blogging my miles and how I feel. I just blogged about my 12miler and how it mentally beat me down. Btw….I don’t go a day without reading your blog!! I love it and love how you put tons of info and funnies in each blog. Thanks for that and for keeping it real!!
