Making bets and taking odds

by SkinnyRunner on August 16, 2012

WORKOUT -

Walked the dog -

3.45 miles

Ran outside -

10 miles/1:28

hot, hilly and slow

Normally I run first thing in the morning and then walk the dog, spinning the wheel chancing if she’ll die in the heat or not.

Today’s 90 degrees and I wasn’t feeling too great about the odds of her living so we walked at 6:30 and then I ran at 8:30am.

005 (569x800)

{Probably didn’t need a pullover, oh well. We can’t all be geniuses.}

Of course while out running I found this poker chip on the street.  what luck.  I bet it’s worth like at least a million bucks in Vegas.

009 (800x754)

Today I met my friend Katie for froyo because we had to celebrate some amazing news: Kim Zolciak just had her second son!

007 (640x800)

The other almost as exciting news is that Katie just took and passed her Nurse Practitioner exam this morning so she’s a legit NP now.

I also wanted to float an idea by her where we could go into business selling used bedpans that she steals from hospitals.

**Speaking of babies, go congratulate Janae and Billy on their baby girl born yesterday!

**The winner of the CLICK giveaway is #76 Aubree Cruz:

Aubree, please email me sr@skinnyrunner.com your mailing address and who you think Jennie McCarthy is going to date next.

Anyone in the medical field out there?  Nurses, medical billing, LPNs, physical therapists, doctors?

Can anyone hook me up with some magical wrinkle age-defying cream?

My sis is a PA and she is working in derm. She harasses the living daylights out of me for being outside so much, I harass her to figure out ways to minimize my sun damage! Win-win really.

Both my parents are in the medical field. My Dad took me into a surgery when I was 7 thinking I would like it. Wrong. I was traumatized and became a teacher instead.

My mom was a nurse and loved it and wanted so desperatly for one of her kids to be one too. I thought about it for a second and then she told me the story of when a full colostomy bag exploded in her face while on one of her rounds and i decided not to go down the nursing path. Instead I became a teacher, now in my 7th year of teaching PreK. I get farted on, belched on, boogered on and vomited on daily. gee, aint i glad i didnt go into nursing. :-)

You, my dear, don’t need wrinkle cream at all. But i’ll tell ya what i love. Organic cold pressed coconut oil. best natural moisturizer i have ever used. slap some on at nite and wake up with smooth skin.

Hope you had a thrilling Thursday, SR! peace out.

Every time you post about your husband being handy or remodeling I get jealous. Mike hates all of that stuff and often wonders why I want to paint rooms of the house.

I’m a nurse! I passed my NCLEX 6 years ago. It seems like yesterday. It’s a great job & always in demand no matter where you live.

I have a physiotherapy degree ( I think you guys say physical therapy), but it sucked as a career (very repetitive) and I practiced for less than a year after graduating. I love knowing how my body works though, and having a degree has allowed my to have a great career in health policy and eductation.

I’m a PT and love it! The most rewarding part is seeing my patients achieve their goals and get back to their normal activities.

I am! But not really…I’m a behavior analyst, but my work crosses over into pt/ot/st and neuroscience a lot. I follow HIPPA and wear scrubs! That counts! Plus I can bill health insurance, so I consider myself in the medical field.

I think I use pretty good eye cream because I was told by a 9 year old today that I look like I’m in my 20′s! My eye cream is by Mary Kay.

ok, saw the post about pickles…. I am from a small town in North Carolina and there are a couple of What-A-Burgers around the area….they have a drink called the “Witch Doctor” basically it is soda (I think is it various kinds in there) mixed with pickle juice and pickles……..Yes, completely gross sounding, but honestly the one time I tried it, it was not bad (just do not drink sodas)

Love your blog and running also!

I’m not professionally trained or anything, but with my current job of potty training twins, I’m pretty good at butt wiping and changing soiled garments. Does that count?

I’m a nurse, but I’ve yet to find some miracle cream for wrinkles. I was kind of hoping I would find this best kept secret out here in blog land, but no dice. I think it’s super awesome that your husband is so creative and makes the house all pretty. Mine just decorates it with his things… all over the place.

I’m a PT too and I absolutely love it. I knew I wanted to be one when I was sent to PT in 9th grade. 13 years later, 2+ years on the job and I still love it. Of course, I love all my patients, but I’m partial to the runners :) Just discharged one yesterday!

I’m a first year ob/gyn resident…and I try to steal as much free gloves and toilet paper :) hahaha Still paying off those med school and undergrad loans to buy myself TP. Not sure about the best wrinkle cream but know that Vitamin A is more potent than anything out there.

I’m a RN- my job is:
International disaster emergency response nurse

which means- when there is a big disaster in the world (earthquake, famine, etc..) and the organization I work for will respond- I get a call and within an hour or two hit the air to join our medical team who will respond on the ground- setting up a field hospital. I’ve been to Haiti 2x (post eartquake and during the Cholera issues) and Thailand so far.

I run to stay strong physically, but also to work on my mental toughness…… :)

Thanks SR- I am so beyond blessed to have this job- to help people in a crisis and pray with them or show love. :0

I could not do it without a great husband who can run the show here at home without me and my two kids who pick up the slack. And also a great God who gives me peace, stamina, and blesses my skills so I can do a good job.

Love your blog- one of my favs to read daily.

My mom is a NICU nurse, but sorry — can’t hook you up with any magical creams. I can, however, hook you up with her secret — She puts a squirt of Vitamin E (the one from Trader Joe) and mixes it in her moisturizer. Seriously, my mom’s skin looks AMAZING. She’s 62 and everyone thinks she’s had plastic surgery.

I’m a speech-language pathologist and I work in the schools and pick up some days at the hospital- mostly working with stroke victims, brain injury, cognition and swallowing (I could get you some used mouth swabs to sell with your bed pans if you want). I love working in both sides of my field!

My sis is a nurse, my dad is a neurosurgeon, my bro is a doc, my bro-in law is a doc, and my little bro is going into dentistry and another 2 little bros are going to be docs. Whoa.

doTERRA has great anti-aging cream <–I use it & love it. People always say they like my skin & I totally owe it to that. (doterra.com)
