Normally we are pretty lame and don’t do a whole lot besides sit around and watch American Pickers.
But this past weekend we acted like socialites, doing all sorts of fun and different stuff than we normally do (sitting on the couch watching football eating peanut butter M&Ms).
Friday we took the train down to Del Mar to watch the horse races.
Saturday we went out to dinner in Corona del Mar for the man’s birthday.
Yesterday morning we had a blogger Olympic viewing party in Newport Beach.

Monica was really jealous of my Team USA cat shirt and wanted to immortalize it on film…
Last night was the final act in the birthday weekend celebration; we met Katie and Merrick and friends and fam for dinner in Laguna Beach at Lumberyard.
The hus didn’t know what we were doing, I just told him we had to be in Laguna Beach by 6pm. And then I told him that we were going to enjoy the sunset on the beach so he needed to bring a warm sweater and blankets. (a lie, I’m so sneaky)
Happy Birthday to Katie; her birthday was yesterday!
And then dessert came… I should have snapped a pic but there were 2 desserts (an apple pie tart thing and a banana cream pie) and on another plate were 2 candles with tickets in the middle of them.
The tickets were to Pageant of the Masters that night, a short walk away.
My man had no idea and he loves the Pageant and art in general. We went once about 3 years ago, and it really is amazing – they recreate pieces of art in life-size form with people. incredible.
I pulled some pictures off of Google for you to get an idea:
With the makeup, paint and the stage lighting, you can’t tell that there are real people; it’s almost trippy.
I think there were 6 people in this one painting.
This is the 80th year they’ve been doing the Pageant; each year has a theme but they always finish with Da Vinci’s Last Supper.
It’s held outdoors in the Irvine Bowl (I think it’s called that?); it was a beautiful night last night and packed with people. If you’re ever in Laguna in August, go see this.
Thanks to Merrick for planning everything; my man loved it.

Wow! I’ve never heard of the Pageant before. What an inredible experience!
How fun! What a great evening
what an awesome surprise! happy belated to J & Katie!
ps, i am jealous (read – weeping with jealousy) of your marathon viewing party yesterday. my friends are lame and don’t understand the greatness that is running. sorry guys if you’re reading this
How sad is it that that pageant reminds me of an episode of Gilmore Girls. Nerd alert!
That episode was based on the Pageant of the Masters!!!
Me too! One of my favorite episodes!
Me too!!!! i miss GG
The marathon viewing party sounds like a blast. Love your blog and am impressed with the amount of mileage you clock in each week! Nothing better than getting those runs done early in the morning. 5:00 a.m. here in Florida due to the humidity

That Pageant sounds absolutely amazing. The pictures are incredible. Way cool!
As much as I love being a bum (which I’ve been doing way too much of recently) I just love weekends like that where you do a whole bunch things totally new and different to you! That pageant sounds super duper trippy but fun!
As awesome as that sounds, I’m not going to lie – it would probably freak me out a little bit. That’s like a mannequin come to life nightmare.
Costumes look super impressive though!
So fun! I went last year and loved it. Looks like you guys had a wonderful weekend ; )
That looks awesome! I didn’t even know about the Pageant.
I love the Pageant. I haven’t been in about 5 years but my mom did the makeup for a few years so we went a lot. All the actors are volunteers, as are the makeup artists, it’s really cool. If you have a chance, you should ask for a backstage tour next year. J might enjoy it if he likes art.
How cool is that art!! Art is not something I am in to – but I think I would really enjoy this!
Way too cool….I have never seen some thing like this before …Yes, that is probably b/c I live in MN and stuff like this doesn’t come around here too often.
Did your husband shave??? You must be crying tears of joy
he finally did and yes, there were tears of joy and threats to “never do that again!”
what a fun weekend you had.
Happy Birthday to Katie!!
Looks like you guys had a great weekend!!!!
That’s so cool! I remember seeing something like this on Gilmore Girls, but I didn’t know it happened in real life.
I’ll have to keep a lookout for something like that around Houston!
OMG I’ve been wanting to see that art show since I saw it on Arrested Development. I must add it to my to do next summer. I love the pic of you with the martini!
So funny – my mom asked me today if I had any interest in going to the Pageant of the Masters this weekend! I replied of course and that “Skinny Runner posted about it TODAY!”
Sounds like an awesome evening! So cool! I’ve never heard of such a thing!
I just went to Pageant of the Masters on Friday! I agree, it was definitely a great event, but I was amazed how fake those people look. I don’t really consider myself an “artsy” person but Pageant of the Masters is definitely something a “newb” can enjoy
Is it just me or does the Pageant thing look a tad scary? I have some trouble with mannequins and clowns and the like, so this may not be the show for me but the idea of it sure is cool!
If I end up having nightmares tonight, I’m blaming you, SR. :p
You’ve been doing some cool stuff lately!! The marathon watching party looks so fun!
Amazing weekend! I’m hoping my sis’ birthday dinner this weekend will be as much fun.
It most likely is, but while not being excessively
polished. Keep in mind the juicer, ice-cream maker, egg
poacher, deep fryer an internet the bread developer.
