This morning at 9am Sheila came over to my house and played soccer mom and shuttled Monica and I up to Newport Beach to Sarah’s house for a little Olympics marathon viewing party.
I had never met Sheila before, but she lives like a mile away from me so I’ve hired her to be my driver for life.
She’s super excited about being paid in gels and electrolyte drink mixes.
Shannon, Margot and Heather ready for some marathon action.
Heather just ran the San Fran Marathon and Margot ran the half so I got all jealous of their racing and ignored them both for the whole day.
Margot was making a hard case that dogs do in fact like her and she likes them.
There was a serious mimosa station with OJ, watermelon juice, nectarine puree, pomegranate juice and a couple other mixers that were too fancy for me to remember, blueberry something? It was pretty legit.
And then everyone brought a breakfast item too. Well, except me. I just ate everyone’s food. I’m really a dream guest, aren’t I?
Sheila, Monica and Sarah tasting the goods.
Sarah tivo’ed the race so we started watching it around 10am.
In the immortal words of my mom when she’s cheering me on at races, “Run faster!!!!”
Pam showed up a little later all in spirit. Girl had just run a 5K, took second place and still had time to get her Team America look on. She’s winning at life.
Margot, Kristina (the lone non-blogger, we almost didn’t let her in the house because of it but then we realized she’s way cooler than all of us combined) Sarah and Pam.
Team Eugene roomies
With a room full of women who blog (“I have a website devoted entirely to me”) naturally the conversation flowed and led to us discussing an important subject: race walking.
Demonstrations were had:
And then we watched the marathon finish.
I’m not going to spoil it for you.
Yes, I am.
Gouchagan did not place, but their abs tied for Best in Show.
After the race we inspired to have a race of our own: we took it outside and had a race walking competition on the beach.
We tried to keep it legit in case anyone turns pro in the next year or two so we had heats. My form was a little unorthodox so I dropped out… of embarrassment.
Ready, set, go!
And the winner is…
I actually forgot who won, but I’ll say Shannon since today is her dirty thirty birthday.
Happy Birthday, lady and thanks to Sarah for hosting us all!

Aww so fun! I have the race dvr-ed but haven’t watched yet. I tried to avoid the results but it was impossible.
Blogger party looks like fun! Great idea.
Uh…you clearly know my method of payment. I accept all forms of electrolyte currencies. Oh and Sarah totally won, but she played a little dirty throwing elbows. I think she rewatched the men’s 10k on DVR too many times.
hopefully the race walking caused no cramping or post-walk cool down jogs could help. Awesome watch party. Missing: red white & blue jello shots!
I missed the marathon! I’m so upset!
How fun. I’d gladly be paid in electrolytes to drive someone around. Call me. Race walking looks like fun, the next summer olympic sport?!
Love the magic sparkles on Shannon’s pic. You’re fancy.
thats some quality blogging right there. i mean, im probably like the best blogger in the world.
I wish my face were as fancy as those sparkles. Wowser, did I break your camera?
My heart broke for all three of those USA girls! They are beautiful though, I was so stoked to watch them!
Does Pam have a blog?? If not, she totally should. She keeps popping up in everyone else’s!
Hi Megan. pls e-mail me @ pamula2000@aol.com
Hey! Do you have any idea where Pam got those awesome calve socks?? Or whatever the heck theyre called… I want some.
Hi Lexi. They’re Zensah calf sleeves. They’re not as tight as I’d like but, maybe you can order them a size smaller.
thanks a bunch!
Funny you should mention racewalking. Yesterday, I saw a license plate frame that said “best for fitness: racewalking.” I can’t say that I agree.
I like the “ive got issues” tag!!
I second Alex!
you got some great pics!! you captured our day perfectly.
luv ya!
Party looks so cool! And Happy Birthday Shannon!
Wow, thank you so much! I appreciate that
AHHHH so sad I missed the race! I was taking a nap and totally forgot to DVR it! Oh well I looked up recaps. Seems like a super fun party though!
Fun! I missed the marathon and was sad to see the USA did not place. Oh well – there is always next (4) year
.
Looks like you all had a blast! Running after mimosas? Genius.
I didn’t know Pam blogged! She’s so fast and has the cutest kids, I’d love to read about her runs and such.
How fun, a marathon party! I didn’t get to see the marathon.
Looks like all the cool people are in Socal. I better move in to your spare bedroom so I can hangout. I’ll take care of Marni.
What a fun day!
What a fun marathon party! We don’t have cable so I bribed my good running friend to let me come over to watch the marathon. I was in awe of all the girls and it was motivation to think about signing up for another half marathon.
Funnnnnn. Wish I could have made it. I miss all of you! Stupid moving taking up way too much time. After next weekend I should be a free a woman.
Ok. Can y’all seriously stop having so much fun? I am so jealous of your running friend group. I doubt any of my friends would have come over for an olympics marathon party.
Maybe in four years I’ll give it try!
Okay, so jealous of your fun little bloggy party.
You all are way to cute. Love the race walking.
