After running this morning, my sister-in-law and I got on our plane from Kenai to Anchorage.
In Anchorage we met some real savvy travelers…
Head in backpack.
My family’s first flight was so late that they missed their connecting flight and all other flights were full until the following day.
And their luggage went missing.
Talk about a hectic day.
At least there’s a Yogurtland in the Anchorage airport. Monica, you might want to make a trip up to Alaska now.
Since we had a ton of time and some free airport food vouchers, we had lunch at Chili’s.
Originally the airlines gave them $8 each to eat for the whole day. My mom asked for more and said it was insane to expect anyone to eat at an airport (where everything’s more expensive to begin with) for $2.75 a meal.
Since all their missed flights were the airline’s fault, they ended up receiving about $25 each.
The only thing cheap in the airport? My shirt.
My SIL bought this glittery cat pouncing on flowers with American flags and fireworks shirt at Walmart on clearance for $3 and gave it to me as a joke. Little did she know that I was going to sport it proudly in public.
I think I made her sick… with shame.
While we ate, Nancy the wiener dog sat outside the restaurant with our two carts and stroller. We were like a traveling circus with kids, dogs, luggage galore and one sparkling kitty.
Milagro margarita from Chilis at 11:30am:
Much needed.
It ended up being a huge blessing that the rest of the fam went standby and ended up getting on my flight out of Anchorage because another flight was late which freed up some seats.
Luggage is still missing including car seats and a box of frozen fish, but at least we’re all one step closer to home. Hopefully I’ll be in California around 10:30pm capping off a long day that started at 4am.

Ugh I’ve had my fair share of travel disasters too. I hope everyone makes it home safe-all that matters is that everyone is together, happy and healthy in the end!
What a mess! I hope the rest of your travel day goes better. And your family finds their luggage. Safe travels!

Wearing the tee to meet Jay at the California airport?

Love that shirt!!! I feel it’s quite appropriate during the Olympic season. haha. hope you make it home soon!
I found your blog thru Carrots’N'Cake. I just love your self-irony and your posts make me laugh! Regards from Hanna in Finland =o)
my family is part finnish and scandinavian and my sister in law was planning a trip to finland this fall for us and then got pregnant so that got axed. but thanks for reading!
That explains your brother’s name Matti. It cannot get any more Finnish than that. Will keep reading your posts =o).
I have that shirt but I didn’t buy it to be funny. I like cats and sparkley American flags.
Yea…that shirt is so not you…heck, its sooo not ME and i will wear just about any thing. ha!
We just bought a wiener dog over the weekend! (Actually a mini-dachshund) talk about loving people, attention, and just being part of the family!! Now our only issue is what to do when kids go back to school and I go back to work….I am thinking he has a bit of a separation anxiety already. ;-(
That t-shirt is amazing. How many people gave you looks to check to see if you were a crazy person?
Hopefully your family all gets home safely soon!
Annnd this is exactly why I think you’re the coolest person ever. I love that you rocked that cat shirt. Absolutely awesome.
thanks. no one else thinks so except you…
Sarah- do you have a post on stretching after a run or race? what stretches are the best for runners..how long you hold each stretch, which muscles you stretch the most (focus on)? thanks!!
i do stretch after almost every run and then i ice too.

Excellent post! very helpful! thank you so much! I have recommended your blog to dozens of my fitness friends and they all come back with the same response after reading your blog! “obsessed! and addicted! SR is such an inspiration!”
thanks for all you do to inspire other runners!
I love it- I had a similar shirt with a bunny on it that I would wear to concerts when I was in college. Also bought for me as a joke.
I hate to wait for my luggage after a flight. Last year, they send it back after 2 days of waiting and luckily everything was ok. Hopefully your luggage will be found soon!
And hey, whats wrong with rocking a glitter kitty shirt – actually, you can wear it
What a mess. Flying can be such a pain.
I bet they find the fish quickly or in about a week it will find them;-)
Hope you made it home.
Hopefully none of your travel experiences will be as bad as the ones in that article!
I’ve had some pretty narley travel issues losing luggage, flight delays/cancels…and usually all on Thanksgiving. Ugh. HOpe you get home soon & rest up. Frozen fish? Hope that didn’t go bad!
Love the shirt;)
Hope your luggage turns up somewhere!
So, I think you are the coolest blogger I follow. I was sharing your salmon gear and changing into halibut gear snippet with my boyfriend and he started asking me questions that I have absolutely no idea how to answer. He wants to know how do y’all make sure you make a profit and not be beholden to the fish processors (? is that even a word?) Did y’all negotiate a price prior to going fishing since you can keep the fish on the boat indefinitely?
we sell our fish to a buyer who turns around and ships it, processes it and sells it to the vendor so the buyer is really the one taking all the risk (trying to negotiate prices and sell it fresh for a higher price instead of freezing it and selling it later for less). with salmon, we sell all our fish to one buyer, the cannery we fish for. for halibut, we sell to a independent buyer who we’ve had a relationship with for a long long time. great question!
Mmmmilagromargarita. A fine choice!
Get home safe and with a couple of margs in you! I travel once or twice a month for work and have had some major nightmares. I usually handle them pretty well – but did cry once on the floor of DCA. Yikes.
You are def channeling Pam from True Blood in your walmart shirt!
I can’t believe they only gave you $25 each. I guess if you had peanut butter crackers and a bottle of water each meal, then you might have spent only $25.
Hope you eventually get your stuff back!
you must be funny guy trendseveryday
