This is the year of the big races for me… Boston and Chicago and NYC coming up. I tell myself that I’m not doing any of them next year, but we’ll see… it’s hard to turn down Boston when everyone’s doing it.
But I signed up for a few more marathons:
*On January 13th, I’m going to run the Chevron Houston Marathon for the first time. There’s a lottery (registration is closed now) and I got in so we’re going to Houston, baby.
I think it’s a flat, fast course so depending on how many Christmas cookies I eat, I’ll probably try to run fast and not die.
*On February 17th, I’m going to run the IMS Arizona Marathon in Phoenix again.
It’s a fast course – I ran it last year and ended up with a PR and I didn’t even go in attempting to PR.
And right now the full marathon is only $50 and the half is only $45 <– that’s insanely cheap prices. (Rock ‘n’ Roll AZ is $120 right now)
So I’m definitely in and going to try for a new PR this year.
*On October 20th, I’ll be running the Zooma Great Lakes Half Marathon as a Zooma ambassador. I’ve told you about it before, but if you want to come have a girls weekend and run, use the code ZOOMASR12 to save a couple bucks on registration.
As always, if you want to stalk me, you can check out the Future Fun page for my race calendar. or just peek in my windows, whatever.

That is a super cheap marathon! I’m so tempted to sign up just based on the price!
But I have some marathons this winter.
About 10 people in my running group ran the Houston marathon this year and their were many PR’s! However, I did hear a few complaints about the surface: apparently some of the course is pavement, not asphalt, and although it increases rebound and therefore makes you faster, it hurts the ol’ joints.
I actually have an empty race calendar: injuries will do that to you
Just registered for Extraterrestrial Full Moon Midnight Marathon. Kinda nervous about the start time. Tempted to register for the IMS since I live in AZ but also don’t like registering for marathons too far in advance.
I have a hard time committing to a race so far in advance
Next big race for me in the Air Force Marathon September 15th. Can’t wait. I am trying really hard to find someone who would like to sell their bib to the Marine Corp Marathon in October. Do you know anyone?
Cool, you’re coming to Phoenix. My friend was just telling me about a free half marathon on February 17th. I’m running a half marathon the very next weekend (February 24th) so am not sure about doing 2 half’s back to back. I’m not the talented runner you are.
My next half marathon is Disneyland 9-2-12! Can’t wait!
Truthfully, I am going to start a 12 week trng plan to run my first half on 10/13. The Cannonball Run in Greensboro, NC. I’m nervous and excited. I have also wanted to start a blog for awhile now and think I have the motivation to do it. (thanks for the inspiration.) I loook forward to your daily updates and will keep reading for more motivation!! Thanks!!
I’m running the Houston full. If you stick around for another hour and half after you finish, you might see me!
Yay I’m doing Chicago Marathon, Houston half (3rd year of getting via lottery!) Dallas half, and Austin Marathon in February. SR you should do Austin someday, there are hills but the course is good , lots of crowd support & Austin is such a fun town. My friend and I rented the CUTEST house from VRBO. DO it!
I’m considering signing up for my first ever half (the Hershey Half Marathon in October 2012). I just started running in April, and I’m still painfully slow, but the racing bug has already bitten me!
I’m also running the Zooma half in Wisconsin and really looking forward to the champagne and necklace at the end!
I have run Houston- it’s a good course- very flat, but there is a lot of concrete. AND, I am totally going to come see you and hold a sign for you and bring you candy.
Any interest in running Austin a month later?
Next up for me is Ragnar NW, Hood to Coast, then Marine Corps Marathon. I’m not allowing myself to sign up for any races after MCM until after MCM because I need to wait and see how I feel. I tend to get excited right before races and get a little crazy with registrations and do too much.
Houston is a great flat course and usually great running weather. So glad you are coming to Houston to run!
um. ur my hero. bye.
Chicago! Not registered for anything else at the moment. We’ll see how that race goes
I’ll be running Houston for the second time in 2013, it’s a great race!! Allen Parkway is a killer but I will defeat it this time around.

On friday, I signed up for the Rock N Roll Los Angeles half (Oct. 28). I’m also signed up for the August OC Fair 5k, the Iron Girl Del Mar 10k and the Holiday Half on Dec. 9 in Pomona
- so many races this year!
You’re tempting me to make a trip to Houston in Jan to see my bro + fam and cheer you on! Anyway, did a double this weekend – Saturday evening and this morning…so it’ll be a while before I can start running again. My lower limbs are basically immobile now. LOL!
my next (planned) race isn’t until thanksgiving, where I’ll do the local turkey trot and hopefully keep up with my tradition of PRs! Sometimes there are races on base that are free though, so maybe I’ll do some of those. Good luck with the marathon training!
Looks like a fun race year you have planned so far. Chicago and NYC are on my bucket lists.
The next (and only) race on my calendar is Ironman Canada at the end of August. I can’t believe how quickly it is sneaking up on me!
Hey Hey from down unda!
I got into the Houston Marathon too, and I will be flying home in Jan from Oz to run it! I’ve run it before, and yes, it is is a flat course (except the last few miles–slightly uphill). I’m hoping to get a PR there as well as long as my body doesn’t rebel on me.
I just ran the Gold Coast Half (in Oz) and am going to run the Melbourne Half in October. Oz doesn’t do races like the good ole USA–the race shirts are fugly.
I live in Houston! I ran it last year (my first Marathon) and I’m running it again this year. It is pretty flat for the most part. Some hills early and rolling hills on Allen Parkway the last few mills that almost did me in but shouldn’t bother you too much. I’ll be on the look out for you (in a very not stalked way I promise
)
I am going to do the Arizona Half in Oct. That is a cheap one. And then I saw something about a “Free” race in Phoenix sometime in Feb I think.
The Kidless Kronicles
Marine Corps Marathon!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in Houston and do the Chevron every year! Super fun, not the most awesome scenery
, but the support from spectators can’t be beat. Southern hospitality y’all!!!
If you want a good flat course think about racing in Philly sometime!
I live in Houston, so I’ll definitely have to come cheer you on
I will be running the Houston Marathon as well!!! It will be my first full and I am excited. Maybe I will be able to see you, if your still hanging around when I finish!!! lol I have been ridiculously stalking your blog for over a year now.
$50 for a marathon is insanely cheap! I thought Hartford was cheap and it’s $85. I’m not even sure when my next race is. I have a bunch of short ones lined up and then a marathon in September.
My next race is the ColorRun 5K In AMesbury, MA. Signing up for my first Half Marathon This week on Wednesday. It’s the B.A.A Half Marathon in Boston, MA. It takes place On October 7, 2012! Super psyched! been planning on running a half marathon for 2 years. (after half-assed training 2xs) this time I’m in full training mode for this one!
The San Francisco Marathon in 2 weeks!!
Houston, and it will be my first marathon! Hopefully I’ll see you there!
Im super intrigued by the great lakes half. I’m in Michigan so that’s not to terribly far from me! I’m sorta excited!
Live in houston and got a spot in theHouston Marathon too! Can’t wait! It’s a great race!
I live in Houston and there aren’t that many hills, you should be fine. I am running the 1/2, hopefully, I will see you.
Sounds like you’ve got some awesome races to look forward to! I need to start planning my spring races. I have a half next weekend (the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago half) and then the Chicago Marathon. I feel like the end of July to early October is a really long time to go without a race, so I think I’m going to try to find a few shorter races to run in the interim.
Doing my second ever half marathon, Bellingham Bay half in September and Arizona Rock n Roll in January. Ok, now I am slightly bummed because I hoped you would be there and I could get the coveted SR photo!
I’ve never heard of the IMS marathon and now I’m intrigued, my dad snow-birds in Surprise, AZ right where the race starts–if my legs hold out I think I’d like to do both. $50 bucks for the half and a place to stay with pool? Want to pop by for a visit? I’ll have candy too! Bribe, wink, nudge-nudge.
ok, free candy and im there.
You inspire me!
Hi SR!
I’m doing Houston as well! I am a native Houstonian, and it’s my first marathon! I love your blog, it’s given me a lot of inspiration! AND, I’m a Texas Tech grad like Jaymo
Anyways, see you in Houston
Meredith
I’m doing the Marine Corps Half because it’s close to me. I want to do the Disney for my next full marathon!
I love reading your blog! You are one motivated women!!
Next up for me is Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half this weekend!
I got into the half marathon for Houston and I’m excited! I will also be running the Full in Dallas and the half in Austin for the Marathons of Texas Medal! Super excited you will be there!
Once again, I’m running Houston too. This will be my 4th Houston in a row- going for the “veteran” status (5 years). It’s a flat, fast course as long as the weather cooperates. Crowd support is good for most of it too.
In order, I’ve got:
Silver Comet 1/2, Green 1/2, Sugarland 30K, Houston, RNR Mardi Gras, Sugarland 1/2.
I’m running the Chevron Houston Half Marathon with my son in January 2013. We should meet up and introduce in person! Can’t wait to meet you. You will love the crowd support at the Houston Marathon. All of us bloggers should meet up!
