The 12,000 calorie cake diet

by SkinnyRunner on June 26, 2012

WORKOUT -

(yesterday) – Elliptical 60 mins

(today) – REST, walked dog 3 miles

The other day only my right knee was super sore and tender.  I don’t know why, but I iced it a couple times a day, took yesterday off from running, and wore a Salonpas pain patch that I had received from a race which is why I looked supersexy:

It worked because I woke up this morning with the knee feeling normal again, but I took today as a rest day because I had a really hard day (see below).

YESTERDAY

Yesterday afternoon I went to the gym, did some elliptical action and then went straight to Costco.  The thing is yesterday was a really PMSy, emotionally crazy, my husband probably hates his life and his wife day so I took it out on Costco.  makes total sense if you think about it.

I bought all this produce:

001 (800x438)

I am leaving in one week from today…. One of my man’s life missions is to get by with eating as little produce as humanly possible….  And I bought 3 containers of grape tomatoes…  What is wrong with me?!

It could have been worse.  I could have ordered one of everything off the cake wall:

My regret stained tears are still falling.

I found this picture from the blog Addicted to Costco.  I’m pretty sure my parents started a blog and didn’t tell me.

This is not my cart although I kinda wish it was.

By the way, I looked it up and there are 48 servings in a Costco cake; the white cake with buttercream frosting has 260 calories per 2.7 ounce serving.

That means an entire cake has only 12,480 calories.  So go ahead and eat a quarter of it because I’ve founded a new diet plan.

Anyways, instead of a 98 serving cake, I bought a $9 package of smoked salmon.  I love the stuff but normally don’t buy it because it’s pricey and I can chow through a package in no time, but yesterday I was psycho and it somehow made me feel better.

And then I bought a Costco workout tank:

003 (800x443)

I love these longer tanks that are only $12.99 and apparently so does everyone else because I picked up the only medium; all that was left was XS and L.

TODAY

  My day in pictures:

{Laid out and read the 2nd Bridget Jones book}

Like I said, today was tough; someone please feel bad for me.

Or feel free to punch me in the face.

Note to self: some people have to actually work and no, making sure your tan is equal on both sides does not count as work.

{Midafternoon coffee date}

019 (426x800)

{Froyo date}

I’m gonna go start my new cake diet right now.  and maybe find a job.  or a life.

LOL! You’re right, he doesn’t look happy in that pic.

I love those Costco tanks! I lucked out and scored one in all five new colors a month or so ago. LOVE them!

Costco is the BEST. Honestly, when I am super upset and in a crabby mood, walking though stores [like Target] always makes me feel better. Good Luck with those grape tomatoes! Oh and I am pretty sure I am not going to eat a Costco cake until I forget the calorie information! :)

I would kill to find XS anything at my costco!

Confession: I have 12 of those Costco tanks. I’ve only bought 1 of the new colors as a major exercise in self control! They are the best.

Gone in a week? Is it fishing time again? You know maybe in your absence jaymo can post all about golf in Scotland. I would love it :) . (I am totally serious)

Meg June 27, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I second that!

Reply

Meg I don’t think it is going to happen :( I mentioned it on two different posts and SR hasn’t said a thing.

I love that kind of cake with the thick, sweet icing!
I’m totally jealous of your day. Sometimes I think i should have a baby just so I get my year of mat leave! (I’m mostly kidding.)

Costco tanks? Who knew…ha!…apparently every one but me…plus, I only have a Sam’s membership. ;-(

Yep, Jayman is looking kind of pitiful. ha!

I think you know you are super healthy when you are feeling PMSy you buy vegetables instead of stuff your face full of ice cream. Your post makes me miss my costco membership.

However you can do this and still be able to buy groceries is awesome. I’m jelz of yo life.

Yesterday, I could’ve eaten that entire cake by myself. In less than five minutes. Easy.

I hear those Costco tanks are similar to lululemon’s cool racer backs! True?

Reply

Lisa June 26, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Haha, you are awesome. I wish my costco had those tanks! Definitely didn’t last time I was there, maybe that’s because Canada is annoying, and they fall behind on everything that’s cool. I hope your knee stays feeling better!

You should try the Trident hot smoked peppered sockeye. Have you? It’s melt in your mouth amazingly good and I’m not that fond of smoked salmon. Funny, considering I work for a seafood company. It’s my go to gift for dad–so hard to buy for!
Your day of sun and yogurt sounds luscious! I’m spit-out-eyeballs envious. But in a good way.

Ever tried those Rocktape or KT Tape (can’t remember the exact name! Sorry!) for your knee/muscles/quads/calves?

Man, I wish I liked fish. So many options. Especially at Costco. Luckily they have enough free samples to get me through lunch, though. Are you headed out fishing? I was wondering why the sad face on Jaymo! FroYo-free diets will do that to you.

I always want to try that salmon, but sm too cheap. Ha. I didn’t know Cosfco made workout tanks either. Cute. :) I would need a little extra padding though. Ha.

I wish I had a Costco membership! Those tanks are so cute and so inexpensive! I finally visited TJMaxx yesterday because I heard they had cheap workout clothes. I only ended up leaving with one workout tank, though, because nothing else fit properly. Bummer!

Yikes, are you ok? Also, that is a ton of produce.

Are you not fishing this season? Must be nice to just ease through while the rest of us make the daily grind every day….as you can tell I’m super jealous! Get a tan for both of us!

Reply

Meg June 27, 2012 at 6:44 pm

I don’t think running marathons on a regular basis is easing through. Plus fishing around the clock at times. If I didn’t make more $$ then my hub I’d quit my job yesterday.

Although the cake is 12,000 plus calories, it still makes my mouth water. I’m a weakling when it comes to cake.

Reply

meghan June 27, 2012 at 5:53 am

I’m so happy to hear that you go crazy too. I do sometimes and totally understand the need to buy $9 salmon. My fiance also believes I am the only one…I’ll have to fill him in.

Kelly Jo June 27, 2012 at 6:34 am

Sister, making sure your tan is even on both sides is work!!!!! I am very anal about my legs being the same all the way around!!!! LOL I love your blog!!!!!!

Probably a dumb question but how do you eat/serve the smoked salmon? I want to try it but the suggestions I see are to serve it with cream cheese and (fill in the blank) and I hate cream cheese. Is it good just on its own with a cracker, or on top of salad?

Reply

Jac @ Challenged and Running in the Bike Lane June 27, 2012 at 7:26 am

I eat smoked salmon straight up! I love the stuff. :-) But you could put it on a cracker, drizzle with some EVOO (or not) or add some capers. Yum!

Reply

SkinnyRunner June 27, 2012 at 8:14 am

i eat plain or on top of a salad but yeah, a lot of people eat it on a cracker with cream cheese and dill on top.

Cute cheap tops! I need to get my bootay to Costco! I spend way too much at Lulu!

I need to work on my tan ASAP. This work thing is really starting to be a PITA lately.

Was the coffee flavored or not? It looks so good.

Someone get me a Costco membership STAT so I can go get me some of those tanks! And some cake.. and then I’ll need the tanks when I’m running all the miles to burn off that cake!

Reply

Heather June 27, 2012 at 8:17 am

Apparently I need a Costco membership. Oh, and I need to figure out how to retire. So much to do….

I’ve never taken my emotions out on Costco before, but I can totally see how that could happen! Haha :)

Reply

michelle kim June 27, 2012 at 10:12 am

Pretty sure it’s fair if your husband gets emotional for eating Yogurtland in front of him when he can’t have any… I know I would throw a hissy fit if I was in his shoes ;P
Glad the knee is feeling better!

It literally cracks me up to see that all runners love froyo as much as I do…and candy. I’m eating candy as we speak and I can’t get enough of it. So great to know we all love candy, froyo, cake, cookies, brownies, butterscotch chips, and anything with sugar in it. Gotta love runners!

Bri @ ShapedforFitness June 27, 2012 at 10:51 am

I just bought that pink tank at Costco too! I’m actually having buyers remorse because I have so many dang racerback tanks, do I really need another one? My rationalization was that I’m teaching more classes so I need more workout gear = less laundry. . . . .
Did you notice the tanks used to be $6.97, sold out immediately, and now the price is $12.99?

Reply

Meg June 27, 2012 at 11:54 am

That’s a lot of tomatoes! I have a feeling you’re going to be salad’ing it up for bfast all week sans the oatmeal!

Reply

Beth @ Miles and Trials June 27, 2012 at 12:45 pm

I totally know what you mean about being PMSy and taking it out on Costco. One time I was at Whole Foods feeling that way. I almost had to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay for that!

Reply

Losing Lindy June 27, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I saw those tanks, and wasn’t quite sure how well they fit. I bought a pair of Tommy Hilfiger (sp?) shorts there, I love them.

How in the world are you going to be able to finish those tomatoes? I would end up with sores in my mouth.

Reply

chacha June 28, 2012 at 6:43 am

I need to go to Costco more often (I haven’t been in more than a year – the husband always goes for me) because I think I am missing out on some clothing deals.

Speaking of produce – I joined a CSA last week and pick up is at work today, so we’ll see I have a boatload of green items to somehow consume in 7 days. Husband and I might have to get some stock in TP with all that fiber!
