Spoiler:
I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon this morning as part of Team Refuel.
It was tough, I felt out of shape, and I ran a 3:32. I’ll have the full recap up tomorrow.
After the race Chandra, Monica and I hobbled over to Du-par’s Restaurant and Bakery because it was right next to our hotel and when you’re starving, food is food. If you’ve read this, you’ve already know what’s next.
It ended up being a decent choice with some interesting history: there’s 5 locations throughout Southern California and the original restaurant opened in 1938. They had souvenir menus from then at the cash register; I took a peek and saw that a “hamburger sandwich” cost .20.
Prices have gone up slightly since then, but the food was still good.
With our meals we received homemade banana nut bread and monster dinner rolls that required two hands to lift.
CHANDRA
Monica and I both had Chef salads, good but nothing mind blowing. I’m guessing they’re probably more known for their homemade baked goods than their salads. I mean, we can’t all be Souplantation winners.
Finished off with a Twix bar that Anna bought on the street for us.
I’m working hard to perfect the nostril pose, but it still needs a little work.
Something else interesting that the restaurant is doing is a “Beat the Clock” promotion:
The new “beat the clock” program will offer reduced portions at a reduced price. The all-inclusive menu, offered between 4:00 – 6:00, will include soup or salad and entree, with four different meals each day. The price will change to reflect the time.
If you arrive at 4:00, the meal will cost $4.00; at 4:22, the meal will cost $4.22; at 5:00, the meal will cost $5.00. The earlier you come, the better the deal.
Kinda cool idea, huh? I’d be waiting in line at 3:59pm to get my $4 meal.
As I was doing blog research or as I call it, Googling, I found out that Rachel Bilson and her younger sister went to the Du-par’s in Studio City a couple years ago. And Selena Gomez did too. Astounding stuff, I know.
Now that I’m back home in the OC, I’m gonna try to go make Monica proud and watch a bunch of bad reality TV.
*Congrats to PAM who had a huge PR today!

I like the beat the clock idea but I’m amazed that you can eat anything after running. I have zero appetite after running any distance and have to force myself to eat something.
Can’t wait to hear the details of the race. Enjoying bad reality sounds like my kind of Sunday!
Not a bad pace for feeling so “out of shape.” Nice job, and I hope your butt/piriformis is ok. Such an annoying nagging injury/discomfort. Sometimes, the muscle and ligament injuries are more annoying than the bone injuries, because they seem to stick around forever and like to sneak back into your life if they’ve been absent for awhile. I have bad plantar fasciitis and was actually hoping it was a stress fracture. Anyways, hope you’re feeling better, and I look forward to your recap!
Love the Beat the Clock idea.
Thanks for posting the worst picture of me.
Our friendship is over in 3…2…1…
You still killed it girl & I would’ve been at the bakery right after too..hmmm..wonder if there was a red velvet cupcake dying to be adopted
congrats girls!
Congrats girls! yum…red velvet cupcake anywhere ??
Sucks if you get hungry at 5pm!
Man, I would have had my greasy paws all over those elephant sized dinner rolls!
I wish I could say I am out of shape and still run a 3:32 marathon!
! I hope I get there one day.
You are awesome
Round of applause for everyone!
Awesome job rocking the marathon even after taking such a big break! Don’t forget compression for recovery
I wish I was that out of shape to run that time!
You can’t just mention Pam got a PR and not say what it is!
HRG said it was a 3:21:06. Super fast!
Congrats on the amazing time for the full mary!! It takes me almost that long to run a half mary! LOL
Considering you basically haven’t run in a month…..AWESOME marathon time. Congrats!!
Nice job on the race after a big break in running!
thanks mi amiga!!
you did GREAT out there today! Your stamina & drive always knocks my socks off! xo
CHEERS!!!!
Congrats on pushing through a tough mental race. I agree that the course is kind of lame. San Diego is such a beautiful place and they make you run on the dreadful, slanted route 163 for miles. It’s complete rubbish. (I just wanted to sound british).
And second, I just read your Jackie Warner post. I love her and really wish WORKOUT was still on Bravo! I was so sad when it ended. I’ve done some of her workouts and I’m always nicely sore and satisfied the next day.
