Orange and Yellow: time for the Eugene Marathon

by SkinnyRunner on April 29, 2012

Hey y’all, I’m in Oregon, can you tell?

001 (550x479)

Since most of my family now lives in Oregon and some of my relatives went to U of O, I gotta go with the green and yellow even though I think those are some ugly colors together.  Actually, now that I think about it, my aunt went to Oregon State so I’m gonna have to root for orange and yellow together.

I arrived in Eugene yesterday around noon and was picked up by a car of crazies: Sarah, Emily and Margot.  We then hit up the race expo so Margot and I could pick up our race bibs.

002 (477x640)004 (490x640)

The expo was a lot like last year’s: small and decent but not anything different from any other smaller race expo. I did see superstar Lauren Fleshman, creator of PickyBars, speaking:

003 (640x512)

The girls did a little gel shopping while I imagined Lauren and I frolicking on the beach together.

005 (509x640)

006 (640x558)

Me, Emily, Sarah and Margot.  Thanks, random dude for immortalizing my greasy face on film, thanks so much.

After the expo and a few last minute race errands, we headed to the house that Sarah rented through VRBO.  It’s really cute and even cheaper than staying at a hotel for the weekend.  Plus we have a full kitchen to make dinner and most importantly, morning coffee.

008 (514x640)011 (503x640)

Afternoon blogging, Facebook stalking and whatever else you do online commenced…

009 (640x499)

Emily and Sarah, I’m sure contributing to the betterment of society.  or twitter.

010 (553x640)

And then the masterpiece was created.  We should have held a pasta dinner and charged for it, there was so much good food.

012 (513x640)

Please note the orange knife pointed at Margot’s head.  Whoever said we’re all friends got it all wrong.

013 (640x551)

Can you guess Emily’s contribution to the evening?

014 (502x640)

We had more loaves of garlic bread than a bakery, whole wheat pasta and salad, a good pre-race meal…. or should I say, PRE race.

I’m off to run with Margot and hopefully get her a shiny new PR.

Off to run #33

I love the Eugene Marathon! I ran it last year. Have a great time and can’t wait to see race pics and read the recap. I hear the weather is great this weekend.

Can’t wait to see your recap! Renting a house and having a kitchen for a marathon would be sooo nice! I’m just lucky to be running a very local marathon next month so I can drive there in 10-15 minutes!

I love that movie! I watch Without Limits before every big race I have. ;) Um, not that my Half Marathons are big, but still. It’s a really motivating movie. Run with guts!

Hey, halfers are real runners, too. Haven’t you seen that shirt that says “Only half crazy – 13.1″ I love it. but I think I’m making the jump to the full mary this year. :-/ (that’s my scared face)

Go SR! My twin sister and I just ran our first half marathon this morning, couldn’t have done it without reading your blog! Every time I had a question about training I checked this thing!

Sarah–not to sound totally stalkerish, but I saw you by the portapotties before the race! I pointed you out to my friend (she thought I was kind of a weirdo for being excited) but didn’t get a chance to catch up to say hi and good luck. Hope you guys had a great race and that Margo PRs! The weather was perfect for racing. I had registered for the full but dropped back to the half due to lack of training and IT issues. The conditions were great and I was able to get a HM PR by over 2 minutes. Pretty happy.

I love getting a vacation rental with friends. It’s a bit cheaper and you have space to do your own thing. Check our airbnb.com too. We’ve stayed in some great places there as well.

Thinking of using VRBO for finding a place to stay in Montreal for the Montreal marathon. What did ya’ll think about it. Weird? Creepy? Awesome?

Reply

SkinnyRunner April 30, 2012 at 12:17 pm

i think its awesome. every time we go to mammoth we vrbo a place and it always works out. a lot of times its cheaper because you can negotiate directly with the owner.
