WORKOUT – TM
run in hotel gym
7.1 miles/65 mins
1.o incline
nice and very easy miles
I woke up this morning feeling really good, no soreness or achiness at all so I went down to the nice little hotel gym and watched the news for an hour while running some 9ish minute miles.
The marathon heat advisory is now on the news; they’re saying it could be 88 degrees tomorrow and are allowing deferred entry until next year because of the heat.
{I’ll have the race recap up this afternoon, but if you’re on twitter, you can see my results and a couple pictures}
Man Up Miles tally:
49.15
YESTERDAY
After the race, I met Kari for lunch in Narragansett at Cool Beans Café.
Kari is a marathoner, blogger and now works for Aspaeris compression shorts so we talked about all sorts of things from barefoot running to Las Vegas to compression tights.
After lunch we said goodbye and then drove back to Boston and to our hotel which is really nice except the beds are full-sized. sucks for my parents!
None of us brought swimsuits, but some of our hotels for the week have hot tubs and my dad loves to tub so my mom and I went to Old Navy and bought cheap suits. That one drying on the mirror is my mom’s. I bought this top and this bottom.
I might have to run in my swimsuit since it’s could be record high temps on Monday. Did you read that the marathon is now allowing runners an extra hour to finish?
Anyways, after we checked in we took the T to the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston. I think it’s considered downtown. I don’t know really.
Why hello, turdface. You’re so cool wearing your sunglasses indoors.
The cemetery where Paul Revere, John Hancock and Bernie Mac are buried. ok, maybe not Bernie.
Old City Hall
We made a Freedom Trail detour at Quincy Market and Faneuil Marketplace for a quick lunch. This place was insane – it’s a huge, long building packed with little fast food-type stalls with every sort of food imaginable. It’s what I imagine heaven for foodies is.
so many choices, so much pressure.
My dad had an Italian squid salad that was amazing (sounds gross but it was AMAZING), and I had a roast beef sandwich and huge pickle. The sandwich was just average, nothing great. I’d definitely try one of the other 7000 choices next time.
After face stuffing, we got back on the trail and saw the Paul Revere statue and his house. We just can’t get enough of homeboy.
Then we kept the fun going by heading into the North End where all the Italian restaurants are. We walked around some more and had a beer (super girly Riesling for me) at a sports bar; seriously is there any professional sport that doesn’t have a team in Boston?! Curling, maybe?
And then we went to eat some more. We heard great things about Giacomo’s but didn’t want to wait an hour or more so we ended up at Café Pompeii because the wait wasn’t too long. With the marathon and all the sports games going on, the North End was packed.
My dad loved his seafood pasta dish, but my mom and I thought ours was just okay.
Thanks Dad for taking all the pictures of us and making us feel like celebs! Normally I have to take all the pictures of myself and feel like a tool…

Sounds like your really having a good time. Stay safe tomorrow! Good Luck!
So cool that you are traveling with your Mom & Dad. Have a good race tomorrow!
Oh my goodness. That is going to be one hot run. Sounds like it may be as hot as the 2007 Chicago Marathon! Kinda glad I’m not running in that heat tomorrow, though I’m sure you’ll do awesome! Love the pics of you and your parents. What fun : ) Love Boston (the city) as well as the marathon… probably my favorite. Best of luck tomorrow!
You and your mom are so cute. I LOVE the pic of you on Twitter with the matching shirts. <3 <3
Looks like a fun time! I’ve been to Boston once but a long time ago. I should probably take a trip back someday. Good luck tomorrow and be wary of the freakishly warm April day!
Did you lay down at the place where the Boston Massacre was and pretend to be dead? Because that’s what my friend and I did. Had to get in character and such…
I used to watch the Travel channel but no need now that I am a faithful reader of your blog! I love reading about your travels! Good luck on this whole week! I will be praying for you!
Have fun and stay safe tomm!
You’re staying in my hood!
I am really nervous about tomorrow and have flip flopped on deferring all day.
I wish boston had better quality food…as say, nyc! I live/work near f-hall and the food there = yuck!
hope you get a lobster roll from neptunes or jhooks before you leave! Good luck tmrw! Stay cool
will be following you tomorrow
I know you have plenty of experience and you will know what to do to stay safe and hydrated..this will be hard but you can do this! all the best to you…!
Stay safe tomorrow and good luck!
Yikes, sounds like it’s going to be a killer hot day for the race!! :/ I hope it starts early enough to avoid some of the heat!
the bikini may chafe, but you’ll be the best lookin runner!
I love how you sight-see wherever you travel to! I hardly ever go to the east coast, so reading about it is pretty cool, thanks!! Hydrate hydrate hydrate! Wishing you the best at Boston!!!!! \o/ (that’s me cheering for you on the sideline, hehe)
Faneuil Hall is crazy! I’ve been there many times and still haven’t tried everything that I want. Some is good others, meh.
Good luck tomorrow! I hope everyone is smart that runs.
I might just be stating the obvious here (and also somewhat selfishly wanting to make sure you come home in one piece for Ragnar), but pretty please take it slower than normal tomorrow – we don’t want you side-lined from Man Up Week b/c of heat stroke. Sorry if that came out Mom-ish and annoying. But I am seriously worried for all the runners that are going to be out there tomorrow. Anyway, Good luck! I hope the forecast is miraculously wrong and you get lots of cool breezes.
Good luck & stay safe tomorrow! And continue to enjoy your awesome Man Up Week.
BTW, for your celeb files: Elizabeth Hasselbeck ran the More+Fitness Half Marathon in NYC this morning. She was surprisingly fast and came in around 1:40! Not too shabby!
Oh man. This makes me irrationally angry because I can’t stand Elizabeth Hasselbeck! New goal… beat Hasselbeck!
She beat me by ONE MINUTE. You can imagine how much I’m stewing about that… FWIW, I ran the half as part of a 20-mi run. Not like the results care or anything.
Be careful in the heat tomorrow. can’t wait to hear all about your race!
Mom and dad SR are so cute! That’s so cool that you get to tour the city with them. Good luck tomorrow!
Good luck tomorrow!!!!!!!!
I was just talking to my Mom, who ran the Boston Marathon when celebrated it’s 100th year, and she mentioned that that year, it was about 85 degrees…..yikes!!!! You’ll be amazing!
Ah! You spelled my name wrong. lol
When you did the freedom trail, did you take it all the way to the battlefield? That tour is SO LONG!
Good luck tomorrow!
Good luck! I looove all of your pictures, they make me miss Boston so much!!
I may have to unfollow you for skipping Giacomo’s–we lived in Boston for 3 years and ate there more times than I can count! It’s far and away my fave place. If you have time you should go back about a half an hour before it opens when the line is short.
Good luck tomorrow!
(And I’m kidding about unfollowing–I was just jealous you had the chance to eat the best food on the planet and didn’t get to!_
OMG, I highly recommend Giacomo’s, it is simply the best! I worked less than one mile from the one in Back Bay and I often found myself there!!
88 omg
I laugh because Boston is my closest major city and you’ve seen 100% more of Boston than I have!!!! Run well tomorrow!
Awww. . . you and your parents are so cute!! I’m so glad they were able to be there to cheer you on.
Good luck tomorrow!!
I must put that Quincy Market and Faneuil Marketplace in my list if I head to Boston. Love your pictorial holiday post!
OMG! Your mom looks sooo young! Glad you got in some family time. Hope you did great in the marathon today.
Last time I was in Boston, I was so mad the whole time b/c my stomach was too full to eat all the things I wanted to try! Looks like a fun trip!
