It looks so beautiful there. I am dreaming that someday my hubs and I will have to be by coastal for work so we will have to have a house in CA too. Ahhh that would be nice.
I did Ragnar Wastach back I guess 2 years ago now. It was great and a lot of fun but not sure if I will do it again. Reasons why… Sleeping in the car (really just trying and never sleeping successfully) is not my thing. Food, there just wasn’t enough of the right stuff. Like I wanted a meal or something besides gas station food and it was super hard to come by. Water, thirsty all the time. Oh yeah and the porta-pottys. Yuck, I was so over going to the bathroom in those. My best tip is either find a hotel along the way or rent a super big comfy van. Trust me, the more room the merrier.

Poor button!

Hope your nephew is ok!!

Holy crap that bunny is terrifying! Is your nephew ok??
This post reminds me, the magnets for your Ragnar vans are in the mail!
-
CJ
Aww…hope Sutton Button is on the mend.
-
As a mom of three kids I refuse to run a relay. If I’m getting away from the little ones for 48 hours you better believe it will be in a nice hotel to sleep not a stinky van
-
Hope your nephew is OK!
I would love to run a relay; sounds like the best part of your Man Up week. My advice: bring enough bodyglide!
Have you guys planned your uniforms yet? -
Oh no!!! What happened to Button?! And seriously, one look at that “bunny” would put anyone in the psych-ward. Wow.
Good luck with the relay! I have no words of wisdom, so uh, just RUN!
-
SkinnyRunner
he got sick with an infection but is doing well now! minus the new bunny-phobia….

Super creepy! Hope Button is okay!! That cake looked awesome by the way
-
Give your nephew a bunch of well wishes and we wish him a speedy recovery!
-
Oh wow, if I were Sutton Button, I would be scared out of my mind if that creepy bunny came up to me! Hope he feels better ASAP, although I bet the bunny set him back a few days.
-
awww…poor Button! I hope he’s okay! Thinking of him & your family.

YES! Souplantation! And I hope your nephew is ok…that bunny is just wrong.
-
Please add that picture to reasons I won’t be able to sleep this week. Jeez. That poor child hahaha. PS, love the blog. Always so fun and inspiring for those of us that are running challenged.

I hope your nephew is ok! Prayers going his way for sure!

That bunny is so creepy. I hope your nephew is OK!!

Beautiful pics!
I’m volunteering at the ragnar. I’ll be happy to help you cheat, I mean win…for a fee of course.
Have fun. Looks like an awesome time! -
Donnie Darko, what a cool movie! I dropped a couple of Donnie Darko references when we saw a freaky easter bunny at a local egg hunt, and most folks just looked at me like “what?” The movie is definitely worth a look at the directors ‘extended cuts’, with all the benefits of an acid trip, no side efffects.
-
I will definitely be praying for your nephew, for his health and that he can forget he ever saw that “bunny.”
-
Sutton's mama
This made me laugh out loud. Sutton is feeling much better, he got RSV and then pneumonia, which combined with his heart defect made things a little scary. But he is home and eating chocolate bunnies now! Thanks to everyone for your good thoughts and prayers

I hope everything is OK with your nephew! :/ And I’m sure that creepy-looking bunny didn’t help him any! Geez!!

How does the ultra relay work? Do you run 6 different times or do you double up the 3 legs into double distance? It’s going to be Si fun!!
-
SkinnyRunner
you can do it either way but we’re doing 3 legs each.
-
-
I’ve looked into relays and they are too expensive. Between the van rental, gas, race fee, hotels at the start and at the destination…..it adds up fast.

Hey SR!
I am a long time fan and fellow runner enthusiast. Anyway, my friends and I have done two 6 person ultra relays and are doing another one in July (Mass Dash)! Below are a few of my (our) tips.
1. Brings LOTs of clothes to change into
and be prepared to be super stinky and sleep deprived
2. Around the night prepare to make the back seat of your van a mini bed of sorts
3. Lots of TUMs/antacids and Ibprofen
4. Lots of fun pump up music that you can listen to (and dance to) so other 12 person groups can think you are crazy
5. Plan to bring lots of snacky food that your stomachs can handle
6. Have fun!!!!Doing a 6 person ultra relay is one of my favorite memories and I am SO excited for July

u guys do team planning up right…if u bring cake they will come, right?
good luck, i’ve never run a relay but i’ve had friends and they always comment: make sure all of ur team members are hygienic on the whole, u will get stanky regardless, but if the person never uses deodorant and tends to have BO every other day, it will be a stank-attack bomb ready to explode. haha…u guys will have fun!
-
Glad to see you are back! I went to your site yesterday and was like “WTF?” Then went to RER and it wasn’t working either. The blog world was temporarily over.
I hope your nephew is better and not traumatized for life by that bunny!
-
Stacey
I do not like relays. Waiting for your turn stinks!
-
Oh no, why hospital. Poor little guy I hope all is well. And man that is one scary photo!!!
I have never run a relay and probably never will, way too slow for anyone to want me on their team.
I love that beach at the Montage, so beautiful. I am too poor to ever stay there so just go and enjoy the grounds for the day and sleep in my cheap apartment ; )

Relays are sooo fun. I have done Ragnar the last two years. Love it.
One thing that was super helpful the first year was our captain printed off directions for all out legs on small cards. The were small enough to fit in a spibelt or your water bottle holder. They were laminated too.
It was super helpful for me on one of my night legs that had lots of tuns through a town I was unfamiliar with.
Don’t forget lots of noise makers, and music. We made cd’s this year so there was no lull in the fun tunes. The radio stations don’t always play fire me up music at 4am. -
Teresa
I did Hood To Coast last year & doing it again this year. Put every thing you need as far as clothing for each leg into a gallon zip bag & label it, then after you change you can zip up your stank clothes in it. Earplugs & an eye mask, pillow, blanket. Sleep anytime you can. The blanket was good to hide under to change out of clothes on the go. Wipes, Body Glide, ibuprofin, instant ice packs. Study your legs ahead of time & read for any key points. It’s pretty hard to get lost during the day as there are tons of people running, but there are stretches where it gets thinned out. Running at night & seeing no other flashing red lights ahead of you or a headlamp behind you is a creepy feeling. But all in all, definately one of the most fun things I have ever done & I can’t wait to do it again in August!

Im glad to hear your nephew is doing better! Prayers going his way!

Amber (theblonderunner.com)
I did the RedRock relay in Utah- Brian Head to Zion with 12 girls and it was so much fun. I was the captain and we had our two vehicles plus two motorhomes. It was so nice to sleep and shower and use a microwave to heat up the lasagna.
Here is my race report on it: http://amberdesignz.com/blog/2011/09/14/red-rock-relay-zion-91011/
Good luck and have fun! -
I hope Button is ok. Sending my prayers his way.

Someone needs to get Pam her own blog. I can’t keep up with the whole gang if one piece of the puzzle is missing!
-
SkinnyRunner
she actually has a blog now, but its private.

Cute blog!

Oh my gosh, I assume everything is ok with your sweet little nephew because that Bunny is beyond creepy!!! OH MAN! Get it out of there!

(worlds’ slowest comment-maker)
I cannot wait to hear about you doing the SoCal Ragnar! Jealous! I am a mother of 4, SLOW (under an 11 min/mil), and LOVED the Wasatch Back Ragnar. It was awesome for me to do it with my husband too.
Beware of the hangover you will have come sunday or even monday after the race.
(Amber did a good re-cap on her Red Rock Relay-but how has two large motorhomes!?! crazy)
My Advice- (good advice from Teresa & Mandie)
Practice a run with your ‘night time running gear on’-HEADLIGHT, vest, and tail light. You will become 1 with that gear.
Bring your compression gear to wear between runs.
I second the vote for Tums. pain meds too.
Music to blare in the car at 4am-yes!
Go crazy on what you wear. Its easier to find each other on your team if you are in bright, fun colors.
If you have a night run, find GLOW STICKS or something fun & unique to wear. Its fun!
Decorate the vehicle!
Do you have a driver? I loved having a driver, cause I didn’t have anything to worry about before or after my run. The driver worried about driving.
Watch YouTube videos people have done about past ragnar races. It gives you a glimpse of the crazy time you can have.
Take LOTS of pictures!
Cheer on those slow people you pass (aka KILL). Us slow people like a little encouragement.
Beware of men running in VERY little clothing……
You will rock at it-even if you are getting back at it after your cold. -
