While I go and enjoy the little things in life, I hope you enjoy this post which is all about you guys.
**Reader Claire is giving away a FREE entry to the Marine Corps Marathon in October – this baby sold out in less than 3 hours! I’m so jealous and want to run it. Check out the giveaway.
**Kelly is raffling off a pair of my favorite shoes, Mizuno Wave Rider 15s! Proceeds go to the charity Open Heart Magic. Check out the raffle.
**Reader Raquel emailed me about the ColorMeRad 5k series. Check it out, they’re all over the US and look fun.
Reader Runners
Gabrielle and Jessica, best friends who ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC half marathon:
Amanda ran the DC Marathon too and had a HUGE PR:
I could not believe how tough the heat was to handle! I had to strip down to my sports bra at mile 18…but it was really the grates in the bridge across the Anacostia and the miles in direct sunlight with nothing around that got to me. Somehow, despite the conditions, I still managed to PR by 44 minutes and finished in 4:30:33!!!
Krissy rocking the Shamrock Marathon – check out her race recap!
Melissa who also ran Rock ‘n’ Roll DC:
This was my first marathon and I finished in 4:46:38–my goal was to come in under 5. I attached a picture of me while I was still enjoying myself
As tough as the marathon was at the end I’m already thinking about when I’m going to run my next one! I’d love to finish closer to 4:30 next time.
Kathryn just ran her first half marathon – the Shamrock Anthem Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA:
With the help of some Swedish Fish, shamrock-green arm warmers, and maybe a little bit of training, I managed to make my goal of sub-2:00 with a finish time of 1:59:05!

(send me a pic of yours and I’ll post it)
Theresa:
This is a pic from the Disney family 5k I did in February followed by the princess half the following day. Loved running in my SR shirt.
Meghan:
This is my sister and I at last weekend’s Dallas Rock and Roll Half Marathon. My sister, Amber, is on the left (showing the back of your shirt). She lives in the gorgeous mountain town of Crested Butte, Colorado. She completed her training with snow and ice at 8900 feet above sea level. This was her first half marathon and my second. She rocked it! We’re planning on running the Denver Rock and Roll in September.
Crappy Reader Race Pics
Lisa at last month’s Mercedes Half Marathon in Birmingham, AL:
The guy in the photo with me was really friendly the whole race, and we sprinted to the finish together. Somehow his friendliness came across as cat scratch fever in the photo, and I completely missed my mouth at the last water stop. This is a keeper!
I look like a dying t-rex. What is happening there?! I wasn’t even racing. I was pacing my husband to his PR, so I assume I was just talking, but man…it cracks me up!
And Ashley looking more normal and less T-Rex:
GOOD LUCK!
Good luck to Jennifer who is running her first marathon, the Frisco Marathon on April 29th. Go girl!

Woohoo go Kathryn, that’s my Richmond, VA girl
Wow, that Marine Corps Marathon entry would be worth its weight in gold. Thanks for sharing!
I keep laughing at the “dying t-rex” comment. Too funny!
Seriously, the picture of cat-man is the best race picture ever.
Agreed.
Cat scratch fever photo cracks me up!
Crappy reader race pics are just the best….. you just have to own the moment and laugh at yourself.
Oh and I’m jealous that you get to take piloxing (no piloxing around here). Sounds like a fabulous workout!
The ‘crappy pics’ section in hilarious!! Haha most of my race pictures are hilarious – and terrible! I manage to make the most ridiculous faces without even trying!
holy hell.that race photo of cat scratch fever made me LOL!!!!
i had to wear frocs at my last job. frocs=faux crocs. enough ppl complained and they let us go back to wearing our own shoes.
I should dig out some of my crappy race pics. I have a couple of them where I look ridiculous and am not quite sure what was going on. Thanks for the give away heads up, good to know!
Could you give me a little info on the benefits of a protein drink after a run or direct to to where you blog about it? I’ve been running about 2 years and have ran dozens of 5k, 10k, 15k, 1/2′s, as well as the Hood to Coast Relay and Muddy Buddy runs and run daily 3-6 miles. I normally just rehydrate with water or Gatorade, but have never actually done enough research into what my body really needs – horrible I know. I know you like Click, but I see lots of different protein drinks and wonder what to look for when choosing one. My friend sells Herbalife & wants me to try theirs, but I have no idea what I am looking at. Thanks!
check out this article about the benefits of lowfat chocolate milk but also why you want carbs and protein to help your muscles recover and repair: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/healthy-eating/superfoods/chocolate-milk-after-workout/
Congrats to all the runners in this post! Great job kicking some ass everyone!!! Also love the crappy reader pictures. I have about 20 I could submit of me with my eyes closed, someday I’ll be brave enough to share them with other people.
Ashley’s dying t Rex comment made me spit diet coke. These posts are great!
So exciting to see so many amazing runners!! What inspiration!!
I think that Amanda’s pic was beautiful and at mile 18 none the less. Amazing.
Now the guy behind her, let’s call him Al Roker, he should be in the crappy race pics. Poor guy was feeling the marathon love.
Thanks! That was actually about .1 from the finish line…and it SERIOUSLY looks like Al Roker’s brother is about to vomit on me! HAHA
How often should someone replace compression socks and how do you wash yours? I just got my first pair.
thats a great question. i wash mine after every time i sweat in them (like im running a race in them) but i never dry them in the dryer.
id guess if you’re using them consistently, maybe replace them after a year? anything with elastic/stretch/spandex breaks down eventually, thats why they say to replace sports bras after a year too.
Lisa from yomamaruns is funny – love reading her posts.
I wanted to do the Yeungling Shamrock marathon but instead RnR roped me into Nola for their ridiculously cheap fare. Maybe I should have ignored it and gone to Virginia Beach. Ehh, next time.
Faqntastic post! Love it!
Oh my gosh, that t-rex comment still has me giggling! And a beaten PR of 44 minutes! That’s HUGE!!! All of these women that you’ve shared with us seem like they have great personalities
Thanks for recommending them!
Is Al Roker behind Amanda? Please say yes!
I wish…it totally looks like him, though, right? I think his D tag fell off because we couldn’t even find him in the race results to see if it was a ‘Roker.’
That guys in Lisa’s crappy race pic is the best, so funny.
Great pics! I love that you feature other bloggers.
I have also noticed a reoccuring theme of “t-rex arms” in the runner’s photos.
These pictures are awesome…some of them are the funniest thing ever!
cool seeing all of your readers!
When you post “funny reader race photos” I usually find myself laughing until I cry! I vote for more posts with funny race photos! Thanks for the chuckle and wonderful inspiration.
Funny pics of your readers!!
EEEEEKKKK!!! Thank you (and Raquel!!) for posting about the ColorMeRad Races! I have two in my area (VA) and will def do them!
Love the funny race pics! Makes me laugh. Totally off the subject, but I also have a Yorkie. She’s 2.5 lbs, 3lbs on a fat day (don’t tell her I told you that). Anyway you inspire me to push myself a little harder each day (I just started running in Jan). Thank you.
YORKIE LOVE!!!!!!!! yours is way smaller than my 4 lb fatty.
4lbs! That is big.
Mine is a soda can with legs. I often wonder how you take Marni on 2 mile walks. Mine would make me carry her. She’s lazy and needs a workout though. Maybe a cute outfit would make her feel better.
You’re so sweet to share about the Marine Corps Race, I’d be like shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! gimme gimme!
THOSE photos are hilarious! Thanks for making my day, it’s not even 10am!
Great post – and I totally just entered for those shoes Kelly is giving away
I love reader race pics! Makes me laugh out loud. Cat scratch guy is the best!
Keep the funnies coming!
OMG…the dying T-Rex comment is the best. Thanks for sharing that and the great race pic of her.
