This weekend I’m going to an event in LA (cocktail attire) with this girl and this girl and I’m stoked to see them but don’t know what to wear. And they both told me that under no circumstances am I allowed to show up naked.
So yesterday I had to return a tank top to Nordstrom and did a little dress shopping while I was there in the BP section.
I loved this lace dress; it was really comfortable and not tight. Would this be considered an A-line or a babydoll dress? I don’t know, but it was way too short for me to be comfortable in.
My sister-in-law Marlie has this dress in black and I thought it was so cute on her. Ehh, not loving it quite as much on me. This dress comes in a ton of different prints, is $46 and runs really big, if you’re interested.
In another print.
And then I tried a smaller size on and another print:
Are you sick of the camera in the face, pinkie going all crazy pose yet?
I ended up buying the last dress with a gift card, but I still really want a lace dress. I die for this Scarlett dress by For Love and Lemons that Kendall Jenner is wearing, but it’s $180:
So I’m thinking of trying on this lace dress from Nordy’s:
It’s only $52 and with my gift card, I’d only be spending $2. I might be able to swing that.
Speaking of the tank top I returned, I bought 3 more Hinge jersey tanks; I love these. Hinge is Nordstrom’s brand in the TBD section and while $26 for a tank top certainly isn’t cheap, they’re so comfortable and I like that they’re a little longer.
One of them was 50% off and I didn’t even know it until I looked at the receipt so I might go back and see if any others are. Busy, busy day in SR land.
MORE NEW STUFF
Besides new clothes, I signed up for a new race: the Chesebro Half Marathon on March 24th.
The Great Race of Agoura has 2 half marathons on the same morning to choose from: I ran the Chesebro half (a trail race – tough but beautiful and fun) 2 years ago and the Pacific half (it starts on a movie set!) last year.
Paramount Ranch Western Town – source
There’s a 10K, Deena Kastor 5K, and Kids 1 Miler, and the Great Race was voted Best Half Marathon in the US by Active.com last year. boom.
My good friends Reese and Jim (who runs the 10K or 5K) live super close to the race and run it every year so I’m going to stay with them and hopefully bust it out on those trails. I definitely want to beat my 2 years ago time of 1:41.
And then the next day I’m running the Hot Chocolate 15K down in San Diego in costume.

Go for the $42 lace one from Nordy’s! It’s my favorite by far
I’d probably get arrested if I wore a dress as short as that first one.
The $52 nordstrom dress looks lovely, you should get it.
And wow, you’re going to just devour that half PR time, even if it is a tough trail…
I love the last one ($52)
Get the nordy’s lace dress w/sleeves! I’ve been dying to get one myself. Therefore, I’ve chosen to live vicariously through you for the time being.
I am new to your blog and new to running… all I can say is you are an inspiration! I love the last dress, the white lace one.
thanks for reading!
I agree, I really like the lace dress a lot.. but wow.. your not kidding.. that thing is short! I think all of them look great- but I would probably go with the darker dress..
criminetly, I would look like the bride of fattenstein in that KJ dress.
I love the last dress…love the lace sleeves.
I have never done a trail run but my Spin instructor did a 50K trail run for his 50th birthday! He’s crazy. His legs were cut up and bruised when he was done.
Have fun and good luck beating your time!
I love trail racing!! I like to do my long runs on the trails. I run a trail half every year and did a trail 50K last year. Now that I am 26 weeks into my pregnancy, I have to stay off the trail but you better believe I will be back on them as soon as I get the OK!
and I missed the most important question, I really like the Nordstrom lace dress.
LOVE the first lace dress…thinking about getting it with my nordstrom gift card! not sure about what size though… it IS super short.
trail races=the best. and the more mud the better!!
I love those laces dresses! Too cute.
I’m running the Pacific Half so I’ll keep an eye out for you!
After primarily running roads and road races for 2 years I did my first trail half in late 2010 and really haven’t looked back. For me, trail races are much more challenging and mentally engaging than road. I don’t run as fast (even my fast road pace isn’t really close to fast), but I seem to enjoy the run/race more. Best of luck on your half!
Is that first one actually a dress?? SO short!!
ALL the dresses are amazing, they’re actually ALL super cute, I think any of them would be lovely! I like the white babydoll style best I think – you have killer legs and it totally shows them off! I don’t think it’s too short at all – just don’t do any handstands
Congrats on signing up for a new half marathon! I like having a goal race to be working towards.. it makes every training run more purposeful. Half is my favourite distance to run – it’s not painfully intense or too long. I LOVE trail races- I find them more interesting and challenging than running on roads. I find that I get into a good groove on trails, though they’re tougher and my times are never as good.
I just found your blog through Hungry Runner Girl – I love it! I’ve added it to my bloglist on my own blog and I’m now a follower! Looking forward to reading more
All of the dresses are cute, but I love that white lace one … and if you can get it for $2, it’s a win-win!
LOVE that lace dress. I am so going to get it! Perks of being 5 feet tall-I can wear ridiculously short dresses!
I loved the dress you bought!!! The first was my fav but it did look a little, careful when you sit down Brittany.
I love lace too! I just got a super deal on a black and sparkley black lacey dress from macy’s 200.00 and got it for 35. LOVE sale racks. i love the last lace dress!
I liked the first dress (lace) and the 3rd dress. You should really go back and get that one in the size that fits right. It looks great on you!
Both dresses are beautiful!
I love trail running!! The miles seem to go by so much faster, even if overall times are generally much slower than road races. There’s always something to dodge, jump over, or duck under, mud, creek crossings….and the aid stations are like a buffet. Hubs and I are training for our first 50k and just discovered the amazingness of the “salty potato”…boiled potato chunk that you dip into a bowl of salt…sounds gross but after 18 miles it is soo good!!
I can go a lot further on the trail w/o being sore than on the road, it’s much easier on your joints. With your endurance, you’d be a beast on the trail!!
I loved the lace dress on you but yes, the first one would probably keep you in a tizzy making sure it wasn’t riding up and showing the booty. ha!
Go for the other lace dress…at Nordy’s?
Have fun!
I love the one you bought! That first one is a top, no way is that a dress.
I love the lace dresses! The first is scary short, though!
I love that first dress but agree its just a tad too short! I liked that other dress in white though even though you didn’t! I think you must go back and try on the lace one!
If only that first lace dress was a little longer! It’s so freakin cute. Trail running is tough, but so much more interesting and fun imo.
lace all the way, lady!!! not the first one though – really like the jenner one you posted!!! money grows on the tree in your yard, you can do it
i just bought a lace dress for my upcoming baby shower – i’m not going to let this baby bump impede on fashion!
I like the Kendall Jenner one the best! But I also like the first color of the one like your friend’s.
you look super cute in all the dresses! i have been doing trail races lately because my hubs is addicted to them. i did the malibu creek trail race this weekend and it was soooooo hard. anyway, we are both signed up for the chesebro half as well. can’t wait!
Have you ever heard of renttherunway.com? Not the best investment but you get to dress like Kendall Jenner (or her richer sisters) for a whole lot cheaper.
Wow you look great in all of the dress! I love the white lace one too. I haven’t trail raced but it is definitely on my list of running adventures.
*dresses!
Great dresses!
I LOVE trails so much more fun than roads. I used to run El Moro all the time and ran the Catalina Marathon – you MUST put that one on your list.
Okay SR you are next since HRG announced her pregnancy today!
BTW all of those dresses look great on you!
im having sickness right now… barfing in my mouth.
im so excited for janae though.
I have the H&M version of the Kendall Jenner dress in black from my friend and ADORE it. I died a little when I saw the white was sold out.
I’d def go with that one. Lace/crochet are tres chic right now, but won’t be for much longer.
Last dress – it is awesome and a great price!
There is a really great trail race here in Des Moines (yep – that’s right – Iowa ) which has been voted best trail race in Runners World. It is the Living History Farms race and held in November. 7 miles and great costumes! No speed records as the traffic gets a bit backed up at certain places but SO fun!!! I couldn’t do it last year cuz was rehabbing a broken ankle but I totally will do it every year I can. It closes fast so if any interest register early – you can stay with me!
I love all the dresses, especially the lace one!
I ran a Halloween race that was through the woods with obstacles. It was pretty fun!
Just ran my first trail race (10K) this past Saturday! It was fun and very messy with MUD. Like I was running with 2 blocks of concrete which used to be my tennis shoes covered in thick, oozy mud. I was just glad I didn’t slip and fall in it!
That first lace dress is sooo cute. Maybe you should just wear running tights under it and start a new trend? Otherwise I think the one you went with is great, but that other lace one you are eyeing is super cuteness too. Maybe just get both of them? I’m sure you will have another “occasion” to wear the other one too. And if not, lounging around the house in a cute dress isn’t bad either!
I love the one from Nordy’s.
Lace all the way. It’s beautiful.
I like the off white $46 dress that Marlie has. Great for your skin and hair color, plus it would look great with a long gold or colored necklace. It would be a fun summer day dress too when you mix up the accessories and sandals.
Did you see Gwyneth Paltrow at the Oscars in her off-white dress? Very pretty!
What is your costume going to be for the 15K?
I think everything looks good on you… for real. I have the BP dress in a blue/white striped design in XS and it’s pretty cute. The flowy style with the empire waist.
I could not pull off the first dress, though you are killing it….
that’s a top secret but my mom made it herself!
Hands down the last white lace dress. Return the other dress asap and go get the other one. It will only be $2 so that means you can be a lot more tanks, too!
I meant BUY more tanks!
Love the lace dress from Nordstrom! I want a lace dress too *sigh* and is it weird that I wish my legs looked like a 16 year old’s? Trail runs are awesome! I’ve ran a few at night and during the day! In fact, this weekend I ran a 10k trail run and won 2nd place in my division!
This post about the trail race was actually kinda perfect, because I had a question for you relating to this. I’m going to be running my first half marathon this april and in 3weeks a local park is holding a 10mile trail race. This race is 2 weeks away from the 1/2 marathon, so I think it would be the perfect training race, but I’m not sure if I should take the chance with the higher risk of injury since the last trail race I did I ended up with a grade II sprained ankle. What are your thoughts?!
if its 2 weeks out and your first half, id recommend skipping it. but if your gungho about it, take it really slow and careful (don’t try to be anywear near goal pace)
My favs are the 1) Lace 2) Last one. Congrats on your Fitness Mag nomination!
Thank ya ma’am!
Hey sista from another (race) motha. I got the different printed dress in the orange color….then I got home and realized I looked like sh*t in it! It’s so baggy in some areas!
I love Hinge!! I have a really nice cape by them! So cute!! Anyway, I also like the dress you chose. And Kendall’s is gorgeous! I’m a huge fan of lace!
Trails rock! Tahoe has some of the best! Come visit!
Go back and get either one of the white lace dress (first one or the last one with long sleeves)! Or both! They look good!
The lace ones for me …
I have to think too much when running on trails, my mind and feet need to know that I have a flat surface under my feet …

I have this.
I love it!
and its FREEEE (with your gift card)
I say get the white lace.
That one-shouldered lace dress rocks. It is a little short, but hey, you’re a runner! Legs are your thing, lol! I like using occasions as an excuse to sew (clothes design=my other hobby) but sometimes I just hit up the Salvation Army. I’ve found some cuties there!
I’m running Chesebro too! It’ll be rough, but all my running has been on some serious hillage since I moved to CA a few weeks ago, so hopefully that has helped me. I like the long sleeve lace dress.
I like the one on the Jenner girl the best, but for $2 you can’t beat the last one from Nordstrom!
I’ve done 2 trail races so far – an 8k and an 8 miler. The 8 miler was crazy – the trails were extremely narrow and at times we had to walk because we had to go through single-file and people were walking or running really slow and you couldn’t pass. There were also parts that were really hazardous because it had rained hard the two days before and the rocks were slippery and mud trails were too. Lots of people wiped out. However, the miles did go faster and it was definitely more interesting than a road race. I had a much better experience with the 8k I did – it was dry (helps a lot!) and the trails were a lot wider and less hazardous.
I would just say be careful if you have any weak joints (knee, ankle, etc). I have a weak left ankle and I found myself leading with my left leg when jumping down off of ledges and things. As a result, my left ankle was absolutely killing me for a week.
Can’t wait to read your review!
