Enough about me, what about you

WORKOUT -

Biked  – 4.5 miles

TM run –

7.3 miles/60 mins

1. incline

Elliptical – 30 mins

One of my favorite ways to exercise on vacation is to do something active with other people.  This morning I biked 4.5 easy miles with my mom and while it might not have constituted a workout (I didn’t even break a sweat), it was a fun ‘add-on’ to the rest of my workout.

I went to the community gym to do some cardio.  At first I didn’t plan on running.  Then I decided on a 2 mile warm-up.  That turned into 20 minutes which turned into 30.  I was about to hop off the machine when an older gentleman came over and told me what a great pace I was running and oh so fast.  So of course I couldn’t quit then; I mean, an 80 year old man was watching!

So I did an hour on the treadmill and then a 30 minute magazine read on the elliptical.

DSCN8580

I didn’t start working out until noon today because my mom and I went garage sale-ing at 8am.  Garage sales don’t start on Friday, oh no.  If you want the goods, you gotta go early Thursday morning.  And old people love their garage sales!

DSCN8576

I bought a Chick Lit book for .50, not a super deal but since it is two books in one, I splurged.

DSCN8578

I also found something else I wanted but my mom wouldn’t buy it for me:

DSCN8577

A Vespa for only $3500.  It goes 70 mph!

My mom bought a couple things for the backyard that we’re trying to spruce up and then we headed home.

SHOPPING… BUT NOT AT GARAGE SALES

On a completely different note, my mom just bought these Zella leggings from Nordstrom and absolutely loves them.  She even bought them in 2 colors (something she never does), and they also come in plus sizes.

I’ve heard that the designer behind Zella came from Lululemon… anyone know if that’s true?

DSCN8574

My mom has the skinniest legs.  I want a leg transplant.

We’ve also been taking self-portraits and lots of pictures… the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree….

I wore the shirt my mom surprised me with and posed on a rock.  just another day…

YOU GUYS

Reader Runners

Meredith:

“I just ran my first half marathon this weekend! I live in Austin, TX (home of Lance Armstrong) so I ran the Austin Livestrong Marathon/Half Marathon.  It was quite a challenging course — famous for miles 2-5 of straight uphill climb and a torturous, steep hill at 11.8 that had me regretting the day I got the silly idea to start running.

But I’m happy to report I crossed the finish line 4 minutes under my goal time of 2:30 (yep, I’m slow) with literal tears in my eyes.  3 years ago I weighed 250 lbs and never would have dreamed I could run 13.1 miles!  It was very emotional for me. My thighs are killing me from the hills today, but I can’t wait to sign up for another.”

MARRIED

Reader Meg just got married and ran 7 miles the morning of her wedding (I did the same thing!) capping off an 80 mile week, a distance PR for her.  Congratulations Meg!  and on the whole getting married thing too.  :)

SMELLS SO GOOD I WANT TO EAT IT

Go check out reader Renee’s site; she is a Scentsy seller.  Have you guys heard of these?  My SIL Marlie just gave me one for my birthday after I dropped my old one and broke it.  nice.  I love the birthday cake flavored wax – smells so good.  (I looked online and I can’t find the one I have and it’s at home and I’m not)

Renee is working hard to put her husband through medical school and pay the bills so if you’re looking for a Scentsy and would love to help someone out, check out Renee’s Scentsy site here.  And I think everything is 10% off too.  sweet!

Crappy Reader Race Pics

Kailey:

“I ran the Lost Dutchman 10k last weekend and was determined to PR. This was at mile 5 and judging by the picture, I thought I was going to puke. However, the girl in the pink was pissing me off (because she was faster? I don’t know) so I was determined to beat her. I passed her, PR’d and managed to not barf on the little girl giving me my medal. Win!”

Most importantly, you looked cute in a skirt – winning.

RAFFLE

Reader Maggie is running her first marathon in Chicago this fall and running on behalf of the American Cancer Society.  She’s raising money by hosting a “favorite things” running raffle.

Your mom looks so cute! I ADORE Zella, and I always scoop up their capri leggings and hoodie tops every July at Nordstrom’s Annual Sale.

Bloomberg claims it’s true that one of the Lululemon designers worked for Nordstrom’s to create the popular Zella pieces . . . http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/rivals-rush-to-copy-lululemons-yoga-pose-09082011.html.

I think the Vespa gets 70 miles per gallon (mpg):) But it would be pretty cool if it went 70 mph!

SkinnyRunner February 23, 2012 at 3:34 pm

There are some Vespa models that go up to 80mph though!

I’d be too chicken to ever max out that kind of speed on a Vespa, haha.

Maggie February 23, 2012 at 3:25 pm

Thanks for the link!! I too would like a Vespa, but in Chicago I could probably only use it for half of the year.

So cute that you are hanging out with your Mom this week! I wish I could do that more with my Mom. She lives in MI and I’m in NH. We only get to see each other a few times a year. Boo! Enjoy yourself!

Is your mom wearing Toms in the legging picture? If so, which ones? I like black but hate the white bottoms and hers appear to be black with black.

Reply

SkinnyRunner February 23, 2012 at 6:52 pm

hers are actually BOBS from skechers! they do the same exact same thing as toms and were a total ripoff of course, but look exactly the same.

My husband rides a Harley and has threatened me with taking away credit cards if I got a Vespa. As if me riding one would somehow diminish his masculinity! Ha!

And Meg’s wedding dress is gorgeous! I would do it all over again just for the dress!

Of course you couldn’t stop at 30 minutes! Now if I had an 80-year old olgling at me, I would have done the same thing! ;p BTW, how about a pic of the other legging yr mom got? What colour is it?

Molly February 23, 2012 at 11:12 pm

Yes on the Zella’s! I really do live in my long ones and the capris are great too. They would be perfect for your barre classes and running. They have all the details lulu does. Love.

Amanda February 24, 2012 at 4:12 am

I love Zella! Those leggings are the best, I have 2 pairs too! My first thought when I saw the Zella brand was that it is similar to Lululemon.

I feel ya on trying to impress the OLD man at the gym. Been there done that!
I have that book you scored, the garage sale affect of yours will make reading it feel so much better. It’s good…I think

I love riding around on vespas. When we go on beach vacations we always rent them. So much fun.

I love tag sales, but I can never get up early enough to go. We have an awesome cast iron swan lamp we got for $2. It’s my prized possession.

I LOVE Zella stuff. I have six pairs of the leggings. They come in different lengths too which is awesome. I also saw the summer stuff at Nordstrom last weekend and it’s super cute.

Your mom is adorable! And at least it was a compliment from the 80 yr old man rather than him showing you up ;) And I also love that you put your readers’ stories on here, its great to see who else is reading!

kaitlyn February 24, 2012 at 6:59 am

I had the same thing happen yesterday on the treadmill. Someone I knew (who happen to also be attractive) came in to the gym and said hi. So, of course I had to keep running to impress.
I love how adorable your Mom is and the spotlighting of your readers-keep them coming!

Suzanne February 24, 2012 at 7:56 am

Congrats to Meg!
I ran on the treadmill the morning of my wedding…just 3 or 4 miles. But the machine tried to kill me! It kept speeding up and speeding up and wouldn’t stop! Scary, but a funny story after the fact.
I tried to find a post with this info, but couldn’t…How do I send in a crappy reader race pic? I have one or two I’d like to send in. :)

Just chiming in on the Vespa comments…. I had a Vespa (yes HAD, sold it a year or so ago, sniff sniff). Mine looked just like the one in the picture here. It would go 70mph (not that I would know, wink wink) and it would get some insane amount of mpg too. But there are different versions of Vespas and not all go that fast.
Just a little education for SR readers :)
