Marathon Eating

WORKOUT – Ran outside

10.0 miles/1:26

no music, flat, easy

recovery miles

If you want to keep your recovery miles from being too fast, try running them without any music.  Of course, that only works when you regularly run with music, but I always run my “easier” miles tunes-free.  This also works well if you want an excuse for your slow run… Oh, I didn’t have any music, that’s why I was race walking instead of running.

YESTERDAY

Yesterday after the race I walked to a nearby Tully’s and ordered a coffee.  Ok, a grande nonfat misto with a shot of sugar-free Madagascar vanilla if I want be pretentious about it.  Seriously, the flavor was “Madagascar vanilla” – it tasted like “regular vanilla”.

I normally don’t crave coffee after a race, but I was sorta cold and it sounded really good.

Speaking of the race, I’ll recap it soon; I’m just waiting for a couple pictures.  But Lisa, who won a free race entry, PR’ed with a 3:46!

Me, Lisa and her niece Mary who came out from Cali to be a cheerleader.  I also met reader Jaime at the start and ran into EMZ at the grocery store!

POST-RACE CHOW CHOW

I said my mom was awesome yesterday, but she really is.  While I was out running the marathon, she bought me a bottle of celebratory champagne.  She thinks bubbly’s so gross, but she knows I love it.

DSCN8528

Asti’s definitely sweeter so if you like a more dry bubbly, you won’t like this.

And she also knows that I have incredible style:

If you’re tweetin’, you’ve already seen this.

Like mother, like daughter…

Last night my too cool for school in her own high socks mom made dinner: pork chips with sautéed mushrooms, egg noodles, broiled asparagus and a side salad.  definitely went for seconds on that business.  and the Asti.

Throughout the day I had another big salad for lunch.  I don’t know why I’m talking about food as if I’m a food blogger.

That Diet Coke, by the way, tasted sooo good.  I don’t drink much DC anymore but when I do, man, it’s like falling in love all over again.

And I had this NuGo bar in the afternoon after church.  These are at Costco for about $18/24 so we bought a box to try.  I always like to have at least one energy bar in my bag or car.  I know a lot of people say that, but it’s the truth: I don’t like to be hungry and not have any choices nearby.

I had never tried these before, but I dug it – has sort of a light, Rice Krispy-like texture similar to a Kashi GoLean bar and has 170 calories, 3 grams fat, 11 grams protein.

Enough boring food talk.  Let’s have a little Cat Lady Blogs:

I’m Kathleen from Carrie Bradshaw Lied.  I started my own blog last year when I realized that life as a twenty-something-post-college-fashionista-wannabe wasn’t as fabulous, glamorous and chic as Carrie Bradshaw made it look like in Sex and the City.

It’s not real, y’all.

My blog is mostly about fashion, food, and of course the occasional (read often) random snip-its about traveling/DIY projects/TV (emphasis on Real Housewives/anything on Bravo)/movies/kitchen appliances/gym playlists/decorating/dieting/family/friends/the boyfriend.

A larger DIY project: my dining room

Like most self-proclaimed-fashionistas, I love all things designer labeled but like most poor twenty-somethings, I’m on a budget.  On my blog you’ll find “designer option meets budget-friendly option” swaps, links to the cutest and the newest accessories you must have and favorites from my own closet and how you can incorporate them into your own.

Like most females, I love meal-time and food, both preparing it and eating it (obviously).  I like to share healthy recipes and kitchen favorites that are quick, easy and tasty.

More than anything, I try to show humor and personality in everything that I post.  I think that’s why we all come back to SkinnyRunner, because she makes us happy and she makes us laugh.  And in my mind, that’s what blogging is all about.

I’m so scared to run without music. I already run so slow, if I ran without music I would probably end up so slow I would be just sitting? What is a misto anyway? I could Google it, but I think I trust you more.

its half drip coffee (so just regular coffee) and half steamed milk. similar to a latte but with more milk, cheaper and regular coffee instead of a shot of espresso.

Your mom’s pork chops look good, can you get me the recipe?

Last time I was at Starbuck’s I ordered a Misto and barrista asked if I REALLY wanted that. Why would I order it if I didn’t want it? He thought it was ridiculous that I wanted 1/2 coffee and 1/2 milk. Don’t question my order when I’m trying to save $$!

MISTO!! MISTO!! MISTO!!!

It’s my favorite all-time (never-order-anything-else-cause-I’m-boring) drink. I wish they’d just call it a cafe’ au lait, because “misto” is Starbucks speak and if you order it anywhere else, they look at you like you have ten heads!

Food blog diversion was grand, but I’m happy SR likes Mistos…cheers!! :)

I wonder if I could ever convince my mom to come with me to a race. She asked me the other day what the 26.2 on my car meant…

This is totally random but … I had a dream about you last night. I’ve been following your blog for a few months and am currently training for my first marathon, so your rockstar running often inspires me!

Anyway, in my dream we were running a race together. We came to a steep decline and you started pulling ahead. Then you tripped (please don’t read into this – I like you, I promise!) and when I caught up to you to see if you were ok, the only words you could say were “cinnamon bears”. :) So, like the good friend that I am, I ran back towards the starting line to find you some sugar. Unfortunately I woke up before I delivered the bears to you, but let’s pretend all ended well.

Silly dream, but had to share!

Can’t wait to read about your race! Happy Monday!

Asti and I are friends, but let’s talk about that plaque! CONGRATS! That’s so AWESOME! You keep getting better. Sounds like AZ was a blast–especially when you get to enjoy time with your mom!

I know what you mean about diet coke. I swear I’m going to give it up. Then, I drink my “last” one and bamn! back on the DC train….

Can I borrow your mom for a week? Just one week. Pretty please. That noodle dish looks like my usual dinner, minus the porky .

I realize it’s your thing to “mock” stuff and that you (I hope) don’t normally mean harm, but race walkers can actually be really speedy! They can walk a 5km faster than you can run one . . . . http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records/view.asp?division=american&location=road&age=open&sport=RW
