Yesterday my mom and I drove over to the Lloyd Center mall to do a little wandering around before catching our flight out of Portland to Phoenix.
We looked around Macy’s; they were having tons of sales and I got this flowy leopard print top for over 60% off.
As we were walking around we saw a place that did eyebrow threading so my mom had her brows done. When we lived in northern Washington near the Canadian border, we’d drive up to Canada just to get our eyebrows threaded there, and it was only $5… of course, that was 10 years ago.
It’s amazing to watch the Indian women do it; they hold part of the thread in their mouths and it’s twisted somehow and the tension cuts the hairs off. Or at least that’s how I think it works, but it’s cool to see. And the lady did a great job on my mom’s brows.
I passed because my single tract mind was all about Yo Yumba frozen yogurt.
Ehhh, just average. In my FroYo Guide to the Universe that will be self-published in 2034, this place, found on page 8, gets only a 6 out of 10 sparkly shoes. I couldn’t find a website for them which is a point docker in the rating system.
The peanut butter flavor was ok, the cookies and cream was good, and the red velvet cake was decent. Nothing crazy but still good.
We went back to the hotel, packed up our purchases and were getting ready to head to the airport when my mom gave me a little present:
I had seen this C&C California plaid top at Nordstrom and really liked it but decided it was too expensive. When I wasn’t looking, my mom bought it for me and surprised me for no reason at all. Hot dang, my mom is fabtastic; love you, Ma!
We went to the airport, had lunch at a Mexican joint where I had the standard pre-race skinny margarita and then boarded our plane to Phoenix.
And that’s the story of how we traveled from one state to another. Incredible, I know, that interstate travel… almost as amazing as time travel.

Love both your new tops! Don’t forget to post a picture when you wear them so that we can see the whole outfit!!!
If you travel from one time zone to another, that’s like time travel right?
Threading is still only $5 up here! Come on back for a visit!!
Aww! I love that your Mom surprised you with the shirt. My mom does that, too. So cute!
I haven’t been anywhere in a LONG time. I’m overdue for a vacation big time! I did visit another state yesterday. Maine is 5 minutes from my house in New Hampshire.
Me, too! She used to leave little gifts on our beds when we were little; we’d come in from school and there would be a little something placed there waiting for us at least once a week. Now, she drops them by my house. It never gets old! My hubby swears it’s the reason we still live in the town we graduated from.
The leopard print top is mad cute. Wear it with black jeans?
I just came back from a trip to NJ, where coincidentally I was visiting with my mom! She was getting her second cataract done so not as much fun with her as you had with your mom. But she cooked an entire turkey dinner the night before her surgery – she is just so awesome when I come to visit.
I still dont really get what brow threading is. Is it like an alternative to waxing?
yeah, its suppose to be better for your skin too, not sure why though.
I get my entire face threaded. Beauty is pain.
looked up your time from the marathon earlier today, I am impressed!!!!!!
(yes, and I’m that much of a stalker too)
I’ve done that too. hehe
Hope your marathon went well…can’t wait for your post about it…
Just came back from a week in Scranton, PA (the office, anyone?) for a work trip…
Last weekend I was in NV for an off-road race and I had to do 18 miles. So I ran 8 laps around the outlet center and a casino. lol
Another stalker here, way to go on your first place finish….you are an inspiration….tempted to show up on your doorstep and follow you around so I can become as speedy as you.
Way to go on the race!
Your mom sounds so much like mine. My mom always is surprising me with Items of clothing or other non- essentials that I had my eye on. Moms are the best.
Evidently you did really well today–congratulations! The last state I visited was PA to see my sis; before that, Hawaii to visit my parents and Phoenix to see a BFF on the way home. I love having family everywhere and that I’m blessed to have some free time to see them!
Wow congrats! Just saw your TwitPic…You Rock! How impressive..and it just keeps gettin’ better!
I am dying to know your race result now!
Last state I went to was Rhode Island-sounds crazy to some, but it is not when you grew up there. Now I live in Wyoming-just as random of a state.
Last place I traveled to was Cambridge MA and Boston for a Business trip, representing the startup I worked for at the MIT career fair. And congrats!
Arizona, actually!
Cute top! Maybe I’ll go buy that for myself for Valentines….belated Valentines…
Cute tops!
I was in Japan in December, does that count? Otherwise, I live in El Paso so I’m basically in Texas, New Mexico and Mexico all at the same time.
Threading is awesome! I had it done in Surrey BC, not far from your parent’s place in WA and paid $3 for it last summer. It hurts, but it’s similar to waxing. The benefit of threading is that it doesn’t tear the sensitive skin like waxing. I also think it lasts a little longer than waxing.
On another note, hope you had a great race today!
Oh. I would DEFINITELY dock points for no website. I love the pink shirt!!
I’ve been having a blast finding races just a little off the beaten path. Did a half last month in Warner Robins, GA, boring course, but everything else was great! I won a door prize and wasn’t there when they called my name, so they sent it to me! When does that happen?! Also, in December did Ole Man River half in New Orleans. It was small, but this race had some seriously fast runners! The course was at a beautiful park (most people wouldn’t see this when visiting NOLA), it was awesome…flat and fast! AND, last summer in Vail, CO, Diva Half Marathon…course was hard! Nothing but hills and 8,500 feet above sea level, but oh man it was gorgeous and we got some serious bling!!
I want to meet your cute little mom
I think there is a brow threading place in the mall in the Ham now. Does it hurt worse/same as waxing?? I need to get mine done.
I love both of those shirts! So sweet of your mom to get that shirt for you, feel free to share her.
so sweet of your mom to buy you that top— don’t you love it when moms do things like that??
Hong Kong at the beginning of the month for th HK Marathon. Love the place!
Cute tops! Tell your mom she can go shoppping for me anytime!
I’ve never had my brows threaded, I’ve never seen a place around me that does.
I was in Florida a couple weeks ago to get a little winter tan.
I love shopping with my mom, she always ends up taking pity on me for being poor and buying something awesome.
Portland OR via long beach airport, sounds exotic right?
Having just driven from NJ to CA with our dog, I saw a whole bunch of random places over the pats week. We had the pleasure of driving through PA, OH, IL, IN, IA, NE, CO, UT, AZ, NV and finally CA. There’s a whole lot of random in there.
Can you publish that FroYo Guide to the Universe before 2034? I now need help deciphering all the FroYo joints north of LA. Or as awful as it will be, I can just try them all for myself
Your mom is so sweet! That shirt she gave you is too cute!
So excited to hear Lloyd Center has threading! My aunts have been raving about it for a couple years, but we never found any place in Oregon that does it. Good to know.
Last weekend, I was in Madison, WI for a job interview! The next time I travel will be at the end of March to go to San Diego and I hopefully get to meet your fabulous self!
