WORKOUT – Xtend barre

class ~ 55 mins

Ran – 8.0 miles/1:10

Walked – 2.5 miles

I took yesterday as a rest day because my left knee hurt.  I think I hit it on something because it was really tender to the touch, but I played it safe and skipped running altogether.  Instead I walked 5.65 miles: 2 with the dog and 3.65 miles with Katie.

Life Advice: There is not a workout or run that is worth risking an injury so if something feels off or just not right, take a rest day or do cross training.  Don’t risk it!

More Life Advice: Don’t go craycray with the plastic face.  Here’s looking at you, Mickey…

This morning I took a 6am Xtend barre class that Bri got me hooked on.  Today’s class was the hardest for me of the three classes I’ve taken; the barre moves killed me.  A couple times I had to stop for a second, rest, and then keep going.

(I love this Stella McCartney tank from Refuel with Chocolate Milk; it has a little lacy detail on the neckline that I think is supercute)

After the class I ran 8 slow, jello legs miles around Lake Mission Viejo.  I’ve never ran here and it is so pretty.  If you’re bored in your routine, try running somewhere new.  or taking a new class.

After my run, I texted with Monica and decided to meet up for an impromptu walk.  We did 2.5 miles while solving most of the world’s problems.  like what to do with Madonna’s daughter’s hairdo.

We decided on a half side-head toupe.  it could work.

So this is what my workout week looked/will look like:

Sunday: Marathon with Pam 3:27:52 or something close

Monday: Ran 10.25 miles in San Diego

Tuesday: Supremely lazy, did nothing. all. day.

Wednesday: 10.15 miles at 7:23 pace

Thursday: OFF

Friday: Xtend barre class

8.0 easy miles

Saturday: 50k! hopefully not ending in death

But now that I look at that, should I start the week on Monday?  Which day do you start the week on?  so confusing.  need to phone a friend on this deep one.

Also, do you write down your workouts or keep track of them?  How?  Pen and paper or something else?

Good luck tomorrow! I’ve got a 50k too. Except mine’s likely to much colder and uglier than yours over in the northeast.

I start my weeks on Mondays. I started doing it because races are usually Sundays and training weeks end with races. Plus, it’s so European haha.

Heather@Just a Colorado Gal February 10, 2012 at 10:28 am

I always start my workout weeks on Monday just because my “long” workouts are always on the weekend and I like to think I’m finishing up strong rather than starting our strong and fizzling at the end ;) I’ve tried lots of different places to record, but I’m liking Daily Mile. Definitely more geared towards runners, but at least all my workouts are in one consolidated place! Good luck manana!

Good luck with your race tomorrow! I start my week with Mondays for my training plan… it always feels like a fresh start to the week.

Like Heather, I’m also using Daily Mile, come be my friend :)

I usually start the workout week on Monday – probably because I usually don’t do anything on Sunday. otherwise, it starts on Sunday;-) I still can’t believe how much you are able to run after a marathon. my legs would hate me and probably run away. I must say, it’s inspiring. more power to you! we don’t have barre classes around here, it sounds like an amazing workout. The east coast is usually the last to catch up on anything new and trendy!

The Mickey Rourke thing makes me really sad for him. He must have some kind of mental illness to ruin himself like that.

I start the week on Monday. Since that’s when my school week starts, and since I run my long runs on the weekends, that just makes the most sense to me. I also use Daily Mile. Love it!

You are going to rock your 50k. Good call on taking a rest day though. Sarah OUAL and I went on a walk at that lake and I am obsessed, it is so gorgeous! LOVE the tank and I really want to try that class out someday!

I write all my workouts in my agenda, then fill in time/mileage when I cross them off the next day (I actually highlight them when complete. I’m a freak like that. ) Good luck tomorrow!

I usually start my week with Monday because 1) most races are on Sunday and 2) I hate the idea of only having 1 day left after Friday. Makes the weekends seem shorter for some reason. I’m so obsessive about keeping track of my workouts. I actually use DailyMile like most people. I love that it shows you exactly how many miles you’ve run each day, each week, each month, and each year!

My workout weeks are Sunday- Saturday… I like to start them on the weekend because I always have a workout planned, so I’m starting off my week on the right foot!

BTW, my new SR tank is my absolute favorite running shirt ever. EVER. Like, I want to wash it every night so I have it everyday. Or maybe I should just get 10 more? :)

I start my week on Monday. I log all my runs/workouts in a “paper” training log from Runner’s World. I like to keep track of weekly miles and total for the year. Oh, I also keep track of the mileage on my running shoes.
Best of luck on the 50k!!

Your run looks absolutely gorgeous – far better than the bleak winter day here in Indiana. Ugh. I should have moved to LA.

I start my week on Monday. Hal Higdon made me do it. Or some training plan, and it’s stuck ever since. I think it probably works because I tend to do my long runs on Sunday, leaving Saturday open to make up any miles I miss during the week.

Have fun tomorrow!

I have 2 fitness tickers on my blog that 1) keeps track of my gym hours (Zumba and bootcamp classes) and 2) my running miles. I love keeping track and seeing how much I’ve done throughout the year.

I used to start mine on Sunday, but lets be honest, Sunday is not a new beginning day. So I start my week on Monday. If I don’t have the mileage I’d like on Friday I still have two days for some good mileage.

Good luck with your 50K!

I have 3 pure barre classes to try out thanks to LivingSocial…not going to lie, I’m a little scared!

I start my weeks on Monday, that way I can use either Saturday or Sunday for my scheduled long run when I’m in training. And races just work out better in the schedule to. I have DailyMile but all of my tracking happens thru the blog or in Excel, I suck at updating DailyMile!

I am always confused as to when to start the week! I like to start mine on Monday though because it just “feels” like it should be the first day of the week. It is more natural and I am more motivated to get up and get my week of to good start on Monday! I also use Sunday as a cross-train/yoga day so Monday is perfect for running! :)

I always start my week on Mondays… fresh start to a fresh week. Sunday is part of the weekend and part of the previous week in my mind.
I use http://www.getfitbook.com/ to log my workouts, food, water, sleep and most importantly my goals. I find it really helps me stay focused to have my goals written down. I love that I can log everything in one place (I used to use fitday.com for my food and dailymile for my workouts, but it’s nice to have it all together in one place) The books are small enough to fit in your gym bag or purse so you can keep it updated all day. It helps you focus on your goals and has a built in reward system. I’m not affiliated with the company AT ALL, so get nothing for recommending it. It’s what I’ve been using since the New Year and I LOVE it!! :) Each book lasts for 3 months, so you break it down to 3 month goals, monthly goals and weekly goals.
50K? You’re one crazy chica! Good luck!!! :)

I start my workout weeks on Mondays because I always feel like I can “make it up” on the weekend if my week is looking a little lower mileage than I’d like, or if I want to get in another strength session to hit my loftly goal of 2 a week.

I log my workouts on dailymile.com. It’s nice because it adds up all your miles for you. I had no idea how many miles I’d run this year until on January 30 I looked and saw I was at 98 miles. I went and did a quick little 2.5 miler instead of being lazy and skipping my workout, just so I could hit 100 miles in a month.

You are a beast! I start my workout week on Mondays. I like that it corresponds with the work week. I log my workouts on runningahead.com. It’s a free running log. I would change to daily mile, but can’t seem to transfer the last 2 years of running data to daily mile and I don’t want to lose it all.

I moved away from San Diego a few months ago and your pics this week made me miss it soooooo much.

Strength training, yoga stuff goes into a spreadsheet that’s a combo of workouts and meals. Nope, I don’t monitor or count calories. The diet bit is for me to track/see what works (or not) for me.

My week starts on Sunday…probably stemming from the resurrection on the first day of the week (thankfully) being pretty engrained in my mind. Strangely, it also makes me feel like I have a better start to each week because when Monday arrives, I’m already one day into the week. I do write down all of my workout–that’s why I have a blog (though I also have a notebook, in which I write more detail like what I’ve eaten). It helps me know what to expect of myself at races, keeps me accountable, reminds me how far I’ve come, and pushes me to work harder. It’s also a great place to record and then look back at results and courses that I’d otherwise forgotten.

Sarah February 10, 2012 at 11:55 pm

You’re cray cray for doing the 50k! You have super hero running powers, no lie! Good luck girl! Weeks start on Monday…..that’s when “typical” work weeks start or classes start for those that are cool for school and if that’s not enough reason on the 7th day God rest not the 1st day.

Reply

dana @ the Big Fat Skinny February 11, 2012 at 5:31 am

Good luck at that 50k! I can’t wait to read whether you find it substantially more difficult than a 26.2, or whether its comparable.

I keep my workouts on the fridge on a dry erase (I go Sun-Sat). I used to do that for training plans for races, and now being pregnant its definitely easier to be lazy, so by putting my weekly progress front and center I’m accountable to any and everyone that walks into my house, and most importantly to myself since I pass it about 400 times a day. Writing it down makes me much more successful.
