This morning I drove up to the Happiest Place on Earth, no, not Nordstrom’s Half Yearly, Disneyland to pick up a race bib for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon on Sunday. ![]()
Even though I was just here in November with my family, I got lost, had to text the Queen of Disney for some help and finally made it to the expo.
The expo’s in the Disneyland Hotel where my brother, sister and kids stayed in November, but don’t worry, I still got lost again. I am woman, hear me roar… because I have no sense of direction.
The bib pickup was downstairs in what kinda looked a carpeted parking lot, but I met reader Liz and grabbed my bib without any hassle.
The rest of the expo is upstairs in a convention hall: there’s lots of sparkly, lots of pink and lots of Luna bars. I think I scored like 8 or 10 of those suckers.
It wasn’t as big as a Rock ‘n’ Roll expo, but it was fun to take a quick look around before hitting the road. Jeff Galloway was about to speak, but if it ain’t Josh Cox, I’m out.
Saw Superman at the Hollywood Half Marathon booth:
Anyone running this race? Pam and I are and I think it’s close to being sold out so better sign up quick!
You wanna know how to make running fun?
Run with friends.
If you don’t have any friends like me, run in a costume.
I’m making a costume for Sunday and for the amount of money and time I’ve already spent on it, I could have bought a solid gold burka.
Oh well, it’ll be fun. I sure do love me some costumed running…

Never ran in costume. It looks like fun though!
I was impressed by how speedy the packet pickup was. I was senorita cheap-o and when they said I had 30 minutes to get in and out, I managed to do it in 14…score!
I am running the tinker bell half on Sunday in a costume
It will technically be my second race in a costume, but for the first race I was in doing a 5k mud run in a tutu.
tutu + mud = twenty pounds of extra weight so I ditched it at the first mud pit.
Never ran in a costume, but I’ve also just started running less than a year ago! I love the idea, though. I also love all of the funny tshirts that people wear … it keeps me entertained as I run!
I did the “Organ Trail” this year for Halloween (haha, get it?! Get it?!) and we dressed up as zombies….wearing tutus. Yeah, it didn’t make much sense to me either, but it was fun!
I am not running the Thinkerbell, I am doing Surf City and I cannot do back to back like that..need longer to recover…because I am a dinosaur…
Hollywood Half! Yes I am doing that one!
No costume yet, yours are great!!! my boys come to all my races and they LOVE runners in costume!
I’m not doing Tinkerbell, but I am ready for Surf City, and I’m doing Hollywood, too!
I’ve never run in costume, but I really want to. As in, I’ll be signing up for the Holiday Half this year just because I want to put on my green and white striped knee socks and a red t-shirt and run around like a crazy elf.
I love running costumes! I won First Place for an 8k race with my “Cup of Hot Cocoa” costume…. bucket, extra large marshmallows, chocolate shirt, handle, and candy cane. Yeah. Those 5 miles were fun holding up a bucket
Not yet. I am running the DC RnR half on St. Pattys day. Are you dressing up for that? I’m debating between lots of obnoxious green or a leprechaun outfit. Can’t decide.
i am running the dc full. i HAVE to dress up if its on st pattys!
true. plus dc goes nuts for st. pattys day. everyone (runners & non-runners) will be dressed up!
Um, so glad you just mentioned that the expo is at the Dland hotel. I dont know why I thought it was at the convention center. I would have been so lost tomorrow morning. I didnt make a costume- I know. BOOO! But I do have ruffles and glitter and Disney.
I ran a 5km race in a felt Santa costume-it was hot…so hot…and not in a sexy way.
My 5k PR was when I was dressed as Jeannie from I dream of Jeannie. The pink pantaloons fluttered nicely.
I ran Disney’s Wine and Dine in October and I wore my Beer Garden girl costume. My bestie wore hers as well and it was awesome! A total blast and the costume did not bother me at all.
Working on year 4 of the Healdsburg Halloween1/2!
Always fun after getting going, tis no fun standing around at 6 a.m. in teeny clothes in 30 degrees at a winery when they won’t serve the wine until AFTER the run! Geez
Have fun! I can’t wait to see your costume
I have ran a 5K in costume – but never a half. It was so much fun! I will likely do it again for 5K’s.

i was Superman this past Halloween. There weren’t too many costumed runners but i made my hubby and kids dress up too so i wasn’t alone! I figure the cape probably made me faster anyway!
I do pretty good with holiday colors but that’s about as costumed as I get. Never had any other races to really dress up for…
I’ve run two Halloween half marathons in costume – one in a bright pink/blue jazzercise costume {perfect for running, btw} and one in a girl-ified Recyclops {from The Office}.
I’m on the fence about a St Patty’s half this year – I’ve run it before but never in costume. Over I’ve managed to add quite the stash of green running gear to my collection so at the very least I’ll be in full green! There will be no pinching me!
Have fun, good luck and I’m looking forward to this costume!
I’m running Hollywood!!! Trying to get Super Pacer Dave and Hillary to go as well!!!
yes! and everyone should dress up!
I’m running the Tinker Bell Half, too! I have a light up Tinker Bell costume and a tinkerbell wig. I hope the wig stays on. It fits kind of like a hat, so we’ll see. The wings are the part that I’m unsure of. I know they say take a test run in your costume to make sure its all ok, but I’m pretty sure I’d have gotten the cops or the loony bin people called on me if I ran outside at home with a green light up dress, a tinkerbell wig, and green fairy wings, lol. Good luck at the race, and I hope I see you!
I like doing costumes. Sparkly, glitter, skirts… FUN!! I so wish I was doing this half!! I’m home thinking about how great it would be!!! Can’t wait for the update
check out all those costumes…haha! i’m sooo jealous, i actually bought/paid for this race but am injured and not able to go. a little salt to the wound is how much flippittiy bibbitity boppity boop money went down the drain…lol. oh well, have an awesome race SR!!
My brothers girlfriend is running the tinkerbell half too!!! I absolutely love Disney races! Have a blast & can’t wait to see costume!
I haven’t ever run in costume, but would love to. Reading your blog makes me wish I lived in a warmer city so that I could race year round!
I have never run in a costume but it is on my list of things to do!
The Kidless Kronicles
I have never run in a costume. Good luck with your run
I myself am not brave enough to wear a costume- yet. But I LOVE people who do. The last couple of 5K’s I’ve done had some completely whucktastic costumes. I ran behind the baby Jesus and the three wiseman and a huge group of ladies dressed up as snowflakes. The baby Jesus was So.Awesome. My favorite though, was the group of guys that ran in the Resolution Run I did on NYD. They started in back and weaved their way up through all the runners shouting ‘doughnuts!’…. They were all shirtless, had unlit cigars in their mouths and each had a couple boxes of Top Pot Doughnuts (a place with a cult following here in Seattle) they were handing out to anyone who stomach them mid-race. Which was mostly teenage boys.
All this to say–I will be running with my camera from now on so I have photographic evidence of all the awesome. I love that all your costumes make you look even more adorable. I always look super dumb! Can’t wait to see your costume for this….
Our community has two races in December and for both I wore a dark green jacket, flippy red tennis skirt over black tights, topped with knee-high red & white striped socks with the furry cuff at the top, a long red & white striped scarf, and a red sequinned Santa hat. It made it really fun, and and I got tons of compliments!
I ran this in September….. Get in front!! You will die and be so frustrated with all the walkers and groups!!! I was in coral 2 and was so frustrated! I will never run this again.
Love the costume pics! Good luck tomorrow. You’re going to do great! http://www.dashingdiva.net
Have a great time at your race. I love all the costumes. I ran a Halloween race as a cheetah, but dont let the costume fool you, I’m pretty slow!
I just ran the Disney World Half Marathon on 1/7/12. I had a pink and white tutu and a pink tiara on. I love to run in costume. And when it’s Disney it’s almost required.
Would have loved to run this race but it actually sold out a few months ago!!!!
My friend Jenn and I are running in the Disney Princess Half in a month. It will be both of our first half marathons. Our team name is the Garnet and Golden Girls (she’s a redhead, I’m blond-ish). She wants to wear a costume but I’m not sure. I think anything that’s going to distract me is a bad idea. I’m going to try and convince her to make shirts instead.
I love dressing up or at least wearing cute knee socks. I ran the Disneyland half and dressed up as Minnie. But I didn’t have a pair of shoes I could spray paint yellow at the time. Tho I did think about it. http://amberdesignz.com/blog/2011/09/08/disneyland-half-marathon-9411/
But since I won Saucony’s from your site, I can next sept.
For the Las Vegas RnR I wore a pink tutu and blk/pink tights and my friend wore red/white tights. Lots of fun.
I’m running my first full marathon in March and haven’t thought of what to wear yet. There’s not really a theme. So probably just cute knee socks.

For the Moster Dash in Chicago, I dressed as a fairy. The costume was easy to run in, until mile 11. At mile 11, the wings began hitting me in the back of the head (for the next 2.1 miles). I recently wore my daughter’s abominal snowman hat in the Polar Dash. I, unofficially, won best head gear.
I wish I could post pictures.
I LOVE running in costume! Any excuse to dress up is a good one for me. Need to find more races to wear costumes to….
I ran the Warrior Dash in leopard print spandex pants, a St. Patrick’s day 7k with green hair and a 10 mile race dressed as the Tooth Fairy for Halloween. Can’t wait until the next one!
Your costume from Rock N Roll LA was super cute. I dig that candy corn skirt!
