Another PR attempt – IMS Arizona Marathon

by SkinnyRunner on December 22, 2011

WORKOUT – Ran outside 7.1 miles/1:01

Streak – day 8

Today was a study in horrible running: the whole run was miserable.  I didn’t feel like running, it was raining a little, blah.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After participating in the less-than-stellar Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah and Las Vegas, I’ve been trying to be a little more careful in what races I choose and spend my money on.
One of the newest additions to my race calendar is the IMS Arizona Marathon on February 19th in Phoenix.
2011-12-17_0609
Until December 30th, the marathon is only $65!  That’s about the cost of a Rock ‘n’ Roll 1k.  The price goes up after then so register fast if you want in on the cheap.
It has a high rating on Active and MarathonGuide; everyone said that’s it flat, downhill and fast – my favorite marathon words.
EMZ ran it, PR’ed and only had good things to say about it so I’m in.  especially if I can get abs like that…  where would one buy such things?
Also….
A long time ago I bought a bib (and then forgot about it) for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Pasadena Half Marathon on February 19th so if anyone wants to run it, I’d sell it for the cost I bought it at – $86.50 and registration right now is $110.  Email me at sr@skinnyrunner.com if interested.
If you find out wear to get abs like that please make a post about it :) Love Emz
I really would love to run Eugene for a PR, sub 4 is my goal but i’m kinda aiming big and want to try for 3:45-3:50 time frame. Go big or go home right? Problem is I live in Idaho and I already have some other destination races on my calendar not sure if I can convince the hubs that that’s the one I need to run.
I’ll be running Lake Lowell Marathon in early May either way.
Next race is Operation Jack satellite race. Planning on doing at least a half, but it will be easy peasy walk/run.
I I completely agree that Rock-n-Roll events are way too expensive and haven’t been receiving good reviews lately. But, weren’t you sponsored for both of those R-n-Revents?
Reply
SkinnyRunner December 22, 2011 at 9:22 am
my entry fees were paid for both of those events, yes.
Stephanie December 22, 2011 at 8:51 am
Well I might run this race now that you mentioned it!
just call today’s run a “recovery run” from yesterday’s hard effort. :)
sounds like a great marathon to run for a PR!! “YOU GOT THIS!!” :)
Next race for moi is the SoCal half Jan. 7th. xo :)
hey lady- where are you running in houston? meyer park? i meant to ask you that yesterday. if you haven’t been to meyer park yet, you should have your hubby drop you off there. it’s right down the street from you guys. there are a few different 1-1.5 mile laps around the park. have a great day!
Your “crappy run” still outdoes some of my best running!
My next race is the FrostBite 15k at home in Richmond – part of my half marathon training.
I’m running the FrostBike 15k as well (I live in Charlottesville) :-)
Next race is the Galveston Marathon in Feb. It’s small and beachy. Should be fun.
Lena @Fit on the Rocks December 22, 2011 at 9:58 am
That race sounds like a winner. There’s the Colorado Marathon and Half that is downhill and fast, too (May) that I hear is awesome. My next (and very first) race is the Surf City Half in February. Let’s hope all the extra oxygen at sea level turns me into a superhuman…one can hope.
I love the sleeves in that photo. I need to find some fabulous sleeves like those or the zebra ones!
Ahhhh if I would have known about this race I would NOT have committed to RNR Pasadena. I would eat the $50 I paid (I got cheapo reg) and switch but my SIL signed up for RNR too. DARN IT!
Next race is Houston Marathon on January 15… hoping for a PR!
Um yes, I’ll take one set in abs, please :) . The new race sounds great!
I’m registered for the IMS half. I’m also registered for the RnR AZ half in Jan. I’ll see how they stack up against each other.
My next race is Austin’s Livestrong 1/2 Marathon on Feb. 19. I’m hoping to get a PR on that race. I love running in Austin & last year when I ran it the weather was AMAZING. hoping for the same this time around!!
There won’t even be any race near me until march – too much snow in Chicagoland! I would love to do a half marathon in may though, I just don’t know if my body would love it!
My next race will be a 5K on New Years Day.
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed December 22, 2011 at 12:21 pm
Yes I want THOSE abs too! Wowza. My friends and I have all been talking about signing up for a 5K in the early spring as something to motivate us (we refuse to do one earlier in the PA winter cold). Some friends will have to train hard just to do it… I know I can run a 5K now but I’m going to set a time goal to light a fire under my butt!
I’m doing RnR USA Marathon in March. After hearing all of the bad reviews of RnR races recently, I’m REALLY nervous about how well this is going to go. Fingers crossed it won’t totally suck.
Reply
Claire @ Let's Go On A Living Spree December 22, 2011 at 10:13 pm
I ran the debacle that was the RnR in LV and although I PR’d, the race was a mess. But I was still thinking about doing the RnR USA just because it’s only a few hours away from where I live and that’s MUCH cheaper than flying out to Vegas (although that had a lot more distractions, lol)
Why in the world would people spend time running a marathon that wasn’t flat, downhill and fast? Seriously.
Next race is Ogden, UT marathon which happens to be, you guessed it, downhill and fast.
I signed up for the IMS full on Black Friday ($30 discount) and ended up paying only $35! Try and beat that RNR!
I actually don’t have any races on my calendar yet. I’m kind of liking it. Though, I’d like it more if I’d had a good run today. It was hideously bad.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated December 22, 2011 at 3:40 pm
Oh my abs totally look like that … (insert sarcasm smiley here).
;)
I think I may do a half marathon in Nashville in April, but I’m still trying to convince other people that they need to do it with me!
Reply
margot@fasterbunny December 22, 2011 at 4:26 pm
whatever dude, I’m still impressed by your tempo yesterday.
I signed up for Eugene. And I wanna do a 5k…
And possibly an olympic tri later.
I will buy your bib off you in exchange for hugs and candy canes?
If you want fast and flat you really should run RnR New Orleans! My only concern this year is that it is the first week of March – could be quite warm by that time here. I liked mid Feb better.
My next race is mid January, the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge. I’m hoping to PR but if I don’t I won’t cry. To be totally honest I’m “hoping to PR” every time I run anywhere! ;-)
My next run is the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in New Orleans on March 4th. My first!!!! Erica
I told myself I wouldn’t sign up for anything until I could run consistently again, but since that’s not happening like tomorrow or the next day, I think I should just sign up anyways.
My sister & I are thinking about going up to Phoenix for this race (we live in Tucson)….knowing us, we’ll get distracted by the IKEA on the drive in & completely forget about the race :)
I was going to say, I thought you were running Pasadena. They suckered me in with a free t shirt and I won a raffle for a free pair of Brooks at their course announcement . The discount down to $70 means I actually made money to run this one.
I thought about doing this one… though the other one that weekend is Lost Dutchman… but I have the Tough Mudder the following weekend, so, ehhh… I don’t think I have the balls to squeeze in a marathon in between Carlsbad and RNR Nola.
