The feeling of health is priceless… actually it’s $7.99/lb

by SkinnyRunner on December 20, 2011

Last night I grabbed my other redheaded friend besides Lindsey Lohan, Monica and we headed out for a night out on the town and to blow some big time money…. at Whole Foods

We didn’t roll up in a Prius but surprisingly they still took our money.  Good thing I brought reusable grocery sacks just to fit in.

Their hot bar alone should be partially responsible for the financial meltdown – this place isn’t cheap.  But neither is the smell of health, kale and affluence wafting through the aisles.

DSCN7335

Isn’t this a cute picture of SarahOUaL?  She looks like a little girl in it.  Never mind the other two who were getting down to grub and couldn’t be bothered… Mmmmm, this quinoa, beet and tofu salad sure is dreamy!

DSCN7336

I got some overpriced (but tasty) salad bar, some roasted vegetables and really good, rich hummus.  all in the finest china.

And one square of tofu – not a fan.  Fakt: I’d make a terrible hippie.

Heather mugging for her paparazzi; I had to fight off the other cameras just to get a shot.  Good thing I had powered up on cous cous and tabouli.

I took some really precious pictures of Sarah and Monica, but they are just too beautiful for this blog.

Contrary to any joke I make, these are all wonderful girls that I’m grateful to call friends.  and buy $12 boxes of salad mixings with like it’s normal.

OUaL, Heather, and Monica.  Pam also made it a little later but I forgot to snap a shot of her.

My blog is a personal fashion and lifestyle blog ALL ABOUT ME.  I like to this this is the perfect song  to listen to when looking at all my lovely posts.  The blog came about when a good friend of mine suggested it might be something I’d be good at.  I figured why not?

I mean, I paint all week and tend to live in slightly past-it and probably not entirely fresh sportswear Mon through Fri, but come the weekend I like to think I manage to turn it around!

20110901-DSC_0998

So the blog documents my looks, Mr K (my dog), my new fashion finds, places I’ve been, Mr K, a recipe here and there and a whole bunch more photos of me and Mr K for good measure.

20110827-DSC_1180

We live in Glasgow, Scotland so that golden hour that other bloggers talk about when they get the perfect photos really only happens over here in Photoshop.  But we’re down with that.  I’m working a few different jobs to save up so we can all move somewhere sunnier!

20110906-006

I do love to run and work out almost every day – my mornings wouldn’t be the same without Jillian Michaels screaming out of the laptop at me – but I don’t really cover that – I mean, why bother when SR does it so well, right?

aviator

Mr K would like you to send him lots of biscuits, or preferably soup, his all-time favourite although I’m not sure that would travel well.  But come on over to the blog and say Howdy and tell him how cute he is at least!

20110810-DSC_0712

Go on over to Wendi’s blog and send her a nice Christmas gift of sunshine.  Thanks Wendy for the email!

Where (geographically) are you spending Christmas?

We are flying out to Houston today so that’s where we will be.

Ha, ain’t that the truth about whole foods?!

We’re spending Xmas at home, all our family is close by so we don’t have to travel which is kinda nice :)

We are spending Christmas at our brand spanking new house (November 1st) .. I am excited, first christmas off the grid in minus 40.. Yay, darkness, ice roads and led lights ! Not to mention hot buttered rum!

I’m spending Christmas in New Orleans – where I live – which is terribly unseasonable!
FYI if you are a cheese fan you might want to keep Whole Foods in your shopping circuit. Despite their exorbitant prices on other groceries, their bulk spices, cheese, and pistachio nuts are cheaper than anywhere else. I go there just for tiny baggies of spices and blocks of havarti and Parmesan!

Houston just opened a Torchy’s Tacos! You guys should try it. I am going tomorrow! Can’t wait.

I’m a bit jealous you’ll be in Houston for the holidays. It just so happens to be one of my favorite places in the states. I will be kicking it poolside in Conakry, Guinea (a little known country on the west coast of Africa), trying to convince myself that despite the 90 degree weather and palm trees, it really is Christmas.

I’m going to Minnesota tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel the exact same way about WF. Except I really don’t have the eco-friendly shopping bags so I’m an outcast there. But so delicious!

Anytime I’m feeling sad about how much money I’ve spent I simply go to Whole Foods and spend some more. Nothing like spending $4.00 on a tomato.

Marie December 20, 2011 at 7:42 am

Oh yay! We’ll be in Houston, too! We live 15-min from downtown, but both sides of the family live in Houston. I’m so lame that I geeked out a bit seeing how you’d be in the same town. No, I’m not a stalker, unless you count the blog. ;)

I’ll be in Wisconsin… not sure if it is going to be a white Christmas though, which would be a first in a LONG time!

I don’t blog…just stalk. I’m currently living in Houston, training for the marathon in January. So, if you see some psycho yelling at you running around Memorial it’s probably me! Luke’s Locker is sponsoring some group runs this week – Thursday night is 20% off in the store if you need to do some last minute shopping!

That dog is beautiful! Holy cow!

I’ll be in Connecticut for Christmas (isn’t that a movie, Christmas in Connecticut?). My parents and Mike’s parents live 4 miles from us. No need to travel!

I have actually never stepped foot inside of a Whole Foods. There isn’t one within an hour of where I live. Thanks so much for the heads up on the sales!

I wonder how that is, Christmas in Vegas… :)

I like most of the items at the Whole Food salad bar I’ve tried, but I was not a fan of the tofu either.

I will be spending Christmas in Anchorage.

We’ll be spending Christmas here in Austin. My family is in NJ and my bf’s in FL, and after a bout with unemployment we just can’t justify spending $600 each for airfare. At least we’ll be together for the holidays (for the first time in 6 years!) :)

We actually spend Christmas in Vegas every year, which is a bit of a surreal experience. Particularly since I was JUST in Vegas for the Rock n Roll 1/2 (I was NOT one of those runners in your way, SR, I swear. I stuck to the right!) We usually get away from the family festivities and stay on the strip a couple of nights, and this year, we’re staying at the SR-approved Cosmopolitan. Very excited.

If you roll up to WF in a smart car, I think it’s ok.

Christmas will be in beautiful Hillsboro, Oregon!

Actually after church on Sunday, we went to Whole Foods for the first time. yea. lived in Ny 4ever and never went. Guess we skipped it for MickeyD’s :) Anyhow, i heard how it could be pretty darn expensive. While we were driving there, as my mom made a list of things to buy, i could see my dad sweating like a prizefighter in the ninth round while gripping his wallet. But surprisingly, it was very affordable! My mom loved the stuff, my sis the free samples, and my dad loved the prices. I loved the cute cashier dude, haha. I suppose prices depend on where you live? I guess here in VA its not that bad. Definitely going again soon!

I am in the beautiful state of Colorado, Baby. Can’t beat the morning sunrise, the snow that sparkles on those Rocky Mountains and the general feeling that you are living right. Thank you, Lord, for my blessings.

Tofu is not one of them. Yuck. Whole Foods. Yeah, love/hate relationship. They are pricey. I have found we can get most of what we need elsewhere. It’s just too expensive. Though it does make you sigh with it’s general fabulousness.

At my WF, which happens to be the WF of Prius gettin’ real fame, the salad bar is only $5.99 on Wednesdays so I try to go then. Yes, that is a deal worth planning salad bar nights to me since I generally buy (and eat) three pounds of food. Have fun in Texas — I’ll be here in LA!

There isn’t a WF near me, thankfully (or not thankfully, now that I read that their cheeses are cheaper…).

Christmas weekend will be busy – Saturday we will be going to my dad’s side of the family, then my father-in-law’s side of the family and then to my father-in-law’s house afterward… three stops.

Sunday is another three stops, first my mother-in-law, then my parents, then my aunt’s house to celebrate with my mom’s side of the family.

We’ll be in good ol Yakima, WA for the holidays. My mother in law and her boyfriend are flying in from Miami to join my husband and I, along with my entire red neck family at my parent’s house. I picture it turning out very Christmas Vacation-y. There’s not enough whiskey in the world for situations like this. Lord help me!

I’ll be spending the night at my parents (without him *sadface*) & he’ll be coming over after he gets done with work Christmas day to do dinner there, & when that’s done we’ll go home for *our* Christmas together…
