Jimmy Choos and Running Shoes

by SkinnyRunner on November 10, 2011

Lindsey asked about my shoes….

I’ve seen a lot of different sneakers on SkinnyRunner. Exactly how many pair do you own? Once you run out of your shoes, what do you do with them? Donate, toss?

I’d love to see a picture of your shoe rack, if for no other reason than to show my husband that, yes, there is someone else who owns more shoes that I do.

I don’t think I have that many pairs of shoes, but I guess it’s all subjective.  I used to buy a lot more shoes; now I try to buy quality over quantity.   And given the choice, I’d spend money on shoes over clothes… which explains why I dress like this:

DSCN4606

For the past couple years after I’ve finished commercial fishing for the summer, I go buy a pair of nice shoes congratulating myself for holding down a job and not pushing anyone overboard.

Jaymo encourages it because he doesn’t think I’d last very long in prison and then who would wipe his butt if I was gone?!

The shoes:

I keep a couple other pairs on another shelf as well as my boots and UGGS.

DSCN6344

All my running shoes.  The middle row is my Mizunos; the Nikes in the orange box are just kickaround shoes, and the other two boxes are shoes that I need to test out.

After I put about 475-500 miles on my running shoes, I throw them in the washer and put the original new inserts in since I wear custom ones and then donate them to Goodwill.

DSCN6347

This is a pair I just washed and need to go to Goodwill.

You know how yesterday I mentioned that the Mizuno WaveRider 14’s were a little high on the side of the shoe?

DSCN6349

I took a Victorinox knife and went all Edward Scissorhands on them.  I’m going to go running in a second so we’ll see if they fall a part on me or not.

The non-running shoes:

DSCN6342

The Loubs that I don’t wear enough, shoulda bought wedges instead of heels but still fun.  The Biancas on the right were my fishing present 2 years ago.

DSCN6343

Wedding Choos.  These and the Christian Louboutins are the only expensive shoes that I bought at full price.  Some Jimmy Choos occasionally go on sale, but Louboutins never do.

DSCN6346

Loeffler Randall makes super comfortable boots – love these; both bought on a big time sale.  The boots were my fishing present last year.

DSCN6351

I love Michael Kors shoes although I think that the Kors by MK line is a little higher quality and lasts longer than the Michael by MK line.

The brown wedges in the middle are probably one of my most worn shoes – I bought these at a Off Saks 5th Avenue store in Texas  about 4 years ago for $80.  Best shoe investment I’ve made.

DSCN6345

Another favorite deal: Prada flats for $80.

DSCN4997_thumbDSCN4999_thumb

My “end of fishing season” present to myself this year: Rock ‘n’ Republic and Fendi wedges, both bought on sale from Neiman Marcus.

DSCN6352

Another shoe that I love – Jeffrey Campbell booties that my mom gave me for Christmas last year.  She still maintains that they are the ugliest shoes she’s ever seen.

You can’t see it in the picture, but these are getting pretty beat up: the toes are all scuffed and the heels are ripped too.  Not that great of quality of shoe for less than a year old.

Wanting this pair for Christmas…  Mom, they’re on sale!

And those are the feet candy.

Hilary M. and I have the same first marathon! Awesome.

I’m loving those boots! I definitely don’t have that many shoes, but I think I’m in the minority of women who don’t care that much about shoes. Mostly because I’m poor and can’t afford to care :)

Finally! Someone else who rewards themselves with shoes :) I’m a big fan of Stuart Weitzman’s and I’ve bought three pairs: (1) for undergrad graduation, (2) end of summer internship, and (3) Law School graduation- which will make their debut on May 18, 2012. I also buy shoes for the smallest accomplishments, like not eating an extra cookie and other non-sense. I currently have a piggy bank for two pairs of Loubies for when I: (1)pass the Florida Bar and (2) get married. Enjoy your shoes, they’re gorgeous!!

Oh, I am so in love with all of your shoes! :) I love my Mizuon Wave Rider 12′s, but hate what they’ve done with the line since. ;(

What i love is how organized they are — shelves for shoes! I’d never have thought of it! (Mine are this big mound in the bottom of my closet..but your method looks MUCH better!)
Another thing I never woulda thought of — cutting the shoes! I’m a big Asics fan but when i’ve tried on the 2150′s (which are supposed to be better than the 1150′s i end up with) one shoe kept rubbing my ankle bone as i jogged around the store. I still don’t think i’d BUY a pair if i knew i was gonna hafta cut ‘em but still a good solution for if this happens with a pair already purchased. Thanks for the tip ~ can’t wait to hear how they worked out for ya.

Agreed. I really had to squint hard to imagine any kind of 50, and I still don’t believe it. Assumed she was late 20s/early 30s ’til I read the caption.

I totally agree! Hillary looks awesome! I love the inspiration of running a marathon as a 50th birthday present to myself! (LOVE the shoes and boots, SR!)

I have seven pairs of shoes total. One pair I wear to work every day, one pair of nicer shoes I wear for social functions, one pair of running shoes, one pair of athletic shoes for kicking around, a pair of hiking boots, a pair of horseback riding boots, and a pair of winter boots. Oh, and a pair of slippers. So eight I guess if you count the slippers.

OH you have good taste in shoes! I have 3 different pair of athletic/running shoes, and switch off with ‘em depending on what I am doing.

Love your shoe organization!

I ran Hartford, too (my first)! I have 1 pair of Gucci heels I purchased almost 6 years ago. I think I have worn them 10 times. I’m afraid of scuffing them!

I’m a shoe nut too. Mostly heels although, I’ve started to love wedges and booties more since heels are killing my running knees :)

Just a thought — before you cut up your other two pairs of mizunos, you should try to sell them on your blog. Maybe someone else likes the wave 14s??

I find my Mizuno Wave Alchemy sneakers ride high on the sides too. You’ll have to update on whether or not they disintegrated off your feet…if not, perhaps I’ll try your trick!

Ahh – thank you! And by the way, aren’t those Rock n Republic wedges the ones your mom didn’t like? I remember you wore them recently after that and I think they’re super cute! Thanks again for the shoe post!

Shelves are a good idea for organizing shoes–why didn’t I think of that:P I agree, Hilary looks like she’s in her 20′s or 30′s. Hope I look that good when I’m 50! (Dang, hope I can run a marathon, too!)

Ahhhhhh you might be my long lost shoe twin! I’ve got a fair amount of shoes, and my husband thinks I’m nuts, but I say the only problem I have with shoes is that you can only wear one pair at a time! Check out “Menbur” brand shoes on http://www.endless.com, you won’t be sorry. SO comfortable, and cheap by comparison to Choos and Loubs!

I live in NYC (from OC though) and agree – 16 Handles is the best in the city!

… I am also shoe-obsessed… and Christian Louboutins actually DO go on sale! I was as shocked as you. Not their basic carry-over styles, but the seasonal ones all go on sale at the Christian Louboutin boutiques – check out the one at South Coast Plaza by Nordies at the end of the season, you can get some ‘deals’ aka $400 not $700 ;)
