I don’t care about your feelings

by SkinnyRunner on June 28, 2011

WORKOUT – Ran outside 11.1 miles/1:36   slower, no music, hilly run

Most of the time I go to bed knowing what, when and where I’m going to run in the morning.  So last night I thought I’d do 20 miles early in Newport this morning.

I woke up at 5:45am and did not want to run.  I just didn’t feel like it.   I farted around for a couple hours before giving myself a self-loving kick in the rear; this is how the conversation went:

I don’t care about your feelings right now.  You will feel better afterwards.  Take a tip from Nike and Just Do It – GO RUN!

Geez fine, Hitler, I will.  Once I was out the door I told myself to run for 10 minutes and if I still wasn’t feeling it, I‘d turn around.  That trick always works: 1 mile turned into 11.

And although they weren’t the original 20 I had planned, I still feel better about doing 11 easier miles than sitting on my rear doing 0.

Something else I don’t feel like doing, like, ever?

Paying my taxes.  No matter how many years I pay them, I still hate April 14th.  And I actually pre-pay them 4 times a year so I dislike them 4x as much.

I’m tempted to pull a Wesley Snipes one of these years, but I’m not really in the market for a new roommate… in a 9×9 cell.

What’s something you don’t ever feel like doing but still do anyways?

Jaymo just said “wiping his butt”.  seriously.  I married a winner.

***Hey go check out FRS Energy Drink’s Facebook page to see a picture of me!

****Reader Stephanie, her mom and sister rocked the SR SHIRTS at this past weekend’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle race.  How cute are they?!  I want my mom to run a race with me!

I don’t like eating during the day when it’s hot, but if I don’t eat, I feel nauseated, and then it’s even harder to eat.

thats my trick! when i dont feel like running or working out in general, i say ‘go for xx amount of time’ and if it still sucks you can go home/stop. I always finish.

this helps too and i have it above my head in my cubicle at work:

My daughter and I run every race together :) We also do alll our training runs together. We have so much fun, and it has drawn us so much closer to each other. Tell your mom to “Just Do It”! My daughter and I both love you too, btw.

It’s true. Connie and her daughter are sickenly cute and run every race together. AND they dress alike at EVERY race. You pretty much can’t get cuter than that. Not even bunnies are that cute.

Rarely do I want to drink 70-80 ounces of water a day … but I do it anyway, because I feel like garbage when I’m dehydrated!

CLEANING I HATE TO CLEAN specifically vaccuuming and laundry! Ugh… I find the only days I don’t want to run are days I am hurting. It’s good to push through that though! Glad you got a run in :)

My mom used to always tell me that when I didn’t want to work out! She would always say, “work out for 10 min. If you still don’t feel like, then quit.”

I think it’s only been once or twice that I actually still wanted to stop after 10 min, but by that time I’m already a sweaty mess and figure I need to shower anyway, might as well make it a really gross and sweaty workout.

I never feel like cooking on the weeknights after getting home from work (would eat out every day if it wouldn’t make me fat and poor), but I do it cuz I know it’s the right thing to do. I always feel good that I’ve done it too.

I think Jaymo is right on with the wiping butt sentiment. That’s something I don’t feel like doing, yet I’ve been wiping asses in this house for coming up on 8 years. EVERY DAY. Even though my last little guy is almost out of diapers, the butt wiping will continue for another couple of years after that. That will make 10 years of me wiping someone else’s ass(es). Awesome.

I absolutely HATE waking up at 4:15am daily to run. It’s ridiculous but it’s the only time I have w/2 kids and a FT job. One day when I hit the lotto there will be 7 am weekday runs!

Ugh, changing the sheets on the beds.
Hate it.
Have to do it.

Folding Laundry is also on this list.

Luckily, with running, I am still at the stage where I LOVE it and can’t wait to get my tail outta the door on the days I can run. I don’t need a peptalk for those days yet!

PAYING TAXES MOST DEFINATELY!!!!!! I always get an extension and still put it off till the last minute. YUCK! I just told my husband to get his crap together this morning (feel the love) so we can send ‘em in. As soon as I’m done this year, I’ll start dreadng next years immediately. Booo to the IRS!

Michelle @ Crazy*Running*Legs June 28, 2011 at 1:55 pm

I dread putting my laundry away – I seriously have piles of CLEAN laundry in my laundry room. And I wonder why I can’t ever find anything to wear.

I also did not want to run this morning – and I swear I ALWAYS have the best runs when they start off that way.

Kelly @foodiefresh June 28, 2011 at 1:55 pm

I love that Jay doesn’t care that you write seriously funny things about him. I’m pretty sure my husband would be mortified. :)

I’ll be honest – I hate brushing my teeth. I honestly take a sense of pride when I do it every night.

Reply

Sharon June 29, 2011 at 1:54 am

I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one that struggles with this chore. I thought if I said I hated brushing my teeth everyone would freak. I enjoy the clean teeth feeling, don’t get me wrong, but when you’re fighting to keep your eyelids open in bed and then you think about gettiing out of bed and brushing your teeth for several minutes… I usually just want to go to sleep.

mmmh. I’d say:
• doing dishes
• folding laundry
• putting on sunscreen
• waking up before 9am

I should have Oompa Loompa doing my sh*t for me.

Housework, or more specific mopping the floors, hate it hate it hate it

But alas I must unless prince charming wants to hire me a maid.

p.s. love the glasses you and Pam wore

I really really dislike waking up, once I am up I am good to go, but the act of getting out of bed sucks.

Good thing I run at 5am or I would have 10 seconds to get ready for work.

everywhere, online to golf stores to ross. just keep an eye out for stuff you like. one of my skirts is from runningskirts.com but most are just from random stores.

Laundry. I hate folding it once it’s dry! It’s the worst!!!! I don’t like paying my taxes either. They take about half of my paycheck each week and then want more when April rolls around. I’ll just say someone out there is making a pretty penny off of my teachers salary :)

P.S.
Thanks for the comment. It made my day!

i hate scrubbing the shower – mostly cuz it still looks like ass even when it’s “sparkling” clean. (anyone wanna reno my bathroom?)
i hate changing the cat box.
but i really SUPER HATE dusting….i have mostly wood furniture that not only needs to be dusted but also polished. blah. stupid.
also hate combing my hair after a shower – cuz it hurts and i swear it’s only the highlighted strands that call out during combing.

I hate putting the duvet cover on the duvet. Worst thing to do ever. It takes forever, and no matter how accurately I measure them, I always put it on wrong and have to turn it, and do it again. That, and waking up for work. I like the work part, it’s the waking up part that I’m not such a fan of.

I just read this today on a blog called Success Along the Weigh: Doing something when you’re motivated is easy. It’s slogging through the trenches when it’s hard that shows your commitment. So true, good on ya for getting out there when it is so so easy to jam out :)

i definitely do not enjoy putting laundry away. i love washing it. i love folding it. and if it weren’t for my kids willingness to rifle through a full laundry basket, thus unfolding all the clothes, i’d probably never ever put it away.

Wow, way to force yourself out the door! I’ve been struggling with motivating myself, lately, but I usually crank up Black Sabbath and remind myself that if Ozzy can sing for 10 minutes, I can run at least that long.

Ugh I hate cleaning the toilet! People poop in there! So nasty. But I have to have a clean toilet so I do it and hate every second.

I also hate folding laundry/putting away laundry. I always get mad because the dryer fairy steals my socks and it takes forever to find them and then match them up.

Reply

Jane June 28, 2011 at 6:22 pm

I hate folding laundry. Hate hate hate it! Although tax season, may be worse. At least it only comes once a year or quarter?

Reply

Cindy June 28, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Let’s see…cleaning, running, putting on make-up (too bad I’m mortified to leave the house without it) and then washing all that make-up off my face at night. Hate it, but always feel better when it’s done!

Oh man, there are so many chores I dislike. I almost never get my bed made or the inside of my car cleaned. I dye my own hair and I always slack on that even though it only takes about 15-20 minutes total. I’ve been doing a lot of cross training at the gym recently because of a stress fracture and it’s been no fun at all. Very hard to get motivated but I tell myself to go and do a few miles – I figure even if I don’t get in the mileage I want something is better than nothing.

Reply

Sarah June 29, 2011 at 3:36 am

Tell me about it! I feel that way a lot of the time. It really takes some convincing to get me out of the door but I usually JUST DO IT! I get way crabs about paying my taxes too but we are always celebrating tax day because it is my husbands birthday ! LOL
