SR’s soup kitchen

WORKOUT – Strength train 15 mins

Walk the dog – 2.3 miles

Ran outside –  9.0 miles/1:16    easy, flat, slow run

Just like HTP’s post today, I hate lifting weights – so boring.  I’d rather read about Shanna Moakler’s in home zoo.

But I figure I can try to commit to 15 minutes since I easily commit to 72 hours a day online.  So I hit the start button on the stopwatch and do whatever random moves I can think of for 15 minutes without stopping or any breaks; for only a quarter hour, it turned into a quick sweatfest.

While I was gone, I received a package with a few things from the  Olde Westport Spice and Trading Co.

Olde Westport is a 30 year old, family owned company in Kansas City that specializes in custom-blended spices and dried soup mixes.  They even have a recipe blog.

I decided to make the Southwestern Corn Tortilla Soup because:

A. It is really easy to make

B. JayBobby LOVES chicken tortilla soup

C. It’s easy to make

Per the directions I added a can of diced tomatoes and water and brought it to a boil.  Then I grilled up some chicken and threw it in too.  Simmer for 15 and bam, you’re a gourmet professional.  Make some cornbread muffins to go with it and suddenly Mario Batalli’s starting to sweat profusely.

JJ’s picky about his tortilla soup; I’ve made it before from online recipes and he hasn’t been crazy about it.  He likes it chunkier with a lot of chicken so I put in a little less water and used the whole package of chicken.

He loved it.  He loved it more than Kim K loves diamonds.  He ate 3 bowls… while talking on the phone to his boss.  So much for a romantic dinner…  Doesn’t really matter anyways since this is our view of each other at the table:

This mix was so easy and had such a great spicy flavor that I went and bought 4 bags online after dinner.  Full price, no blogging discounts, no freebies.  The mix is $7 and makes a big batch.  Even with Jaymo’s endless bowl, we still had leftovers.

You can check out their whole line of products here.

That soup sounds good. Do you think it’d still be delicious without chicken (since I’m a veg) or with tofu?

You’ve got to try World Markets soups. They are similar… add water and a couple other things. They are super good.

That is an ENORMOUS vase!

Chicken tortilla soup is so good, but I always worry that if I try and make it at home I’ll fail miserably.

Yum!! Sounds great! Just remember that strength training increases your basal metabolic rate = more spice drops :)

So what I got from this is that you could put a picture of whoever you want on that vase and have a romantical date with a celeb? That sounds like a good deal! Sign me up!

That soup sounds great! I was just thinking today about how I’d like to learn how to make homemade soup (not out of a jar) and then your email came through, amazing! I’m definitely going to check out that website. Do you know if any local grocery stores carry it? Whole Foods maybe?

BTW. . . welcome back to SoCal and sunshine!!

Ohh chicken tortilla soup. I love it! I’ve always made it from scratch, but I bet that mix would be awesome! Guess I’m gonna have to search all of Alaska for it. :)
