WORKOUT – Ran in Seward 10.25 miles/1:21

We finished our first trip and got into Seward, Alaska, this morning to unload our fish and I went running.

DSCN3527

I forgot my running capris at home so I’ve been wearing my Zensah compression tights – LOVE these.  Would it be weird if I wanted a full body suit?  Because I do.

Some pictures from our trip:

The weather picked up one night so we anchored in a small Native village, I think it was Yakutat maybe?  My dad got off the boat and walked around and took a few pictures of the “town”.

DSCN3490

There was 2 stores in town and this was one of them.

DSCN3491

YTT Road.

DSCN3492

Bald eagles, Alaska’s state bird.  When we were kids, my brothers and I never understood why people (tourists) got all geeked up over eagles since we saw them all the time.

DSCN3493

Once the weather passed, the pleasure cruise was over and we got down to business and started fishing.

DSCN3496

Cutting up bait.

DSCN3514

All 6 of us baiting our gear.

DSCN3516

I don’t know why I’m all crankypants McGee here.

DSCN3517

Dressing the halibut.  We dress them, ice them and then deliver them to the canneries where they’re immediately trucked down to Seattle.

DSCN3518

DSCN3519

While fishing, we caught a huge shark which got all tangled up in our gear.

DSCN3522

And now we’re unloading our fish and then we’ll leave again as soon as it’s done, but I’ve got another post coming up about what we do for fun on the boat… you’d be surprised…

So glad to get an update! And I am mucho impressed with you for running when you get to land – I would most likely sleep and eat and then gain a bunch of weight.

I was in Prince Rupert this past weekend and got out for a nice damp run in the coastal ocean air… and kept an eye on the harbor in case your boats showed up! I wasn’t quite in Alaska… but it was close!

Love getting an SR update! Those fish are huge – how much do they weigh, on average? Another dumb question (sorry): do you ever get scared on the boat because of the weather?

Reply

SkinnyRunner May 26, 2011 at 6:15 pm

yes i occasionally get nervous when its bad weather but no one else does. im just a wimp.
the larger fish can weigh 50-100 lbs or more (paid weight) and the smallest fish that we can legally keep is 32 inches long and about 11 lbs.

Do you have to bonk them on the head like Sarah & Bristol did when they went halibut “fishing?”

Yup…definitely one who takes a million pics when you DO see a bald eagle…or at least my husband is. He became the paparazzi in like 2 minutes flat

YTT Road is like that town (or maybe its a road too) in between Vegas and heading to Cali called XXYZT or something weird like that!

Growing up in the sticks, I lived right next to the Alleghney River and saw bald eagles ALL the time. I never understood all of the excitement either.

When we first started dating Joe saw one while he was working and was so damn excited. I felt bad that I couldn’t get as stoked as he was. Glad it’s not just me! :-)

I have a great challenge for you guys! Although I don’t know how feasible it is with you guys in the middle of the ocean. Anyways, the challenge is to eat 50 chicken nuggets in 50 minutes. You can have any drink and sauce of your choice. I realize this seems easy…but only 1 out of my 3 guy friends who tried it finished. It’s quite hilarious.
